Return of the GOUT - Preservation & Restoration (Released)
Time

Sorry to necro, but I cam across this thread when I gave another crack to effectively transcode my NTSC GOUT to H264/H265.

Would someone please explain the purpose of the -6 hue tweak? It adds a definite green tinge to exterior Tatooine scenes. It doesn’t look good when compared to the source, and I think it looks better without that shift. It does seem to help keep the grays in Empire more neutral, but I am wondering if I should drop the shift from there as well for consistencies sake. I note the scripts seem to target PAL sources. Was there just some funny business with the color space of the PAL release? That would explain my problems.

Also, is there strong reason to have the script do the resizing? The doubling of height is needed for the better, slower antialiasing filters, but I see no filtering along the scan lines, only across. Wouldn’t it be better to recalculate the anamorphic ratios instead of messing with the storage width? A crop to 540 height yields frames that are perfectly sized for 720p letterboxing to apply subs to!
