Idea & Info: an OT preservation project in Anamorphic W/S + on Dual-Layer DVD = ?
Time

I don’t frequent this forum as much as I should so this topic may have been beat to death already, but anywho…

So the Dr. Gonzo set is fabulous and it’s anamorphic but leaves a wee bit to be desired on the video quality front.

The TR47 (Cyclops v1?) set is amazing looking but not anamorphic and has no extras.

I’ve seen it said here that making a DVD9 ISO (a dual-layer disc) wouldn’t have any effect on the video quality - that Laserdisc video, by its nature, is soft and throwing a ton more bits at it wouldn’t make it a whole lot better.

But - would the dual layer discs make sense for an anamporphic transfer? I mean, anamorphic needs extra data just for the size of the image, right? Plus there’d be data left over for the commentaries from the Dr. Gonzo set.

Am I wrong?

Info Wanted: Which OT project version were available on...?

Well I'm almost certian they're not anamorphic since when I played them in a software DVD player they had the black bars. But a friend played them on his Xbox and the picture filled out his HDTV screen - I figured the Xbox just took care of the zooming for you.

Also - is there a topic on this board that polls which ones people think are best?

If this is a verboten topic, please just delete it and forget I asked.

Remember that really popular and now safely dead torrent site Suprnova? Remember that they had some torrents of laserdisc rips of the OT?

Well, does anyone know which of the various rips they were? TR47? They were non anamorphic and had “Definitive Collection” logos, commentaries, easter eggs, etc. For some reason ESB even had dolby digital sound.

Just curious which ones they were.

A.K.A. I'll have to re-download all the torrents

for starters, that's a drastic solution to a nuisance problem. Hit up Google Groups and see if anyone knows how to fix your problem. Note that if your DVD Burner has a hardware problem then the hard drive reformat won't fix it.

But here's a thought - before you blow away your data, take your hard drive to a friend with a DVD burner (or a bigger hard drive) and either burn the discs or at least back them up. That's what I did (as I have no DVD Burner)
