Your take on the conclusion of Fate of the Jedi book series ? (spoilers)
Time

Interesting. I don't know who/what Abeloth is, but I know who Krayt is. Since the title of this series is Fate of the Jedi, it would be the perfect time to kill off Luke, they've gotta do it sometime, as you said, their running out of time!

And if Krayt is the guy to make Luke become one with the Force, then that makes things rather poetic, given that Anakin had major issues with him in the Clone Wars and Cade ended up being the guy to kill him once and for all.

On the upswing of all of this, maybe if they kill Luke, the books won't focus on the OT characters as much, as they seem to be as drawn out character wise as much as they possibly could! We could have a new cast of fellows to follow!

Random questions of the OT, PT and EU
Time

1. When the 2004 OT re-release came about, there seemed to be many howls of dismay regarding the color corrections, higher saturation of colors and higher levels of contrast, I take it this is because it changed the original 'look' of the OT? Or would these changes be in favor in they were done with a more deft hand(as in not rushed in 30 days)?

2. I was looking over the RLM reviews and one of his points that stuck with me was how he noted that lightsabers became less special in the PT, being ignited all the time as well as a bunch of Jedi having them, as opposed to in the OT, where they were only ignited when needed, and at any given time, no more than two people were on screen using them.

I think he also complained about how the PT was too Jedi centric, compared to the OT, where you had a more even mix of 'normal' people, those without Force powers.

Anyway, upon further reflection, do you guys think this is a nitpick? This kind of thing seemed to be inevitable given that the PT was invariably going to be about the fall of the Jedi.

Certainly Lucas didn't have to go all lightsaber crazy at some points, like when Obi-wan ignites his lightsaber just to throw a tracking device on Jango's ship, but for everything else, I suppose it boils down down to personal preference, whether you wanted some broad based mythic Jedi focused story or a more personal grounded story that took place during this tumultuous time, or perhaps a combination of both.

3. I understand that their is a great deal of trepidation regarding the EU, primarily because of it's incessant need to connect everyone to everyone. Even so, how do you guys feel about many background characters having a name or story? I know that not all of the background guys have connections to other characters like they do in the EU novels, but do you guys like knowing their names and story or would you rather have them left unexplored?

Also, what's the general consensus on the Yuuzhan Vong? It seems they left a pretty big mark within the EU, and maybe I haven't been searching hard enough, but most fans these days seem to talk about the Jedi vs Sith aspects of the EU. The YV just seem to have faded into the background of the collective fandom's psyche.

What do you LIKE about the EU?
Time

I really enjoyed the Star Wars Tales comics. There was one in particular, post TPM but before AOTC came out, that took place in the Dark Times. It had Quinlan Vos dodging some bounty hunters and a young Han Solo looking for treasure. Turns out that treasure is Quin's lightsaber and he nearly gets killed by the bounty hunters but somehow Han saves his ass.

I know such a story would clash with a lot of people here, representing a miniaturizing of the SW universe, but personally I thought it was really cool. Do take note that this story was done in an era before the EU started making everyone connected to everyone to absurd levels like they do today.

Also it was made during that space of time where barely any Jedi survived Order 66. The only story I know of besides this one that had surviving Jedi was the one with the Dark Woman getting killed by Darth Vader. But then after ROTS came out, it seemed like every EU Jedi except the one's  killed in the movie survived.

Too many stragglers for my taste, though I did really enjoy the story where Darth Vader takes on like 10 Jedi all at the same on Kessel, it was so great to see Vader using strategy since he receives quite the beatdown taking them all on.

My favorite moment in that story is when he get's his arm cut off, which was holding a cortosis blade (cortosis short circuits/disables lightsabers) and since his lightsaber is still disabled, he uses the Force to impale another Jedi with the aforementioned sword arm.

Any favorite Star Wars scenes?
Time

I really dig the ambiance of Jabba's palace, and with the exception of the singer chick, the way it's set-up just makes me want to explore every nook and cranny! So many shady characters in there too, makes it seem like a very seedy but a place where you might want to kick it as well.

I love all the Dagobah scenes as well, especially when they're in Yoda's hut, it makes me feel all cozy and warm inside, with the combination of the fireplace and rain outside.

Mos Eisely is great as well, from Obi-wan's "Hive of scum and villainy line" to when they escape, it just feels so awesome and is indeed my favorite sequence out of both trilogies! The universe feels so big and teeming with life, even though they're only at a dusty spaceport, so much character is imbued in that setting, made all the more fantastic with Han Solo's presence and Luke's close call at the bar.

I really wish there were more moments in all of the films where we got to explore the Star Wars universe at the ground level as it were, because after that sequence in ANH it's all monochromatic corridors and dog fights, which are great, but the beginning is just so enchanting.

That ground level of Star Wars society is perhaps why I greatly enjoy many of the Tatooine bits in TPM, unfortunately those moments of immersion are marred by Anakin and Jar Jar, but they never ruin my appreciation for the more enjoyable fare, like Qui-gon's interactions with Watto, which always brings a smile to my face.
