With some patience and clever watching (meaning spell things wrong or omit things in the search on ebay) you can get the Faces/Def. Col. for uber cheap.

I got the Faces set for about $25 INCLUDING shipping.

And I got the Def. Col. for $55ish including shipping. It was listed as "Star Wars Trilogy"

So roughly $80 for both sets.

Just a tip.

Does anyone know how/when the six track mix was recreated?

The first disc is sourced from the U.S. Laserdisc The Making of SW + SPFX of Empire and the second disc is sourced from the original U.S. VHS tapes (first releases) - Classic Creatures + From SW to Jedi the Making of a Saga (these are some of my first captures ever )

I also have the Dr. Gonzo transfers of the Japanese Laserdiscs (all for docs on two DVD's) of course they have the burned in subtitles but to be honest they look better then mine (except for the darn subtitles!!)

Is there any way of me possibly obtaining a copy of the first set (The one that's not Japansese)?

I could PiF to anyone else who wants it.

I'm planning on doing something like that.

***The MeBeJedi feedback thread ***

Hi. I am new to OT.com forums and have decided to attempt to start my own O-OT restoration from laserdiscs.

This may seem like a strange way to do this, but I am doing it for money reasons. My (untested) way for capturing LD's to my PC is to run the analoge audio and video outs from my LD player to my miniDV camera. I would record the LD's onto the miniDV tapes. Then I would transfer the tapes losslessly to my PC.

My questions are:

1) Is the DV compression significant enough to matter for restoration and DVD-authoring purposes?

2) Am I losing significant quality by using the analoge out from my LD player? I am using the digital tracks on the LD, but using the analog outs.

Basically, is it worth it or should I buy a capture card with optical digital in?

BTW, my LD player DOES have optical out. (It's a Sony MDP-455.)
