There WILL be a v2 using the French release, and though it's not a perfect release at all, there will be a pretty big increase in quality over my previous version.

Hmm, they put a new release date on some of those DVDs, but I doubt they changed anything, the covers look exactly the same as ever...
Did you order the Taiwan editions because you wanted NTSC versions?
Assuming they are the same as before, the Taiwan Uproar In Heaven DVD is absolutely horrible... It's basically the Chinese DVD converted to NTSC very badly, with the wrong aspect ratio to boot.. Quite frankly it's unwatchable..
Some Taiwan DVDs are completely different transfers though.

I actually bought all the "chinese animation" DVD (volumes 1 to 7, only the 4 is missing) just to have them in my collection. I am not looking exactly for a NTSC version, it's more about the english subtitles. All of them are subtitled. I didn't get my order yet but if you are interested I can send you some screens ?

But after reading this thread and discovered the bad transfer and the bad subtitles, I ordered as well the french DVD of Uproar in Heaven. Apparently the french dubber of the Monkey King is quiet good.

A bit of news...

Da Nao Tian Gong/Uproar In Heaven:
I recently learned that there is a French DVD of Da Nao Tian Gong (Le Roi Des Singes). I just received a copy today. It appears to be an almost-complete transfer of the French theatrical version. Almost, because although no major chunks appear to be missing like in the 40th ed., little chunks (like a half a second to a second) seems to be missing in many places.

It looks to be the best transfer of the theatrical version so far though, somewhat better than the Chinese bootleg source, but due to the chunks of frames missing it is still incomplete, and not a true representation of the theatrical version (and the DVD is French only)... sigh... This movie seem to be cursed or something.

I think this French DVD was released in the last quarter of 2008. It's really too bad I didn't have this version or even knew about it back when I was working on the restoration. :( I guess no French Monkey King fans visits the forum..

So it would be nice to do a v2 with the new material, but to be honest I'm not really itching to do much of that work again. In all likelyhood I'll get around to it but I can't really say when. Also the frames missing could make it even more time-consuming, since this is/was a frame-accurate restoration, as far as that is even possible.

I am so sorry to be interested in chinese animation so late. Because I am french and I discover recently that there was a full integral version of Uproar in Heaven (but only in french effectively). So if I was aware about it 2 -3 years ago, I could let you know T_T

I discover that  on this thread. The webmaster of this french website is very aware about all kind of animation.

Anyway you did an incredible work to remaster by your own this beautiful movie.

Maybe you will do a v2 from the french DVD one day. But as you said before it seems this french version missed few frames sometimes. But will be there a big difference of quality between your fan restoration (from french VHS in part) and a complete v2 from the french DVD ?

Otherwise I ordered recently all these chinese animation DVD from YESASIA (apprently they did new versions released in 2009). I am not sure about the video quality. I will see when I get my order. But the taiwanese version of Uproar in Heaven seems to be a 44 min version O_o
