ROTJ is worse than I remember.
Time
It seems on the first run through, ROTJ is everyone's favorite. The suspense of the multiple storylines is just so darn exciting. ROTJ is the only one that I can actually remember the first time I saw it, and it blew me away. But I agree the thrill isn't as timeless as what makes ANH and ESB good.

That's awfully sad if it ever gets so old that it's not enjoyable anymore. I hope that doesn't happen to me...

ANH is my favorite. The acting and writing is worse, but as a whole it is so well put together. But next time I watch them I'll re-analyze them and have a new favorite. That's the way it goes.

if you can manage, try to go two or three years without watching them. It really breathes new life into the trilogy for you.

Jane Fonda obstructed US weaponry in Vietnam preventing soldiers from firing on the enemy... but you're right. I think she got away with it with the distinction between preventing harm from the enemy and actively aiding the enemy or something.

I went on Google and about 30 people have been tried for treason. It said that no one had ever been executed by the federal courts for Treason, though, and I know the Rosenbergs were executed. Were they tried at a state court? My US history got all fuzzy when I graduated.

LOTR
Time
The Hobbit was written as a children's book. Back when people had more faith in the intelligence of children. As opposed to now when everything is dumbed down...

I agree with the Ent comments. Moreover, Jackson made the Ents downright hasty. He sees the tree stumps (which he somehow didn't know about, even though the trees all talk to each other throughout the forest) and immediately gets all hot, and suddenly there's all these Ents right there with him and all of them immediately are called to action...

The march of the Ents is one of my favorite passages from the books, so to leave it out as well as completely subverting the nature of the Ents was a huge disappointment to me. The storming itself was great, though

I consider myself a Tolkien scholar, having read biographies, literary criticisms, Tolkien's drafts, and so forth so I take the books pretty seriously. Of course I had lots of minor beefs with the movies. But there were very few that actually made me like the movies less. The betrayal of Fangorn's and Faramir's characters were two of those. I'm glad that the EE made Two Towers bearable for me (I loved FOTR and ROTK, though).

The Incredibles
Time
Regardless of my comments above, I also was let down by the short at the beginning. It WAS intriguing and interesting to see, but not at all what I had come to see. I'm glad I saw it and for some reason I keep thinking about it, how that idea must have evolved and come to fruition and been developed and all that, simply because it was so unlike the movie or any other animated short.

Something about the flamboyancy of the whole thing and slightly off balance nature of the characters. Basically intrigued how it was pulled off at all. I think it would get better every time. To a point.

Anyway, I'm learning a lesson right now about not to continue typing until you really figure out what you're going to say. maybe you'll never get there. ...

Certainly didn't do anything for "wing commander".

I did see it and, while I hate to phrase it this way, it was incredible. It had the humor and polish that Pixar does so well. The villain was like a 50's James Bond baddie with an Island Hideout and technilogical gadgets and stupid patrolling guards and everything. I saw it Saturday and wanted to go again that evening.

But I didn't, because movies are pricey these days.

Also, the short animation at the beginning was quite something. While not as funny as their other short films, it was intellectually intriguing as an experiment in style and stuff. Pretty cool.

Anyway, I recommend this movie for everyone. Rated E.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

FFX is the best game I've ever played. I don't mind telling you all, I was bawling for about 45 minutes after I beat it. But then, I'm an old softy. Whatever.

As for Link to the Past, I am THE ONLY PERSON who hated it. I have never met a single other person, but I beat it once and hated it and so later tried again and quit after I got to the dark world. I don't know what it is, but I just really do not enjoy it. I'm the only one.

Zelda 2 is one of my favorites. There's some strategies for the harder parts, but it's hard to figure them out. In the end I beat it with an emulator (save states and all) and it was worth it.

HIGHLY recommend finishing FFX. Especially if you're a softy.

The Liberal Elitists

I know that is a popular view held by the democratic party. Michael Moore certainly believes that the republican party wins by deceiving the populous, and his books and films are, on the surface, an effort to point out the deception and educate America.

Basically the premise is, the Republican Party is made up of powerful people wanting to stay in power and those who have been deceived by them, while the democratic party is made up of those who have seen through the lie and aren't interested in exploiting other people.

Of course there are "good old boys" in the GOP who fall into that category, and of course there is propaganda that blusters people into agreeing with them. But as I see it the dems also have their fair share of blustering and propaganda...like Michael Moore.

There are many people who vote both ways for the wrong reasons, but a lot of worth in both perspectives as well. University students tend to be democratic, so does that mean more intelligent people are democratic? Or do you look at the fact that the republican party is made up of older people, so those with more wisdom and experience are republican? Does being in a university make you more intelligent, or being older make you wiser? To say either party is based on a lie, I think, is a big mistake. It leads people to be completely baffled when "the lie" wins, and cripples them to change things in the future. Instead, if you are a hard core democrat, try to figure out why there is worth in the republican position and address it from there. I swear there is worth in there.

Thank you StarTrooper. It's good to be on the off topic boards.

I'm still recovering from getting killed last week, so I'll try to behave for the Bros.

But in the way of warning, I AM deadly with the butter knife. It's only fair to know that before you come to bust my kneecaps

Halo 2
Time
Halo was kind of designed around the limited motion allowed by joysticks...reports were that when it was released on PC it was too easy. The mouse allows for faster targeting and quicker turns, so people just blew through it (the difficulty being set for slower movement). Just a question; of those of you who weren't impressed by Halo, how many played it on the xbox?

I fell to the Dark Side but Redeemed Myself (2004 OT DVD)
Time
In regards to the Bonus Disc, I got one for 5 dollars on ebay. There's a pretty steady stream there.

In regards to Battlefront, I heard the same thing that the AI is incredibly stupid and makes the one player game monotonous. On top of that, you switch sides halfway through the one player campaigns, so that you follow the storyline... doesn't bode well for it.

However, the multiplayer is supposed to be great. On one xbox you can only play four people, and the AI is still (surprise) incredibly stupid, so you really need xbox live or an in house network, but if you can get 8 to 16 people, the game rocks.

I don't have 8-16 people...

Bottom line is that this title was too ambitious for the hardware, which can't support battles on this scale. Hopefully there will be a sequel on the next generation consoles that will do the concept justice. So rent this one before you invest.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last time the same party controlled everything the way it does now, we had Carter--a democrat--in the white house.
And we all know how that turned out.

What? He won a nobel prize, is that what you mean?
