J. Williams & LSO, The EMPIRE STRIKES BACK AUDIOPHILE EDITION - Restored & Remastered Score (Released)
Time

RE: the ABC RSO reconstruction. Perhaps improvements wasn't the best choice of words. The arrangement and excision of tracks in a new engaging musical progression will be very interesting to hear in any event.

RE: the original RSO double LP: What I was referring to was a listening experience speed and pitch corrected, eliminating most of the inherent background noise found on the flac encoded RSO LP on the net (i.e. vinyl pops and hiss), while keeping the original album tracks and arrangements as they were presented. Basically, a remastered original RSO double LP compiled from the best sources you have.

Nostalgia is a big thing for me. I played that double LP more times than I can remember when I was a kid. To have a cleaned up version of that exact album for posterity's sake would be something great to have in the vault, in addition to all the fine work you've done on your own version and the complete score as well. Would it become my defacto ESB album? Probably not. But it would certainly bear quite a few listens when I need to get transported back to 1980/81.

Again, it's something I'd love to have, but this is and always has been your project. If you want to make the album, great! If not, I'm sure I'll live. But I hope it's something you'll consider, if not for this project, maybe for something as an aside.

Anyway, keep up the great work!

edit: and again you beat me to the post with your own edit! ;)

Yeah, I probably could arrange it myself, and the vinyl rip out there is sufficient enough as is. I may actually consider doing this once you release the AE. Again, it was just a thought and I'm definitely more than pleased with what you're doing here.

ABC,

I was just taking a look at the tracklist again for disc three. At first I though this was going to be a straight up re-release of the RSO double LP, just scrubbed, cleaned, and hit with some ABC polish. Which, by the way, would be a fantastic release as well. However, you're obviously going a different route and the final product appears to be an "improved" RSO listening experience. Certainly, I'm looking forward to sitting down for 80 minutes and digesting that!

Do you have any plans on releasing a restored RSO LP? This is something, to my knowledge, not yet done. I'd love to have a clean as clean can be copy of the album, rather than the LP rips out there; sourced from the best tracks released to this day with all the sonic improvements you're able to do on all your releases. And, yes, I'd like it to be just like the original release, wacky arrangements and all (Mynock cave at the end of the Main Title? Wha???). Anyway, it may make a nice "disc four" to the set, to complete the audiophile experience!

Just a thought. Looking forward to those samples!

They're all looking good! Of course I'm partial to #2 in this reply. McQuarrie art is always welcome (I wonder what that cover looks like with an angled logo). And I think #3 would be a great choice for the insert.

Any work on the liner notes yet?

Yeah, that's the one I compared to earlier. I was never aware until today that different mixes existed for the Finale. Even with your OEv3, I tend to stop or start over once it gets to the NPO tracks (I'm not a huge fan of those - not your work on them mind you, just the tracks themselves). Needless to say, I'm going to have to give the alt. cues a listen....

ABC,

Sorry if it's been discussed to death. I obviously haven't read every post on the subject. It was just something that became news to me right now! :)

I'm off to read the discussions right now.

Move along, move along... ;)

edit: And you explained it nicely for the alternate version in track 22. To be honest, I didn't read about the alternate tracks when reading about the edits you're making for this version. I was most interested in the main score itself. It's great to read that you're including the alt. stuff as well. This should assure that this version will be the end all be all version for the future.

edit 2: And we really need to stop editing our posts at the same time! :)

I also wanted to check if the snares are present on any other versions of the finale. As far as I can tell, they're only present on the vinyl album. The snares aren't present (or drowned out to be nearly inaudible, if that's possible) on the SE, the anthology, or the 1980 or 2004 version of the movie itself. I don't have the RSO CD handy to compare at this moment. So it would seem that the vinyl album mix may be in error. A shock, to be sure!

Perhaps I haven't listened to the scores enough on headphones, me thinks! :)

What I was referring to was when the Imperial March transitions to the cue taken from the RSO CD Imperial March track during the credits sequence. To me, it was a noticeable transition. After comparing the two now (your edit and the finale on the SE set) what stands out to me is the fact that the original cue (from the SE soundtrack) lacks snare drums in the background starting around 3:51, while your edit from the Imperial March standalone track does have snares.

I've listened to this credits sequence about a million times over the years (it is, after all, the best medley in the series!), so I guess that's why it just seemed off.

Still, I can't wait for this release!

I also corrected all the balances on the "Rebel Fleet/End Titles" and it now really seems to be played in one stroke (sample will be updated soon).

Looking forward to hearing that. After listening to that track with headphones a few days ago, it was pretty apparent different sources were used to compile it. Especially so when the Imperial March kicks in. It wasn't very noticeable through floor speakers, though. If you've got that all smoothed out, it should be fantastic!

The major differences are to the left of the Tauntaun's leg. I did a little cloning to make that area darker so the logo popped more. It looks fine on the DVD cover, but looks odd without the logo.

This is by far my favorite poster for any Star Wars movie, followed closely by the Revenge of the Jedi teaser.

I found my original and I only shaved a few pixels from the top. The rest of the image is identical.

ABC,

In case you haven't already, grab the other jpg I put up of the cover. The first one I uploaded had some tweaking I did to it to fit my esb:r cover better. The second upload is untouched aside from some possible trimming on the sides, though I don't know if I did that in the first place.

Btw Savage, I'd be quite inerested in your high res ESB scan (I guess it is) at least to recover the foot of my tauntaun ! :)

No problem. Here you go:

edit: Whoops, that's not right! Let me see if I can find the original...

edit 2: Here it is. I think I may have cut some info from the sides at some point. I can't seem to find the original file anywhere...

Yeah, that doesn't look as good. I was thinking more along the lines of the same angled appearance on the movie poster, with blue lettering. I don't think that's the look you're going for, so I will leave you to the design you're trying to achieve which is looking good in its own right. :)

ABC,

Just dropping by to let you know how much I'm looking forward to this. I've been listening to your OEv3 on/off since New Years and it's quality stuff indeed. If this can trump that, then I will be very grateful.

I'm especially looking forward to CD3. I practically wore those records out back in the day, and it will be outstanding to have a high quality version of it again!

Keep up the good work, my friend.

edit: Posting at the same time as Ady. Gonna have to dig out the discs tonight to check if I've got this. I've seen so many Star Wars docs in the last five years it's difficult to keep track of which I've seen alrady. :)

original post: So was this one included on any of the old fan compilation discs released the last few years? I've got quite a few of those and may need to rummage around to see if this is the one.

Is the rare one just a longer version of this version?

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Exactly, DE. Light and color reflects off just about everything and imparts its characteristics on the surroundings. Of course, this is all dependent on ambient light, direct illumination, type and color of illumination, and the subject's proximity to the object reflecting the subject. This is easy to see if you are wearing something brightly colored (red, neon, etc.). Put your arm close to a "non-reflective" surface like a wall or table and the closer you get, the more color is reflected back.

Now, as far as Ady's edits go, there is a mono-chromatic element to some of the DS interior shots, but it is still a vast improvement on the nasty blues of the DVD release. And unless characters are running around in neon shirts, or the Emperor laid down some red carpeting or some mood lighting, there wouldn't be a huge impact on the surroundings anyway. Of course there would be some color mixed in, but considering the source material and the time involved to impart more "color" just to the surroundings, I'm fairly happy as is....
