"Lucasfilm currently has no plans to release the original versions of Star Wars"
Time

I’ve never seen Strange Magic, but it does seem weird that it got zero support from Disney. Also as Silverwook mentioned, it’s inconceivable to me that a movie, especially a CGI animated movie, would not get released on blu ray in this day and age.

It does make me wonder, though, since George is such a great businessman… when he sold Lucasfilm, why didn’t he negotiate to make sure Strange Magic was supported?

Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread *
Time

I was planning on not watching any trailers like I did for TFA, but curiosity got the better of me.

Visually very impressive. It’s great to see all the classic OT ships, stormtroopers, Yavin, etc. The sound of that alarm is pretty cool.

I love the idea of a Star Wars movie about the “regular joes” of the Rebellion, ie, NO JEDI.

Neutral on the lead actress, but it’s hard to tell with such a small sample size in the trailer. Her delivery of “It’s a rebellion, I rebel” is just ‘meh’ to me.

Not totally crazy about there being sophisticated martial arts in the SW universe, but it could be cool.

My one hope is that there are NO LIGHTSABERS, AND NO JEDI in the movie. My one exception would be if Vader briefly appeared, and just simply annihilated rebels with zero effort. It could be cool if he stalked them throughout the movie. Even better if he had no lines.

VERY VERY minor nitpick: “aggravated assault.” Takes me out a little bit because it immediately makes me think of the US judicial system; SW should be familiar to us, but this feels just a little too specific to earth.

What don't you like about TESB?
Time

This is incredibly minor, but always slightly bugs me:

Han’s desire to leave the Rebellion to settle things with Jabba doesn’t really make much sense when you think about it.

“If I don’t pay off Jabba the Hutt I’m a dead man.”
“A death mark’s not an easy thing to live with.”

Well… you already have a death mark as a member of the Rebel Alliance. You helped blow up the Death Star and nearly killed Darth Vader. The entire Galactic Empire wants you dead. Yeah, you ran into a bounty hunter on Ord Mantell, but is that really any different from running into a group of stormtroopers or TIE fighters trying to kill you?

You have a pretty good chance of dying in combat regardless of whether there are bounty hunters out to get you. But at least you’re with a group of Rebels, so there’s safety in numbers, and your home is a secret base.

What didn't you like about TFA? SPOILERS
Time

I can’t find the original quotes/articles about it, but I seem to remember during production that JJ (or one of the producers) made a big deal about how much they were going to use practical effects.

Now, I am pleased by the number of practical effects, explosions, creatures, and sets that were in TFA. They looked great, and it was certainly leaps and bounds above the PT.

Having said that, I can’t help but be somewhat disappointed by the amount of CGI used. I get it, TFA is a 2015 sci-fantasy movie, so of course CGI is going to be used extensively. But ideally CGI is used to augment effects/sets.

Considering the (perhaps media- and fan-overblown) hype about the use of practical effects, isn’t it surprising and disappointing that:

 • two very important characters are entirely CGI? (Maz and Snoke)
 • from what I’ve seen in making-of videos, all the ships and ship battles were entirely CGI?
 • CGI monsters (the rathtars) are so prominently featured in the foreground of scenes and have to interact with human characters to such an extent?

Again, I like TFA’s practical effects, but considering the hype surrounding them, I expected far less noticeable CGI.

This is a Star Wars nobody’s really ever seen, ready for 4K… ready for a limited theatrical release if they wanted to do it. It’s a strong pitch just on its merits, but that’s by no means a slam dunk.

Holy shit. No matter what happens, thank you so much for all you’ve done. I’m sure you’ll knock the pitch out of the park. And win or lose, I’m sure we’d all like to see that pitch some day!

I never noticed that about Luke’s x wing sounds, I will have to listen for that next time.

I know what you mean about r2’s sounds in rotj. Noticed that for myself for the first time a couple months ago. It’s pretty annoying actually. I think they took it too far and made it a little over the top. I preferred it when his sounds were simpler.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I just heard from the guy working on it for me after a not having heard from him for a while and he says it’s almost done but can’t guarantee it will be out for x-mas.

Blu-ray update, since it came up:

While I tried real damn hard to get a Blu-ray ready in time for Christmas, it looks like that’s not gonna pan out (I underestimated just how long it would take to get all the menus set up; since it all has to be done from scratch in Photoshop that means having to make all 3 states for every single button (normal, selected, activated), including all 48 chapter point buttons (I used all the same chapters from the 2004 DVD release apart from the two scenes that don’t exist in this version. Some may say that’s too many chapters, I say too bad because I did it anyway))

Because I intended this to be a Christmas gift, I’ve been working on an English-only version first. Since I STILL intend for these to be gifts (I’ll just have to mail them), I’ll be finishing that up first, and then focusing on the full/international version after that, since that’ll take some tinkering to get as many audio/subtitle tracks to fit as it’ll let me.

I’ll be getting back home late at night on the 26th and will resume Blu-ray work the next morning. I don’t want to say that I’d GUARANTEE that the English-only version will be up on the Spleen by the end of the month but I’m pretty confident in it.

Just curious, any updates on this?
