There were two prints on ebay - one Tech and the other the '82 version. I was supposed to have deposits on both, but the Tech one wound up selling out from under me. I still had a deposit on the '82 copy, and was all set to finish the purchase when he told me that two of the reels were stolen at a garage sale. I asked if I could buy the remaining reels at a pretty decent price and he replied that in his opinion the print was unsaleable. Anyway, that's what happened so far. We may have a lead on another print, but you'll have to read about that at AMPS (for security's sake)... :)
Do you believe the person in question? Because that's a really fishy story on the surface, and that's putting it mildly.

Compressed air pumped via a tube into a foam coffee cup, filled with fine sand or some other powdery substance. Cinemagic magazine had a tutorial on how to do such FX back then. I'm sure the ILM guys knew that trick as well. ;)

Two strip is actually a misnomer. The early two color system appears to have fallen out of use in the early years of the Depression, due it's expense and declining box office attendance.
That wouldn't go over so well in Germany. ;)

He never said nor is it hinted that he designed 3PO. He rebuilt a protocol droid out of scrap he'd been smuggling out of Watto's junkyard.
That the 3PO model is old enough to be found in a junkyard is where I had issues with it.
There are junkyards full of wrecked cars of recent vintage where people go to pull useable parts from though. Something Lucas probably did in his hot rod days.

RotS wasn't dark, though.
Murdered kids, dead jedi, dead Padme, and barbequed Anakin. And it's the only SW film to date to get a PG-13 rating.
