Is Star Wars '77 3.0 coming out soon?

In the livestream he said it will be a while till he gets to it.

So, to clarify, Harmy hasn’t released 4k versions of ANH and ESB, correct? I dl’d his blu-rays ages ago, haven’t done any of the updated versions. I’m definitely interested in 4k versions from Harmy.

Thanks Harmy for all that you bring to the SW fandom! You are God among men! 😃

Does Lucas receive any royalties for characters he created?

There is no way they paid four billion without taking total control. If I had to speculate on the killing-off of characters, it would be more toward the actors of the OT being 70 years old or at least crowding it. They’re bringing back The Emperor, so I would think that would largely dispel the royalties argument. I don’t follow every branch of the Star Wars tree, so there may be some I don’t know.

I 100% agree! I thought the idea of them killing characters to prevent paying Lucas more money seemed like complete B.S. However, I’ve seen this comment posted on multiple sites.

I see a lot of people stating that Disney is killing off characters to avoid paying Lucas “royalties” for those characters. How can this be true? My guess is that its not. I’m pretty sure Disney 100% OWNS any/all characters in the Star Wars universe. I can’t believe they spent over 4 Billion Dollars only to “NOT” own these characters.

So what’s the deal? I think Disney killing characters is boils down to their incompetent writing, not the fact that it’s done to screw over GL receiving more money.

Yeah.. the Hutts are bad mo-fo's not to be messed with!!  You can however STEP on them in front of their toughest enforcers and have no repercussions!!

I think they should do a Special Edition of THE GODFATHER... have someone 'bitch slap' Corleone in front of his boys and have him YELP and have his eyes bug out of his head like a Tex Avery cartoon!  Then of course round up every copy of the classic film as it 'previously existed' since clearly it was an unfinished film in 1972 and destroy them!!!  No historical preservations of that horrendous movie from the '70's!!  That would ROCK!!

Star Wars in 50 years.
Time

Well, the Wizard of Oz movie has been around for over 70 years and I think its just as fondly enjoyed now as it ever was.  It certainly has had more and more merchandising over the years and is still a very lucrative franchise.  I remember growing up in the 1970's we only had 3 network channels and the Wizard of Oz was shown once a year on television.  That was it.  It was something to look forward to yearly.  Then came cable, vcr's, dvd players, blu-ray players, etc.  It has managed to stand the test of time and also managed to be preserved in every format that its been available in.  Who would've thought that 70+ years later you could own a digital copy (blu-ray) in such a gorgeous Hi-Def image of a film that old!!??

The biggest difference between that and Star Wars is the people that own the Wizard of Oz cares about that film... it is a piece of art, a piece of history.  I have a great-niece now that is 3 years old and watches the dvd around the clock!  She's as thrilled to be watching that movie now as her parents were before her (and their parents before them).  It's timeless... classic!  Star Wars unfortunately has been bastardized, re-done, and re-done again (which is fine, but not at the expense of losing the original film).  After Lucas is finally done re-doing these films for the Xth time, the films may still carry on a legacy, but sadly those up-and-coming fans won't be able to enjoy them for what they were.  I'm sure with the technology out there, the Wizard of Oz could become a true wonder to behold, with realistic CGI'd flying monkeys and a witch that makes you believe a broom can fly!!  With all of that being done, would they really have to make the original film unavailable?  No!!  But as the Great and Powerful Lucas has proven.... there is no reasoning with that man.  Sad really.  There's nothing stopping him from releasing our beloved OOT, other than stubborness.  Not money, not resources, not logic..... just stubborness.

Perhaps George would see the light of day if the monkeys got CGI'ed and all copies of the OZ that we know were destroyed.  Or if Gone With The Wind had CGI'ed fires and Gable was replaced with George Clooney because he was closer to the look of what the writer/director had truly envisioned.  And of course all current copies of the original film would need to be destroyed as there's no way someone could enjoy the old versions since we have these shiny new versions to watch.  Would Mr. Lucas have the ability to acknowledge how wrong all of this would be?  I'm sure other directors/writers/etc would definitely voice their opinions on the matter.  Bottom line is.. He's a poor little rich kid with minimal (writing and directing) talent, but lots of resources (toys) at his disposal.  He appears to be incapable of creating something new that will ever garner the 'greatness' and spectacle that was the original star wars franchise.  So he chooses to keep tinkering with them and gives everyone a razzy that has the guts to state how wrong he is and shows no concern for the genuine fans that prove time and time again that we will buy the product if given the chance to!

Think I got a little sidetracked here..sorry.  To answer the initial question... I think there will always be Star Wars fans, but in 50 years instead of it being remembered as the 'classic' story that it deserves to be, sitting next to other great films of time, it'll be remembered as that 'work in progress' film the George never could get right..... It's sad really.

I have all of the films in every format released... they sit on my shelf and have occassionally been played.  But Star Wars for me stopped being fun a long time ago and is best seen when playing in my head as the great films I remembered and not the artificial toys that Mr Lucas keeps tinkering with.  I just don't care anymore.  I don't agree with the posters who say "he raped my childhood" though.  He didn't take anything away from my memories.. they are still there.  And I'll always remember them fondly.  If he takes away my ability to watch them currently the way I want to see them, there's thousands of other shows and movies that I can watch and also spend my money on.  I'll never lose any sleep over it.  He just went from being 'that guy who created this wonderful world for us" to "that idiot that screwed up the films I loved dearly and could care less".  And to the fanboys that will eat up any-and-everything George puts out, all I can say is enjoy it.  I won't judge you, don't judge me.  I think the Prequels are some of the worst films EVER made... mostly pretty eye candy with ZERO substance, horrible acting, HORRENDOUS dialog, and overall uninteresting storytelling.  If you love it.. great!  Enjoy.  :)

Have I ranted enough?  Sorry....

UPDATE:  Ran the new pars, still says I need 126 blocks.  When you look through the list within Quickpar it shows the green 'page' icons for each piece, but the same ones that I mentioned before show as yellow.  Then if I try to open the RAR file it still gives the errors that parts 001, 004, 005, and 007 are incomplete.

I signed up with a newsgroup provider for a month specifically to pull these movies down.  I'd really like to be able to resolve it soon.  Any other suggestions?

The files are definitely corrupted at this point beyond repair, even with the newer/larger PAR2 sets.  I've downloaded everything on 2 different news servers just to make sure, and both times I had results exactly like yours.

I know they're huge files, but it would be great if someone could reupload them (the 3 original trilogy movies).

Thanks!

If someone could re-upload these, that would be awesome.  My newsgroup access will be going away soon. Kinda sucks that I paid for it just to pick up these movies and now I can't get them.  Is there anyone out there that could assist us?

Thanks!  Rick

Did you try the following?

use : www.binsearch.info

type : Star.Wars.Return.Of.The.Jedi.PROPER.REISSUE

look for :

New Pars for ROTJ Proper Reissue [02/10] - "Star.Wars.Return.Of.The.Jedi.PROPER.REISSUE.Bluray.Format.1080P.vol00 0+001.PAR2" yEnc (1/60)
collection size: 4.04 GB, parts available: 16867 / 16868
- 9 par2 files

and :

New Pars for ROTJ Proper Reissue [01/10] - "Star.Wars.Return.Of.The.Jedi.PROPER.REISSUE.Bluray.Format.1080P.par2" yEnc (1/1)

The above par set is different then the one included in the original posting, so what i remember is that i put it all in one directory and let quickpar do it's work (this took some hours but i worked out!)

I hope i have helped you out, if so please mention it here so that if someone else gas the same problem it's fixed for them also!

WKR,

8t88

Thanks 8T88 (and all who have posted back to me).  I'm trying this option now.  Hope it works.  However, I noticed that of the files it's currently downloading, one of them is already showing that 'broken page' icon.  Hope it will go through ok.  Will post an update once I've finished.

Hey Adywan.. yes, all of the pars were in the same folder as the rar files.  Wasn't successful with that.  Then when I was given the links to the new par files, I temporarily moved the original pars, and put the new ones into the same directory and ran those.  Same result.  I'm at a loss.  I've downloaded these files twice now.  That's a lot of gigs to download multiple times.  Not sure what else to do.

Thanks Hardware Hank, but that didn't fix it.  The problem is with that one file.  I just looked through all of the downloaded files and that one is missing.  The file is:

Star.Wars.Return.Of.The.Jedi.PROPER.REISSUE.Bluray.Format.1080P.part269.rar

So, I just marked that one file for re-downloading it.  I still get the same errors when opening the RAR.  When I run it through QuickPar it tells me that I need 118 more blocks.

Is there anyway that the missing/broken rar can be re-uploaded or can someone send me the file??

Thanks again everyone!!  Rick

Thanks for the info.  I'm really hoping to get WG's BD-50 set though.  If anyone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it.  I'm guessing the problem I'm having is with that one rar that I mentioned above.  I've now finished downloading ALL of the files a second time and still have the same problem.....  ANH and ESB were fine, just can't get ROTJ to work.

For anyone finding this post in the future I have posted a rar file to the newsgroups Aug 24, 2009 called "Wookie Groomer Star Wars Trilogy NZB Archive.rar" it contains the 3 nzb files needed to grab the correct final versions without any confusion. Also posted are the raw nzb files ready to drag and drop:

Wookie.Groomer.Star.Wars.Episode.IV.A.New.Hope.2009.Bluray.Edition.nzb

Wookie.Groomer.Star.Wars.Episode.V.The.Empire.Strikes.Back.2009.Bluray.Edition.nzb

Wookie.Groomer.Star.Wars.Episode.VI.Return.of.the.Jedi.2009.Bluray.Edition.nzb

Most quality newshosts have a file retention of nearly a year or even longer.

Hey All... is there a list of NZB files for the 50GB Prequel films (like the ones above that WG provided for the Original Trilogy).  Just finished downloading the original trilogy and watched ANH.  Looks great!  Looking forward to picking up the OT's in 50GB files.

EDIT:  On another note, I just went to extract the ROTJ 50GB set and I'm getting errors from WinRAR.  Error:

Thanks!  Rick

So... I decided to re-download the entire thing after not getting it to work.  I'm still in the process of downloading all of the files.  Idid notice something strange with one of the files in the set.  The newsgroup reader that I'm using shows an icon that looks like a "broken page" for the following: "Star.Wars.Return.Of.The.Jedi.PROPER.REISSUE.Bluray.Format.1080P.part269.rar" (*/401)

I'm guessing that's the culprit?  I'm a total noob when it comes to using newsgroups.  Is there anyone that can help me out with this issue?  Thanks!

I was attempting to follow Ady's recommendation on how to fix the problem with Ep IV, but may need a little assistance.  I've never used BeSweet before... just downloaded and installed it but I'm having a little trouble following the step-by-step guide of Ady's.  If someone could maybe post (or point me to) a screenshot/tutorial on how to fix this I'd be most greatful.  Looking forward to watching this disc!!

THE STAR WARS SAGA - 1080P AVCHD DVD-9 for PS3 & Blu-Ray players - Episodes 1, 4 & 5 available now

Just went back a couple of pages and found the following from Ady:

Download TSMuxer. Load the .m2ts file into it. untick the main video file and select demux to demux all the audio tracks. Once this is done retick the video file and remove all the other tracks (subs too i'm afraid). keep TSMuxer open.

Now you'll need Besweet to import the audio tracks into to convert them to 23.976fps. load each audio file into besweet individually and select ac3 as the output. Now for the 5.1 track you need to click on the "ac3 & ogg" tab. change the bitrate to 640 and click back on the besweet tab. now tick "change framerate" and input 24000 into the first box and 23976 into the second. now output your 5.1 audio track. now for the 2 other audio tracks do the same as above but change the bitrate to 192.

Now you have your new audio tracks import them all back into TSMuxer. Make sure that the 5.1 track is the first audio track in the list below the video file. Now click on the video stream to highlight it. Tick the "change fps" box and change the value to "24000/1001". This will just change the header in the video to play at 23.976fps and doesn't add or remove any frames. Now select "create bluray" as the output and create your folders. Once this is done open imgburn and import both the BDMV & Certificate folders and change the udf file system to 2.50 and burn. everything else should be done automatically by Imgburn.

Hope this helps

Will try it in the next day or two and see if it corrects the issue.  Thanks again!!

Rick

Cool.. will go back through the thread and see what I can find.  If you have a good fix for it, I'd love to hear it.  Thanks!!

I've processed more than 75 blu-ray's to AVCHD discs on DVD+R DL's and never had a problem playing back any of them.  Could it be the framerate of this disc perhaps?  I have a PS3 that I'll try it on later to see if I have the same problem.

Thanks,

Go back a few pages in this thread and you'll see that others have had problems with EpIV on the S350. I was eventually able to fix it thanks to the input of some members here.

I don't know if this has been posted but I thought I'd pass in on-if anybody has had problems playing back the achhd versions of SW 4 & 5 on their bluray players here's the scoop. The iso images that can be downloaded  are actually bluray on dvd-not achvd. What I did was mount the iso image useing Daemon tools, then open it and go to the stream folder and open that to get to the m2ts stream-now using a tool called multiAVHCD you can make a fully avhcd compliant folder to burn to a dvd dl blank using imageburn (2.5 udf)-as an alternative you can edit the iso image. Most bluray players won't play bluray on dvd. I hope this helps.

Dunno if the info is accurate, but it's an easy fix to try.

Got it in the mail yesterday. The BRICK movie was cute... kinda funny. The trailers for the original trilogy look like "cleaned up" versions of the old trailers that were on the Definitive Laserdisc Collection. I'd have to go back and watch those to compare them, but the ones on the dvd are definitely cleaner and are original commercials (not trailers for the special editions). -Rick
