The Place to Go for Emotional Support
Time

As someone who knows several people who have committed suicide when I was younger and too self-absorbed to notice something was very off, get her help.
She may hate you for a time but I assure you it’s much better than living with the regret of doing nothing.

When I found out my (now ex) long term partner was sleeping with my (now ex) childhood bestfriend and spread some very malicious lies about me some time ago my body pretty much shut down.
Despite the fact that she was both physically and emotionally abusive to me while we were living together, which was bad enough as is, what may have been worse was that nobody believed me because society likes to rile behind the “damsel in distress”, so I lost almost all my friends because those two toxic people knew how shitty they looked in that situation to everyone and wanted to counter it by saying unforgivable things about me.
Never mind that I would rather die than ever actually do what they claimed I did to someone; none of that mattered because men can’t be victims, apparently.

Things like that really show you who your true friends are, and if not for them (and the companionship of my cat), I probably would have done something very, very stupid.
I’m now exponentially happier and am dating someone who I’m quite fond of, to say the least, and a big part of it is thanks to the people who helped me.

Please find her help, even if she’s angry now she’ll be eternally grateful later.

Unfortunately there’s really not much doubt about the dislike of the Ghostbusters trailer being due at least in part to misogyny.

Beloved movies/franchises getting reboot/remakes are far from something new (and neither are bad trailers). The volume here is telling (not to mention the comments).

The trailer is being received so poorly because it’s bad.
Ghostbusters is a beloved franchise and they released a trailer for a remake that frankly, isn’t funny and has some very bad SFX; when the monster effects from the original look better you know you’re doing something wrong.
It has nothing to do with women being in the lead, like another poster said, the TFA trailer wasn’t annihilated by fans for having a woman in the lead, it was universally loved.
While I think TFA is a pile of crap I don’t dislike it because the lead is a woman, I hate it because I don’t think it’s a good film.

Clearly lots of people think that Ghostbusters just does not look like a good film.
The main complaint is that this comedy film is not funny, not that the leads have vaginas.

Stop using buzzwords as a scapegoat, they don’t help your argument and they don’t hold up to scrutiny.

Look, I usually don’t resort to ad hominem attacks, but are you intentionally trying to sound retarded?
Obviously those two uses of ‘real’ are different. In the most recent instance I used “real” to refer to practical effects, in the latter I meant the literal translation.

Twisting my words also doesn’t help you.

No personal attacks.
No excessive profanity

Yes, clearly I was the only one engaging in this.
I’m not getting into it again, but I apologize for breaking the guidelines in that instance, though other members getting away with it on a constant basis just because they’re well-known on the forums does not seem fair to me in the slightest.

Once again I’m sorry and it won’t happen again, but it being acceptable for a select few individuals to behave a certain way but nobody else doesn’t seem right.

Which version/release of the Star Wars movies do you watch and why?
Time

Depends on the mood but these are the ones I usually go to.
I have many, many different versions of each film but these are the ones I watch most:

The Phantom Menace:
VHS or BD.

Attack of the Clones:
VHS, ADigitalMan’s Extended Version or BD

Revenge of the Sith:
VHS (yes, really) or BD

A New Hope:
'92 VHS release (OOT), '97 Laserdisc or '06 Limited Edition release

The Empire Strikes Back:
'92 VHS release (OOT) or '11 BD

Return of the Jedi:
'92 VHS release (OOT) or '06 Limited Edition release

The Force Awakens:
BD, if I have to…

I very rarely meddle in fan edits or preservations, the only ones I regularly go to in that regard are the ADM Extended versions, but that’s it. Part of being a massive SW home video collector also includes an annoying tendency to not want to watch any of the films in a format other than official releases, for reasons that make very little sense.

I just think it’s hilarious that in the very next scene of the '11 version, the digital rocks magically disappear.

Yeah. If George was still in charge, maybe he’d add some tumbling rock sound effects during one of Ben’s shots in the 2017 edition.

I wouldn’t be surprised.
Some of the changes have been very ironic, at least when taking into consideration his “artistic vision” statement.
So it was your vision to have a really bad sped-up Emperor scream dubbed over Luke, but then also your vision to take it out the next time you released the movies?
Right…

What was your first reaction to Vader's "Noooo" in ROTJ?

Both of those changes were mindbogglingly stupid. Absolutely the stuff of hoaxes.
I just rolled my eyes, because it’s not like the BluRays were ever going to be something I would ever actually watch.

I can suffer the BD versions of ANH and ESB on occasion if I’m really bored, but I seriously can’t watch the BD version of ROTJ, it’s a nightmare.

No, in all seriousness all you do is sit on these forums trying to make people feel like shit.
If that’s how you get satisfaction out of life I just feel sorry for you.

My daughter has Asperger’s. She’s had to deal with all sorts of shit so far, and she’s only eight. She has a difficult life ahead of her. Not as difficult as others who are not high-functioning autistic, but difficult nonetheless.

Words have power. When you use “retard” to insult someone, you are insulting more than just the person you are talking to.

Go fuck off. I have nothing more to say to you.

Words only have power if you give them power, that’s your problem not mine.
Don’t try and use fallacies against me to make me feel bad, it doesn’t make you not an asshole.

If you want to go down that road I have multiple family members who are handicapped, stop being a prat and treating others like shit to make yourself feel better.

You don’t need “scientific fact” to prove that a real tree looks more real than a cartoon one.
Similarly, you don’t need “scientific fact” to tell that the speeder chase in ROTJ looked crap when it came out and looks crap to this day. Just because something has a nostalgic value to you it doesn’t make it better.

Ok honestly. How do you say something that is created entirely digital looks more ‘real’ compared to something with actual props and real people?? Plus the nostalgia argument is a bit invalid as well. If most of us were arguing this for the sake of nostalgia, we’d all agree that the matte lines in the original films are better than without them, a big fat lie if I ever heard one. Im huge supporter of the OUT but I can compromise and say dome things in the SE’s are better (Luke’s speeder, matte line removal, some CGI battle shots). So no the nostalgia factor doesnt work here. A big reason why a lot of fans prefer practical effects over digital effects is because theyre physical objects that in many cases sell the realism of the object more than digital. For instance, I will take puppet Yoda over CG Yoda ANYDAY! Yes the CG Yoda had more interactiveness and movement but we know which version looked ‘real’.

Because it is possible for CG objects and environments to more accurately replicate the real world than physical props.
I’m not saying all the prequels always accomplished this, but there are a few instances here and there where the CGI effects were more convincing than some practical ones from the OT.
I’ll be the first to say most of the PT effects are extremely dated, but that doesn’t mean every single one of them is bad now.
