"The Alvin Show" (Complete Series Preservation) (Released)
Time

Would love to continue this, but I’m still missing a bit (some people would like their sources unused in the public project, which I understand and am okay with, still nice to have em in some form); less so than when I began, but still need quite a few.

Haven’t been able to get ahold of PinkLaffs, as I was unable to work on this when he posted, and then a few months. Anyone have some contact info?

Hello - I have complete versions of most episodes, recorded off WGN Chicago 9 in 1984. These were sourced from unrestored film. Quality is what it is. Let me know if you’re interested.

Thanx!

Perhaps quoting the post would let them know via email? Super far stretch, but may as well, because those episodes sound great.

This guy post a very poor video of “The little dog” (S1E05) with the music, perhaps you could get a better copy?

Looking into that now, thank you so much! 😃

TL;DR - Project is still alive, just on the lookout for more sources.

The Simpsons: Embiggened Edition (* on hiatus *)
Time

Yeah, there was little thought in terms of longevity, it seems. My HDTV shows so many problems via the DVD, it stuns me.

Yeah, didn’t think it was Klasky related - not sure what happened there, likely a telecine issue. Rugrats episodes have the same issue (albeit, only specific episodes). Surprised they haven’t gone back to the film material for a complete upgrade with Simpsons (similar to Shout Factory and Pee-Wee’s Playhouse); would absolutely kill to see that.

Then again, who knows if they sill have all the film + reels… Rugrats, on the other hand… Nickelodeon’s gigantic archive PROBABLY holds em all, haha.

Idea & Info: 'The Rugrats Movie' - Original Theatrical Colors?
Time

Would love to try this again next year (finally picking up a replacement laptop in December)… the film also has a LASERDISC, which stuns me, honestly. Not sure how it fares in comparison to all other home video releases.

The movie is also apparently being added to Netflix at the start of September, and I’m seriously curious how that looks in comparison.

I have not looked at them for a while but I believe I have every episode on VHS except one. In the mid 90’s one of our local TV stations showed the show early in the morning and I taped them all. I haven’t viewed it in about 15 years. The quality is TV recorded quality. I don’t know if that would help you or not. I have always wanted to burn them to DVD so maybe I can find the time to do that. I would be leery to send the tapes thru the mail in case something happened and they would be gone forever. Feel free to contact me. Good luck!

That is absolutely a extreme help; sent a PM your way, feel free to take whatever you need to respond.

"The Alvin Show" (Complete Series Preservation) (Released)
Time

This project has been a labor of love, these past 3 years… since 2013, I have been attempting to make all 26 episodes of “The Alvin Show” available.

For those unaware, “The Alvin Show” was a 1961 - 1962 cartoon sitcom, that aired in prime time on CBS. It also aired in 1994 - 1995 on Nickelodeon, and the second season of Weinerville featured segments from the show. The show followed the adventures of David Seville and The Chipmunks, as well as a crazy inventor, named “Clyde Crashcup”. The show ran on a segment format, each segment being a different cartoon (Chipmunks and Clyde toons being 7 minutes, Music Segments being 3 minutes and 30 seconds).

Sadly, this show has been scarcely released on DVD (we got 3 episodes in 2015, one of which had been released prior in 2009), and since it hasn’t been on television since 1995, locating complete episodes of the show is quite a difficult task. However, over the years, I’ve accquired a large amount of the show’s segments, and have been hoping to splice what I have together, making all 26 episodes available to the public. However, I’m still missing quite a bit of stuff… I’ve put an episode guide below, showing what I do and don’t have.

One thing to note is that most of these segments are from different sources, so the quality majorly varies. However, any of the ones I claim to have are watchable. Any segments without a note are segments I already have…

Idea & Info: 'The Rugrats Movie' - Original Theatrical Colors?
Time

From what I remember, the DVD and VHS look like the WEB-DL… either the colors were changed from trailer to theatrical, or from theatrical to home video release. Sadly, I doubt any bootleg tapes of TRM exist anymore, and I didn’t see it theatrically (wasn’t even born yet). Gonna try and compare the trailer and any available TV spots (the colors were probably finalized by the time it was being promoted on TV. The trailer does indeed look better. I know the first SpongeBob movie had different coloring as it was released theatrically both on 16mm and digitally (where available)… perhaps TRM did this also?

The more I think about it, the VHS might not have been tinted… I’m oddly remembering the DVD and VHS were very different looking… anyone with the VHS and VCR wanna check for me? I have the tape but no VCR.

Idea & Info: 'The Rugrats Movie' - Original Theatrical Colors?
Time

This entire idea was inspired from the thread for “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”; just thought I’d share that, because why not.

The Rugrats Movie is personally, one of my favorite movies. I first saw it at the young age of 3 on video, in 2003. I had already fallen in love with the show, but the movie really added a lot more, and it just felt… bigger. The movie is still a classic in my eyes, and I want to preserve it the way it was intended to be seen, hence why I am here. It seems that, somewhere along the way, Paramount may have meddled with the colors of the movie. I took some screencaps of the theatrical trailer, taken from the movie’s US DVD, and also taken screenshots of the same frame from a 1080p WEB-DL of the movie (the US DVD looked the same as the WEB-DL, to my eyes, outside of the trailer of course).

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/152212 (either a red tint was added to the final movie, or a blue tint was added to this shot in the trailer; this is one of the few instances where I think the WEB-DL has the correct colors)

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/152213 (no need to comment, color change is painfully obvious)

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/152214 (seems a reddish-blue tint was added to the WEB-DL)

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/152215 (Background was totally redone between the trailer and the DVD/WEB-DL; no clue if the background in the trailer was just a placeholder, or if it actually appeared theatrically)

I am curious about a few things; would a CAM Rip exist for a movie so old (doubt it), or would someone still have a bootleg DVD from when it came out? Or, does anyone remember what it looked like theatrically? Someone did post a old Nickelodeon broadcast from 2004 or 2005 on the web (the 2 deleted scenes are included but those weren’t included theatrically), which I’ll get around to checking soon. Any other info that I failed to mention is greatly appreciated!
