As I mentioned in my first note, it was getting late(2am nearly) so I didnt want to get too involved in what actually was wrong with ROTS as this would have taken a while, I just wanted to add my overall personal view which is what counts as what I feel about ROTS is what I feel about PM and AOTC. As for my grammar and paragraph structure - purrlleeezze!
(New paragraph) As for me being 6 when ANH came out, it was actually my 7th birthday when I got to see it, films stayed around for a lot longer in them days, Star Wars was in the cinemas for years after its release. Over the next 4-5 years I became a real addict. You had to really make an effort then as there was less media, no quick video/DVD release, no internet to check out every nook and cranny about a film. But since then I have(as many others have) seen the original trilogy honestly about 100 times and it is not with blinkers, ignoring the negative aspects(of which there are only a few) at all. In my opinion ANH and ESB as pieces of fiction adventure are true masterpieces in every way. You know why? Because Lucas had to work his butt off to make them happen, instead of strolling through these last 3 checking how many billion dollars he'd made that morning. That is maybe why ROTJ was not quite up to the first 2, he'd well and truly made it by then.
As for where and when I saw ROTS, I did say if you bothered to read that I saw it on opening night at the Rochester cinema in Kent, England. Heard of it? No, thought not.

I'm not sure that you get the point of this made-up quote...
Explain it to me then.

I really dont do this sort of thing at all, in fact this is my first time, but there are some things that I'm passionate about, and as foolish as it sounds to most people Star Wars is one of them. We really are the perfect age group for the original films and Star Wars has been around for most of my life and holds very cherished memories from my youth, ones that are important I'm sure you'll agree. It is one of the subjects (along with football) that I could talk about all day!(or night as the case may be).

i thought I'd start a new topic as the boys/girls currently discusing ep3 seemed to thoroughly enjoy it and so I dont want to spoil their fun by going on about how awful ROTS was, which is exactly what I am going to do now!
I'm a 34 yr old guy from the UK who was just the right age when watching Star Wars for the first time in 1977. I have grown up with it as have millions of others. When I first heard there were going to be some new films ie. the prequels I was so excited, and could not wait for them to happen. It was a BIG thing for me. But if I was honest I always knew in the back of my mind that he (George Lucas) was going to FUCK IT UP big style, and that he would eventually ruin evrything that was so sacred to me and everyone else of my kind. I just didnt realise how much he would fuck it up. He has outweighed all expectations of how badly he could have done things.
I was flicking around the TV stations tonight and ended up finding Star Wars ANH on Sky Movies, watched about 1/2 hour for the 300th time. It just confirmed what I already knew, that these new prequels are just completely diffrent films and have no place in the galaxy of the originals. I swear George Lucas was assassinated in the early 80's and replaced with a guy who knows nothing about the original 3 films and the times that they were made and the feelings people had for them. EVERYTHING about the originals are superior - everything that is supposed to count anyway. The story, the acting. the feel, the suspense, the dialogue, I could go on and on.
The CG of the prequels counts for nothing if everything else about it is 4th rate. It breaks my heart because you cannot bring back the feelings you had for the originals that GL has just swiped away from me over these last 3 films. I've decided to just pretend they never happened and go back to imagining what happened before ANH, which was what we all had to do before Phanom Menace and my own imagination and I'm sure everyone elses is much more satisfying than what George Lucas has come up with.
There must be literally hundreds of thousands of fans that could have written a better story, better dialogue, a way of connecting to the originals without being so contrived, and I am serious when I say that. There are a lot of talented people out there that are Star Wars fans that would have done ten times a better job than has been done. There are probbably a lot of actual film producers/directors ie. Tarantino,Soderburgh that must be thinking Christ if only I could have had ago at it. GL had 30 years to come up with this shit! He actually tries to convince everyone that he had most of this already written in the first place but that is complete rubbish. He had a basic story, the rest he has just lamely tried to piece togetther. He had about as much idea as to what happened before ANH as the rest of us, the difference is most of us would have done it better. If he had spent .001% of the time and budget that he spent on CG, on actually trying to make a half decent movie with half decent acting, dialogue and story he may have made a better job. The fact that he managed to make some of the best and coolest actors on the planet ie. Ewan. Samuel J, Natalie P look amaturish, was quite an achievement, and speaks volumes for the whole project. Now that it is all over I bet you Ewan will be coming clean about how bad an experience it was. After all, he was a huge fan too, he must feel really let down and humiliated. I may return to comment on particular individual gripes about ROTS but it is getting late and that could take some time.
Thanks for reading if you have. Would be interested to hear from anyone with similar feelings. Cheers.
