What instruments do you play?
Time

I think I learned the Recorder in school. A few times.
Learned the Ukulele in school.
Took some guitar lessons in high school, that became my main instrument for some years, I can still play it but I prefer the keyboards these days, no training with keyboards, I struggle with two hand coordination and chords but know enough to make a good recording which is a fun hobby. I should take piano lessons.
I would like to get a violin or cello and a trumpet or trombone to mess with some day.
I find that playing along to a random station on the radio and when the song is over switching to another station and repeating for an hour or two is the best way to learn.

Time

♫ Life at last
Sit and listen while the fun begins
Hearts are broken and the bad guys win
Sit and listen all the cutting up is easy
and this isn’t for the queasy or the weak of heart
you had better start for home while there’s still time

All the evil that you created
getting horny and damned frustrated
Bored stiff and I want me a woman now

Oh! Yeeaaaah! ♫

Aaaaaaaaaaaah…

Luke: ♫ The good guys and the bad guys
Its amazing how much they’re alike
They both act sincere, but they’re so filled with fear
they switch sides in the wink of an eye
the good guys and the bad guys
Well there ain’t like old white and dark
A man knew where he stood then, while it was evil and good then
and the good guys always came out on top
Now who’s wearing black hats and who’s wearing white?
and who’s on the side of justice and right?
the line is so fine between heaven and hell
not even a hero can never tell…

The good guys and the bad guys
Today neither one wants to fight fair
they keep changing the rules and making all of us fools
until finally nobody cares
The good guys and the bad guys
don’t count neither one as your friend
when the going gets rough well they wont back you up
and you’ll stand all alone in the end
now how’s wearing black hats and who’s wearing white
and who’s the side of justice and right
well the line is so fine between heaven and hell
not even a hero can tell
the good guys from the bad guys… ♫

Not sure if I got this line right “well there aint like old white and dark”, its hard to make that one out, but its close.

What do you want for Christmas?
Time

1: I would like my friend to stop talking about politics. (too much to ask?)
2: I would like all people to realize that evil begets evil. (too much to ask?)
3: I don’t need anything for myself, give the rest to whom needs it. (too much to ask?)
4: stop fighting, beating eachother up, cheating eachother, assuming you know how others should live, clawing over eachother to get to the top of the pile of ground meat. This goes for EVERYONE ON THE PLANET. GROW UP. (too much to ask?)

The all-purpose ART thread!
Time

After being really blown away by ^ that drawing, then reading what you wrote… I want to grab you by the shoulders, shake you side to side like a maniac and yell “you can’t quit now!!!”.
I mean, Your gonna do what your gonna do, but I hope you don’t quit drawing, you can totally draw!

Apologies if any of this below is already known to you, or that you’ve already tried it ect. :

I know the feeling with capturing likeness’. Pain in the ass, biggest thing for me was being able to draw really lightly and using a stubby pencil held kinda sorta like this:

I sometimes draw with a grid if I’m a wuss, or my other wuss technique is I will sketch the face out as best I can then scan it and overlay the scan over the photo in gimp and shuffle between the layers to see where the drawing is wrong and the photo is right and take the sketch out of the scanner and correct it accordingly and then repeat until I’m satisfied.
I also stopped drawing on printing paper with pencil crayons. For me, the supplies DO matter. I like watercolors and inks and watercolor markers, moleskine paper for inked drawings because its smooth, erases well and is off white so it scans more accurately as long as the drawing has a good amount of contrast. And it just feels good to draw on that paper. Haven’t found the right watercolor paper yet. I’m single, so my moneys go to the art supplies. My skills are not yet where I wan’t them to be just yet but it gets better year by year, I just want to make good art so I keep at it, who knows how much time I have in the world…

To me it looks like you can draw no prob, but need to try some different rendering techniques for color, and maybe try your own interpretations for some characters so you don’t always have to worry about likeness if it stresses you out. Maybe you could color them digitally? I’ve scanned some of my drawings before then on another piece of paper painted abstract watercolors and scanned those then used the watercolors underneath the pencil lines of the drawing in different ways to ‘color’ it in gimp.

Never give up, never surrender.
