Universal corrected this. They issued replacement discs.

Yea after like two tries, first try was a different coded disk but used the same downmix, the second corrected disk has the true mono track

I once came across a 35mm scan that had the original mono mix, but the print it came from had a different framerate and had numerous jumps in cuts/missing frames.

Having only listened to the mono audio from the 2005 DVD, which also has its setbacks, makes me wish the laserdisc version gets the preservation it deserves and synced up with the latest releases (and to hear it for myself 🙃).

This is interesting.

When I watched the film for myself, I struggled to understand what made the film so reverred by others.
Whether it was the workprint or the FC, I just found myself feeling nothing by the end.
This made me want to see if there are such fan edits that could bring life into this film.
And this one looks and sounds promising.

It’s available at another famous forum for the star wars trilogy. I don’t have the mono mix I could share, and the current one I have I can’t share until I finish v3.0 of my project which is on hold. No need to be so pushy btw, that’s not a way to get anything done.
