STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Just for my own piece of mind. Here are a few points I'd like to make about what I'd like to see/not see...

1 - Implied violence is ALWAYS more frightening than shown. For that reason, we don't need to see the Wampa.

2 - Get rid of the recycled ROTJ Vader Shuttle footage. It was HORRIBLE, and should never been seen (except in ROTJ) again.

3 - The Emperor hologram sequence. While I never saw a problem with the original look or Clive Revil's voice in the first place. I rather enjoyed hearing Ian McDiarmid. However, I thought he looked like total shite. Can you use footage of him from ROTJ, and make it look more "hologram-y". The 2004 ESB DVD had the hologram not looking tranparent enough. Also, PLEASE cut out all the new dialogue that Ian recorded for the 2004 DVD, and leave only the original conversation between Vader & The Emp. the new dialogue makes Vader's reveal to Luke completely redundant to the viewer, and takes away ALL of the emotional tension.

Of course, I'm sure you've thought of all this already.

Natalie Portman hosting SNL this weekend...
Time
Just saw a Promo for Natalie's SNL last night. I'm going to try to quote it from memory....

NP: Hi, I'm Natalie Portman, and I'll be hosting Saturday Night Live this week, with musical guest Fallout Boy. Check it out Star Wars fans. I'm going to make out with Threepio.
Member of Fallout Boy: I thought that sketch was cancelled.
NP: Who said anything about a Sketch?

It's obvious that she has a sense of humor about SW. Then again, she'd have to after appearing in the PT.

No, saying "Quention Tarantino Presents" means he's producing, or just introducing it to a market other than where the film was made.

Having the "LucasBooks" insignia determines, that the item IS in fact official, and not a work of Fan Fiction.

Technically then, wouldn't ALL of the EU be considered glorified fan fiction, since it is just books, comics, etc. written by fans? Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the EU by any means (I think it's all kinda crappy), I just thought it made an interesting comparison.

Not really, because everything officially as part of the EU has the Lucas name on it (obviously not a trademark of quality), and does go through the LFL Continuity department. You may not like it, but it DOES count.

Fan films are just that. Films made by fans. Whether or not they get nominated for a lucas-awards means nothing. They don't count as part of the official EU. It doesn't matter how good they are. They just don't count.

Granted, there are more connections to the HS in the EU than I mentioned before, but a few of of those are connections to Kashyyyk as a planet rather than the HS itself. Or in some cases fall outside the established continuity of the EU (like the Marvel comics).

To use the argument that the HS is part of TV history is unfair at best. There are MANY shows that could be considered part of TV History that have yet to be released on DVD. I'll use Elvis Presley's appearances on the Ed SUllivan Show as an example. In particular, the show where he was filmed from the waist up (contrary to popular belief, that was only that one time, and NOT ALL the times he appeared on the show). That is a far more important piece of TV history (and music history too), but is it available on DVD? No. It's certainly better quality, and FAR more deserving of seeing an official DVD release than the HS. What about the very first episode of Saturday Night Live? that's TV History too. I could come up with several things that are of more historical significance for TV than the HS.

Also, saying that it's better than "some of the crap on TV today" doesn't mean a thing. As long as there's been TV, there's been crap on it. Face it, the HS is NEVER going to be released officially, and no amount of trying to make it seem more important that it actually was will not change that fact.

I'm going to ask for a "show of hands" here; How many people that actually want it, own copies of the HS on DVD thanks to the hard work of people like Rikter? I personallly have THREE different DVDs of the thing, each one in better quality than the first. The best one I've seen so far is the KCCI version. An official release won't be much better quality than that is. So, if you already have it on DVD, stop wasting time hoping for an official release, and enjoy the bootleg because that's the best you're gonna get.

You've got a better chance of the O-OT appearing on DVD than ever seeing ANY kind of official release of the HS (in whole or in part).

Seriously, no matter how much some of the people in here actually like the Holiday Special, how many of them can honestly say that they think it's a piece of QUALITY entertainment?

There is a reason that this thing hasn't seen the light of day since it originally aired. IT'S A STEAMING PILE OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I enjoy watching it once in a while, but that doesn't change the fact that it's crap. Lucas has every right to feel humiliated by the fact that this thing survived all these years. If you think that Lucas actually gives a damn about the fans, and will release this because some of you want it so badly, you're sadly mistaken and more than a bit naive.

Be thankful for Rikter, and the people like him that make this stuff available in the best possible quality. Besides, 9 times out of 10, they take more time & care in preparing their releases than Luc-a$$ does.

and for the record, the HS is NOT part of the OT. The keyword there is TRILOGY. TRI = 3. Not 3+ the HS. THREE. In addition, the HS is BARELY touched upon in the EU. It mentions the names of Chewbacca's family (their FULL names, not those cheesy nicknames). and the Dark Horse comics series called CHEWBACCA mentions his family as well. Incidentally, the same series of novels that first acknowledged the HS also mentioned Cindel Towani (from the just as awful Ewok movies) as a holonet reporter.

Regardless of all this, no matter how much fun PARTS of the HS may be to watch, it's still garbage, and WILL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY on an official release. Wish for it in your right hand, and shit in your left. Then tell me which hand got filled up first.

Ok, but it's how I've said, just little details... that's all. When you see that on a "continuity" point of view, you easily understand that the EU is, for GL, a very secondary universe...
There are no real big references... The biggest one I've seen is Obi's line concerning Quinlan Vos. And that jedi was intended to be seen in ROTS, but has been cut...

I guess you're forgetting that Aayla Secura was an EU character LONG before she appeared in AOTC. In fact, GL saw a comic book cover with her on it and then decided to make her a "real" character

Ummm, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but if it came from a first vinyl pressing, it won't sound any better than the vinyl itself (Unless someone like me, that knows what they're doing with audio restoration, cleaned it up). But, since the CD release came from the original master tapes, it does sound better than the vinyl.

Lucas has made multiple references to Droids in the PT

Like what?
I'm really not sure about that. Just see the end of ROTS, where droids seem to be new "members" of the Tantive IV. The reference books had to explain the "hole" between ROTS and ANH, where, in the series, the droids have no masters...

"Lucas making references to the EU", that line sounds really uncredible, IMO (even if he has, for some little details)...

Here are the references, straight from Wookieepedia:

- In the fourth episode of the series 'A Race to the Finish', the Droids end up at a race known as the "Boonta Race." A similar name was used for the podrace in 'Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace', which was known as the "Boonta Eve Classic".

- The swamp planet of Bogden is a planet visited by the droids in the series. In 'Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones', Jango Fett says that he was "hired by a man named Tyranus on the moons of Bogden."

- As confirmed by StarWars.com, the wheel bike, which was Jann Tosh's vehicle as seen in the animated series, was also the type of vehicle that was the vehicle of choice for General Grievous in 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith', when in a chase with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Utapau.

- The diner in an episode of the series has a strong similarity to Dex's Diner as seen in 'Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones'.

- Toong from the series was given as the home planet for a species in the prequels.

- In the episode, 'The Pirates of Tarnoonga', the pirate caves on Tarnoonga bear a striking resemblance to the sinkhole grottos of Utapau as seen in 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith'.

Dude, you know WAY too much about both the droids cartoons, and the PT. May God have mercy on your soul (because I'm pretty sure you
won't find any here)

He will bring in writers who are ACTUALLY TALENTED. Now, I know he will write the 3D Clone Wars, but there is hope at least for the live-action. And I agree with battlewars, the show should rely VERY LITTLE on CG and such. It should have more of an OT feel, while dealuing with things PT-related.

Lucas also brought in Jonathan Hales to help with the script for AOTC, and look how that turned out. Need I say any more?

Behind the scenes...

MARK: Sir Alec, how can I become as distinguished an actor as you?
ALEC: Well Mark, first of all, you must treat the character of Luke as a very whiny bitch-boy. After that, you should make a really awful movie featuring a very expensive car in the title. Then, years later, you should do voice work in video games & cartoons.
MARK: Really?
ALEC: Yes Mark, if you follow my instructions, you will never fail.
MARK" Wow Sir Alec! Thanks so much for your time & advice! (Mark runs away to call his agent about Corvette Summer)
ALEC: (under his breath): What a stupid mother fu***r!

I can honestly say that I'm NOT looking forward to EITHER TV series in anyway. I feel that Star Wars has become bigger & more successful than he ever imagined or hoped. He doesn't know how to deal with the success & keep the quality high, so he's been subconsciously trying to destroy his creation over the years. I really feel that ROTS put the lid on the coffin, and the new series will be the final nails. Star Wars as a watchable medium is dead. The books & comics have consistantly been of superior quality, and more interesting. Let's leave the future of SW to the real writers, and forget about watching something new. If we want to watch something of real quality, we have the O-OT (well, at least SW & TESB, anyway). I'm a HUGE fan of the EU as well, and I LOVE the novels & comics. I'll stick with them when I want extra info. As far as the TV series are concerned, I can go to the bathroom & shit out something of better quality than Lucas can now (and did so just this morning).

No offense taken. Again, this is supposed to be all in fun. If people really get insulted by something they read on the internet...

...I really don't know what else to say. Jay, feel free to lock this thread down and remove it.

Things that you have always wondered about...
Time

1. Do they have a bathroom on the Falcon? - Somewhere....
2. Why did Irvin Kershner not seem to mind the actors pronouncing Han's first name (esp Carrie Fisher who said both versions)? - HE was busy counting the zeros on his paycheck
3. What were the conversations like when Han, Leia and Chewie dined with Darth Vader? - I'm sure it was nothing but small-talk
4. Why did George Lucas dub over so many of the British actors with American actors? I'm sure many of them could have used an American accent had they been asked. - Everybody knows that British accents sound more evil than American ones
5. Does Vader sleep with his mask and helmet on? If so, don't his breathing sounds keep him awake? - Yes, he wears the mask. He also uses earplugs so he can't hear his breathing
6. Did Luke and Leia sleep together before they found out they were related? (yuck) - God, I hope not (unless I was from the south, in which case, I sure hope so)

Maybe, but it's supposed to be all in fun. There are people on the forum that do think Lucas is a genius, and do the same thing the Rick McCallum does. Besides, this is the internet, and people shouldn't take it personally.

If Jay wants to lock this thread down, I'll understand completely, and I apologize in advance to anyone that might actually take it personally & be offended by it.

That being said, I'm waiting for the first nominations to come in.

Remember, it's all in fun.

Forgive me if this seems crazy, but after reading a LOT of posts by certain people on a few of the threads, I think it's appropriate.

I'd like to begin a monthly "award" called:

"The Rick McCallum Award for Exellence in Verbally Sucking George Lucas' C**k"

My profile is open to Private messeges, and I ask that those of you that think this could be fun should send me a private message nominating any poster that fits the above. I need thier screen name, thread they posted on, and a quote from them.

On the last day of the month (starting right now) I will announce the top 3 nominees, and on the first of each month, I will announce the winner (or loser, depending on how you look at it). For example, the winner for February will be announced on March 1. Nobody is exempt from being nominated, myself included. Let's have some fun with this. I know I will.

Let the nominations for February begin!
