Me too. :) Even attended a few "Trekker" parties many moons ago (just an excuse to watch a bunch of Trek before a new movie came out, really) My favorite series overall was Deep Space Nine, though I've enjoyed all of them to varying degrees.

While we're on Trek (we'll stop soon, I'm sure!), do you like it to any degree, Ady?

I was loyal threw out growing up with Next Generation and onward. I had friends that were also fans but a lot of people disliked Deep Space Nine when it started. Mostly because it was so different. I stuck with it and it became a great show. I may go so far as to say it's my favorite. What I find ironic as that it's the closest Star Trek has come to bieng Star Wars. The Space Station bar on that show and the aliens (not to mention the later space battles) are total Star Wars rip-offs. So it's nice to see everything come full circle.

Ok, just to throw in my two cents- DS9 was indeed, imho, the most refined and human of the Trek series. It sat right in the middle of TOS and TNG's social commentary and the later series' special effects, while having the best writing of the bunch. Ok, I'm done.

On topic: Wow. Never heard about that scene. It would be cool if that were ever released. Especially if it featured B-wings. Those were majorly underutilized.

What the hell is Star Trek??

I'll pretend I didn't read that. Sure, Star Wars and Trek may have an unofficial (and overstated) rivalry, but personally I am a trekkie as well, and Trek is a monumental franchise in science fiction history. Even if you don't like it, it is still important- it came before Star Wars, and was the first serious science fiction show on television. Here's a wikipedia link.

And if you were joking, I stand as a Trekkie fool. :P

But this is all extremely off-topic.

Where can one obtain a copy of this edit?

I received mine from Reave via this thread. However, I'd be happy to send you a copy. Let me pm you.

I'm not so sure on the sith eyes for luke. Luke in the cave, maybe. But when you think about the cave, its purpose is to show Luke what he could become. If his face is drastically different i.e glowing creepy eyes, then it might not have the same humanizing effect.

I think you mean "USB couldn't care less". See, it actually makes logical sense to say that. "Couldn't care less" literally means "doesn't care at all". "Could care less" implies that it does. And so help me I will hunt down and kill any of you who make that mistake again.

=p

LOL. I was just thinking about that the other day. Glad I'm not the only one. :D

I just watched magnoliafan's edit of Episode I. He did an awesome job making a coherent story line, while removing the bulk of unnecessary silliness. Only complaint is that the new subtitles were overly crude at times and alien voices were a bit awkward. He made Jar Jar genuinely funny at times, which was impressive. I look forward to seeing what you can do, adywan. I think "Lucas Apologists" would be the correct term for those who try to justify anything GL does...

Did you watch the avi file or the DVD? The dvd copy has 4 sets of subtitles- the newest version (ADigitalMan '04) is much more refined and less crude- i.e. no Jar Jar swears. :P I can agree with you on the alien voices though. Personally, I got used to it within 20 minutes or so.

And @ Stewie, I'm interested to see what you're doing to the prequels. Can't wait to see the finished products.

ady, i don't know if this has been mentioned before but if possible i'd love to see some signs of re-entry burn through luke's viewport as he plummets into degobah's atmosphere

that just looks so much better than the white IG88

on palpatines disfigurement, the ROTS novel certainly gave me the impression that he was masking himself

it's just a shame the makeup was so unrealistic - should have been much more subtle

i think in the end we will get a truely awesome revisited OT

the PT?  well you can pollish a turd - but it will still be a turd

it's going to take something godlike to bring them into the same ballpark as the OT:R

Good to know my theory has some backup. :P Also, I think a more refined edit along the lines of MagFan's prequels would work nicely, with the combination of the touch-ups seen in the OT:R. Obviously, the graphics are almost completely refined, due to their more recent creation. Also, with GoodMusician's complete scores, any voice changes/overdubbing would be much more easily carried out, since the background music would not have to be compromised.

Yes, but one must find the diamonds the animal ate before the turd. GL may fail at dialogue work, but he definitely had some great ideas. The trick is to isolaate them from the rubbish.

maybe another battledroid reference could be added?

But would'nt they have melted that droid by then? I mean, I doubt battledroids were used after the clonewars right? So it should've been deactivated for 20 years... unlikely to be collecting dust in a recycling facility.

Maybe I'm just thinking too much :P

It's been 20 years or so: let's look for a relevant RL example. Old audio receivers. :D There are still '80s or earlier audio receivers lying around junk shops, even though much newer and more advanced models exist. I think it makes sense that at least some battle droids would have been utilized for guard duty, etc. Lol.

Iv'e always hated Palp's transformation in Ep III. I'd prefer to think the disfigurement came through the years of artificially prolonging his life using the Dark side of the force. I wish Palp could have just have looked like himself (pre-transformation) but paler and with sith eyes that flare up at times throughout EpIII. A slow transformation through the Dark side makes more sense than instant disfigurement.

My thoughts on that were that due to his increased Dark Side usage in the prequels, Palpy was already beginning to look older and creepier, as seen in the numerous Darth Sideous holograms. I know he was cloaked, but he still seemed older and uglier than "Senator" and "Chancellor" Palatine did. I thought he might have been using the force to disguise his features. When zapped by his own lightning, he said, oh, here's a nice excuse to look evil like normal. Also, this might further explain the "I can't hold it anymore..." line. It could refer to his lightning, but it doesn't really make a lot of sense. Why would he hold his attack if it were crippling him? Would it not make more sense that he were losing his disguise? Note that he also does not seem very concerned that he looks creepy. Without even looking in a mirror he draws up his cloak to hide his disfigurements, suggesting he already knows what he looks like.

Anyways, ontopic, I like the droid gag idea. :P Would be something fun to look for while watching the original trilogy.

The one suggestion I have for the hologram is adding some color back into it.  The vast majority (if not all) of the OT holograms have some color to them, like Leia in ANH, Luke in ROTJ, and the original Emperor in ESB.  Unfortunately, just like in TPM and AOTC, Lucasfilm forgot about this when they re-did the Emperor's hologram for ESB, and now it's a monochrome blue.  Do you think you might be able to bring some slight skin tone back to it?  That might also help it look a bit like ROTJ Emperor and less like ROTS Emperor.

I had noticed that. I always thought of it as sort going between B&W and color TV. The technology progresses over the years. I hadn't really thought about this scene, but you make a good point.

I just received my copy in the mail. I'm amazed by how seamless everything is.

Things I actually miss from the 2004 DVDs:

Hyperspace star spin

Musicless Obiwan fight (I know that's in the Purist)

And, believe it or not, the bump SFX when the trooper hit his helmet on the half-closed door- that always made me happy

Even so, I think this is the best Star Wars has ever looked. Thanks so much for your time and effort, Adywan. :D

Technically, it depends on how you interpret the ground they are standing on. Yoda is on some sort of stumpish thing, whereas Obi-Wan seems to be standing on a sloping front of a tree root. Taken like that, Obi-Wan is indeed small. However, the ground also resembles a farther-back slope, in which case he is the same size, but farther back. It's all from your point of view. :P

Hey Ady, I have a question that I don't think has been asked yet: if there was pristine footage of the original Emperor scene, would you use that instead of the McDiarmid re-do? I know I would.

But... Why? The new one is the Emporer, the old one was a mockup for an unseen character. I mean, for preservation efforts, sure, but in terms of creating any sort of continuity, the new one is the best, regardless of dialogue choices.

Edit: Yeah, Ady beat me to it. :P

In Ripplin's version, the star destroyers are still a bit blue and dark.

Yeah, that's because I didn't touch them. Heh. But looking at it after all this, I think they look ok at such a distance, especially as it still shows a good contrast in color between them and the SSD.

Here's the ultimate SSD; the Super Special Star Destroyer, with patented "huh?!" technology:

All right, I can see your argument there. However, when Palpatine told Vader "you killed her in your anger", Luke had not yet been born. Therefore, for all Vader knows, there could be a Luke with the same last name running around. I mean, it is a big galaxy, after all.

I guess I'll be ok with either version.

Personally, I have no problem with the new Palpatine lines. As much as people may pretend the prequels never happened, the added lines do support the assumption that Vader did not know what had happened to his child(ren). With the old lines, it appears he already knows Luke is his son. I mean, it's up to Ady, but IMO the newer ones are one of the SE changes I agree with.

The blinking looks great. And second of all, that was a low bitrate? I didn't even notice. o_0 And even more spectacularly, it's in HD. 0_0 I have never seen Star Wars in HD before, and it looks amazing. Does this mean that an HD version of the Revisited versions might be available? That would be SO AWESOME.
