Hi all.
I’m Chris. Like virtually everyone here I’m interested in watching fan-edits (or de-specialised versions) of films that might’ve been compromised in one way or another. They might’ve been tinkered with by a studio who didn’t like the writer or director’s vision; they might’ve been upscaled with terrible AI that makes everything look like a Eldrich nightmare; they might’ve been “George Lucas’ed”.
The people here are great at keeping the OG versions of films alive - while bringing them into the modern age of hi-def; and at building the kind of edits that fans have always wanted to see (or doing the best to help us un-see things we wish we’d never seen!).
Examples of the the sorts of things I’ve previously enjoyed:
- The Spicediver edit of Dune
- The Tolkien edit of the 3 Hobbit movies (still has probs, but loads better than the OG trilogy of Hobbit films)
- The upscaled and “despecialised” versions of the OG Star Wars Trilogy
- The Legion edit of Exorcist III
- …and for fun, the “Backstroke of the West” re-dub of Revenge of the Sith (the only version of this film I watch)
What I’m currently particularly interested in is the upscaling of the extended versions of LoTR - without some of the drawbacks of official releasing (eg changed colours, etc). That’s how I found this forum.
Anyway - keep up the good work!
