Super Star Wars games and "Who shot first?" poll on Wii
Time

Super Empire Strikes Back is now on the VC.

There's another new poll on the Everybody Votes Channel. "Have you ever tried to use the Force like Luke?"

The results of the other two polls are in.

Who shot first, Han or Greedo - Han wins!

How do you watch the saga; 1-6 or 4-6, 1-3 - of course, 1-6 wins.... but if you watched the saga that way, you'd be bored half to death before finishing ep 1.

I was watching Back to the Future...
Time

Robert Zemeckis, you really hit the nail on the head this time!

I was watching Back to the Future Part I, with the second commentary, basically a Q&A session with Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis overlayed on to the movie (with no relation to what's happening on screen) and towards the end, Rob says, on the topic of changing things for the DVD:

"I hate that. I don't think you should ever do that. That's like colorizing a black and white movie. It is what it is. I don't get this adding scenes back in, and recutting the movie. I don't get that at all. It should be the way it was at that moment in time. That is the way it was supposed to be."

Somebody tell George!

And during the commentary with Bob Gale for Part II, he mentions that the picture of Buford included in the movie of Biff's life at the Biff Tannen Museum (this is in the alternate 1985 where Biff is a rich bastard) doesn't match the look of Buford seen in Part III. This is because they hadn't figured out what Buford would like when filming Part II. But Bob then goes on to say that he could change it and make the two versions of Buford match, but he says that he doesn't believe in doing that.

I just thought it would be interesting to share here.

And I've been re-watching the BTTF trilogy, since I just got back my replacement discs of Parts II and III, since the original discs weren't framed correctly. They wouldn't show visual gags like the auto-fitting jacket seen in 2015 in Part II.

I will keep my Super NES and super star wars trilogy games.

At least the supernes was not shovelware and worthy of the nintendo name.

Wii i don't own that gimmicky piece of hardware that does not do HD games, have a real controller etc.

Its really a shame because i owned both the n64 and cube and both had few good games.

i'm probably the only person who thinks the gamecube twilight princess is better because you don't have to fiddle with a nonsensical remote control that runs on batteries or the sensor being all screwry and wanting to smash something.

I do like the wii and the wii mote but there are some things i wish nintendo had tested better, worked on before putting the system out.  NO Hi RES rendered graphics or upgrade to HD down the line is a joke.  Nintendo used to be on top of the gaming world, not always in terms of graphics and technology but in terms of gameplay.  Gameplay and sales i would say they still have in spades, but the 360 and PS3 are far better in terms of technology.  Even the 360 is stuck in the past with being limited to dvd, only sony ps3 is future proof at least as long as blu ray lasts.

Actually, the Wiimote was tested plenty. It was actually planned as a GameCube accessory. Just because some developers make gimmicky games with gimmicky controls, doesn't make the Wiimote itself gimmicky. It adds a lot in my opinion to games like Twilight Princess (can't wait for the exclusive Zelda Wii which will take better advantage of the Wii controls) and Wii Sports Resort is simply amazing with the new MotionPlus.

I don't understand this HD argument. I'm satisfied with the graphics of the Wii. It's hooked up to a HDTV through composite, so it could be better. But it's fine the way it is right now. Therotically, the Wii is capable of HD output. Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 could output in 1080i. Though, somehow, the Wii is being pushed to its limits by games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I don't know why. It looks simple enough. It's definitely not as detailed or as fast-paced as SSBB. Not only that, but SSBB goes online - NSMBW does not.

I wonder if the secret cave on Tatooine is still in the game? ;)

Probably. They don't really change the games at all when they put them on Virtual Console. They don't update the graphics or add online or anything. But there are some games that are slightly different from their originals. For example, Wave Race 64 used to have the Kawasaki logo plastered everywhere. On the Wii VC version, they're Wii and DS logos.

How did the question become "Who shot first?"  If I recall, Greedo didn't shoot second- he didn't shoot at all!

Oh, and how much do the Super SW games cost?  I started playing one on a emulator a while back and was surprised and put off at how hard they were.

800 Nintendo Points each. That equates to $8 for one game. I think you have to buy 1000 points at a time, which would be $10. You'd need 3000, or $30 worth of points to get all 3 games. Go crazy with the extra 600 points you have left over.

And the poll asking which way to watch the saga is up. Either "I, II, III, IV, V, VI" or "IV, V, Vi, I, II, III". I voted for the latter.

Super Star Wars games and "Who shot first?" poll on Wii
Time

I don't know if this is of much interest on this forum, but any Wii owners can download Super Star Wars, Super Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi from the Wii Virtual Console. (The ESB and ROTJ games might not be up yet.)

Also, there's a poll on the "Everybody Votes Channel" asking who shot first - Han or Greedo. Naturally, I voted Han. I'm really interested to see how the results come out. There's going to be another poll about which is the proper way to watch the saga. I'm guessing it'll be between starting with the PT or starting with OT.

And finally, there's going to be contest in the future on the Check Mii Out Channel to see who can design the best Star Wars characters in Mii form. Quite a challenge, considering Nintendo hasn't bothered to update the Mii system with new hairstyles, clothes or anything... but I've seen plenty of good Darth Vaders on the Check Mii Out Channel...

Forget about the ridiculous and unnecessary changes...
Time

The one thing about the 2004 DVDs that's starting to bug me are the commentaries. I sometimes enjoy listening to the commentaries of movies I enjoy (and I usually do other things while the commentary is running, which is what I'm doing now actually. As I'm typing, Irvin Kershner is going on about ESB.) The commentaries are interesting for the most part, but it'd be much better if I don't know... all the commentators were actually together when their ramblings were recorded. It's blatantly obvious that these people aren't watching the movies together. On multiple occasions they address other commentators by their full name ("George Lucas this, George Lucas that.")

It's really disappointing. However, I'm surprised I even put one of the 2004 DVDs in my player.  (I think some of Carrie's dialogue makes up for the fact that George pretty much destroyed 50% of his films.)

Just ridiculous.  I should make a video on that...

Yeah you should!

I was hoping you'd come around, just so I could ask you this question:  if I were to make a video, what content could I include?  I pretty much just summed that up in about 30 seconds.  Could anyone help me expand that idea?

Well it's my opinion that making a video solely about 3PO's anatomy would be pretty boring. Maybe you could make a longer, more informative video which includes other continuity errors in the Star Wars saga. It'd make the video much more interesting I think.

Just my two cents.

The last 3D show I went to was the Terminator 3D thing in Universal Studios, and that was shortly after it first opened, and I didn't get a head ache from that. Don't know if this newer stuff is any different.

If the movie looked normal without the glasses on so that you could take the glasses off when you got tired of them and enjoy the movie in 2D on the big screen, then I wouldn't hesitate to drop a ticket price on it.

First, I went to that Terminator 3D show years ago! Thanks for reminding me. I think I sat in the back, and unfortunately I can't remember more than that. :(

Second, if you take the 3D glasses off, doesn't it make everything blue and red?

On a scale of 1-10, how convincing was Hayden as Anakin/Darth Vader?
Time

I don't like how quickly Anakin turned from a nice little boy to a troubled teenager who developed a huge ego and didn't believe in his master and finally to a full-fledged Sith lord who killed young Jedi kids and their masters for no reason. It's so stupid. Darth Vader is an awesome villain. However, PT Annie sucks.

I thought this might be slightly assuming: I'm watching Clone Wars: Decoded on Cartoon Network. Anakin made a hypocritical decision and this little tidbit popped up - "Anakin often makes risky choices, even if they put lives in danger." That pretty much sums PT Annie up pretty well, huh?

So... a 1. Only because TPM Annie is somewhat tolerable. Such a smart little boy! But looking back, the TPM and AOTC/ROTS Annies seem like completely different characters. I know there's a huge time gap between I and II, but still... wow...

As for Twilight Princess being a ripoff of another werewolf game (I don't know what the other game is, Bloodmoon maybe?), lycanthropy has been around a lot longer than video games. Ripoff or not, I think the use of that concept is fair game.

My guess was Okami. But they were released within months of each other and probably were developed at the same time. Both amazing... and you can play both of them on the Wii!

I hate that I can't get to the arcade channel due to having a hacked Wii.

The new arcade Virtual Console games? If you have a hacked Wii, can't you just install an emulator into the Homebrew Channel?

Yeah but I wouldn't mind seeing it. Or maybe buying a game to make up for all the pirating I do.

I think you would have to reformat your Wii, which you probably don't want to do since you all that stuff on there already. I'm not into the whole Wii hacking scene, so I don't know if re-formatting would even work.

Though in Windwaker Link gets that stupid green GameBoy Advanced called a Tingle Locator (why does that sound somewhat dirty?) or something like that.

Tingle Tuner? Something like that... I've never played Wind Waker beyond the 20-minute demo I have on my Collector's Edition disc. Though Tingle has always creeped me out. Some 40-something year old who wants a fairy? And so he dresses up like Link? If that's not creepy, then I don't know what is.

You know, speaking of not playing as Link, there was thread over on the Zelda Universe forum about something called "Project Deluge". Basically Hyrule is flooding and you play as a some psychotic character who thinks he's Link. Check it out: http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/future-zelda/81252-official-valley-of-the-flood-deluge-thread.html. It was just a rumor, and was supposed to come out later this year... exactly when Spirit Tracks comes out... Too bad, since it was a pretty cool idea. They (meaning Nintendo), should turn Project Deluge into the next console Zelda game for the Wii. Most don't consider Twilight Princess a Wii game, since it was a GameCube game ported over to the Wii with motion controls tacked on... the controls were fine, but since it was never intended to be a Wii game...

Oh, and the reason for Zelda sleeping in Zelda II? Explained in the instruction manual:

"Shortly after the events of The Legend of Zelda, Link notices a strange mark on the back of his left hand, exactly like the crest of Hyrule. He seeks out Impa, who responds by taking Link to the North Castle, where a door has been magically sealed for generations. Impa places the back of Link's left hand on the door, and it opens, revealing a sleeping maiden. Impa tells Link that the maiden is Zelda, the princess of Hyrule from long ago, and the origin of the "Legend of Zelda." Zelda's brother had tried to force her into telling their recently deceased father's secrets concerning the last of three sacred golden triangle treasures of his kingdom, known collectively as the Triforce. Princess Zelda refused to reveal its location, and the prince's wizard friend, in anger, tried to strike her down with a spell. Zelda fell under a powerful sleeping spell, but it also resulted in the wizard's own death. The prince, unable to reverse the spell, had his sister placed in the castle tower, in the hope that she would one day be awakened. He decreed that females born to the royal family from that point on would be named Zelda, in remembrance of this tragedy."

I think Carrie said it best:

Not to mention you had the unmitigated gall to let that chick – the new girl, who plays my mother, Queen Armadillo, or whatever her name is? – she wears a new hairstyle and outfit practically every time she walks through a door! I mean, I bet she even got to wear a bra, even though you told me I couldn't, "because there was no underwear in space!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZ97s396kb0

Yes, I was digging around in the old threads... so sue me... no, don't sue me.

Yeah, I was thinking that too.  The phone didn't bother me because, once again, it was a dream, and I have a plenty high suspension of disbelief.  But then, yeah, I began to get a little suspicious with Majora's Mask where new technology started popping up all over the place.  It was such a great game that I forgave it, but I had my eye on the series now.  What with the pictograph box and the neon in the Great Bay Temple, I was getting worried.  And it's been all downhill from there (in terms of anachronisms), culminating in this sad little thing.

I don't see how it being a dream in Link's Awakening makes up for having telephones. I mean, I would assume Link knows what a telephone is before he can dream it up.

And I don't mind the train, I actually think it's a pretty neat idea. It's just a replacement for the steam boat in Phantom Hourglass. Link does look weird in hs conductor uniform, but I'll get used to it. I think it's highly original. I still have Phantom Hourglass, so I should finish that first... but I'm also wondering if I should get Rhythm Heaven. I'm going to NYC where the Nintendo World Store is and was planning on getting Pokemon Platinum (let's have another debate on that!) and a DSi (that too?) I played the demo of Rhythm Heaven today and it was neat. Better than I expected. It's incredibly unique.

A Long Time Ago... - Share Your Star Wars Story
Time

Most of my memories are pretty stupid...

I vaguely remember watching The Phantom Menace with my biological dad (long story short: my mom and dad divorced, so I visited my dad on Saturdays... I think. Its been so long.) I only remember watching the pod race, but the scene where Jar-Jar is saved by Qui-Jon (after almost being crushed by the huge droid transport... so close!) is still fresh in my mind. I don't remember what I thought of the movie, but I must've enjoyed it a little bit. Definitely less now than then.

I went to the Star Wars science exhibit at the Boston Museum of Science (that's in Massachusetts). I remember "riding" the Millenium Falcon and jumping into hyperspace. Pretty neat. I got a nice little pin that said something like "I rode the Millenium Falcon!" or "I survived hyperspace!" I can't remember exactly and I can't find it either. There was also a large area with all kinds of things in it. I remember waiting for it to open and years later I realized the door was exactly like the door to Jabba's Palace. Inside I think there was a R2-D2 building station using the computer but by then it was time to leave and I don't even think it was fully operational. There were some documentaries that basically connected Star Wars to real science... there was a part of the exhibit where you could learn about real fake limbs like those of Luke and Anakin. A replica of Luke's speeder, a little tiny seat that simulated floating (pretty uneventful), I remember a staff member mentioning that George Lucas was at the exhibit opening, and then there was a history of either our galaxy or the Earth, narrated by Yoda... actually no, it was probably a real person... but whatever.

I have some trading cards and a single action figure (Emperor Palpatine I believe). I never cared for them, because I was never into trading card games. Besides, the Star Wars ones had the dumbest names - "TIE Fighter DS-55-2", "Return to Spaceport", even "Greedo's Marksmanship"!)

I have one Star Wars game, Rogue Squadron II for the GameCube. I never finished it, though I used cheat codes to access other levels and the documentary. I think the only mission I beat was the first one... Battle of Yavin! I used to have Revenge of the Sith for the Nintendo DS, but I later sold it. It was basically a port of the GBA with 3D flight levels.

No idea when I first saw the original trilogy, though I'm positive I never saw them in theaters (I was 3 in 1997, so I doubt it.) I do remember trying to rent a VHS boxset of the OT. My dad (my once-step dad, now my adoptive father) said no since I already had the DVDs. I think it was this set I wanted: http://i20.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/14/03/b64d_1.JPG

I did see Revenge of the Sith in the theaters, but the only memorable parts for me were: Luke's aunt and uncle (Owen and Beru?) holding baby Luke and looking at the dual sunset, Anakin being burned, then Darth Vader rising from his operation table thing, and the Death Star being built.

Finally, I remember putting in Empire of Dreams and telling my friend that the easiet way to fall asleep was to watch it.
