Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Harmy when he finds another encoding glitch:

[nevermind, the flipping-over-a-table ascii didnt seem to work]

JK! Very exciting! Can't wait to have a movie night with this one!! Just had a nice little discussion about OT vs SE the other night, my family was already "in the know" and cant wait for a good close-to-OT viewing of SW!

Wow! A real home theatre! Can't wait to see the photos. And... audience as a plus?

(Sorry for off-topic) Yeah, I think I could include a couple audience shots. I've talked at length with a few of my wife's uncles (movie night regulars) and they love the idea of a 'theatrical' Star Wars movie viewing.

We don't have stadium seating (yet?). Couch can seat 4, LoveSac 2-3, we have some comfortable (believe it or not) cushioned folding chairs for 4-6 people. Usually about 10-12 people come to movie night, last weekend we watched Alien.. good times.

What's the format going to be for version 2.0? 720p AVCHD again? How easy will it be to burn it to Blu Ray?

I believe Harmy said he was also considering doing a higher bitrate version possibly with a menu for BD-25s in addition to the 720p AVCHD. In any case, either should be very easy to burn to a BD-R, provided you have blanks and a burner.

I would LOVE a BD-25 version of this, give the encode a little more room to breathe than the ~8 gigs you get with DVD9.. Can't wait for v2.0 to get released, I'll have to post pics of movie night when we watch it! (130" 2.35 screen and Epson 8350 projector :) )

Are the audio tracks going to be the same as 1.0?

dark_jedi,

Have you seen Harmy's 720p versions? How would you say your BluRays stack up with his version, video-wise?

I'm sure Harmy and DJ are best equipped to answer this, but isn't this comparison like between apples and oranges? I mean the source of the two are completely/totally different. One tries to modernise an old source, while the other works from the other direction.. no?

I don't know if it's really apples-to-oranges; I get what you're saying, but they're both 720p versions of the Original Trilogy, regardless of how they got there. Sure, Harmy left some changes in, so its not unaltered and you can't compare frame by frame. I'm wondering how DJ (or anyone that has seen them) feels his Blu Ray versions stack up. I was always under the impression that it doesn't really help going from 480p to 720p, as no detail is/can be gained by simply upconverting.. Maybe I'm wrong. Just wondering :)

But you do have a point about the younger generation.  Most don't give a carp about ANY sort of history.

I don't give a carp about anything! I actually hate carp, it tastes like mud from the bottom of a lake (and I would know, since it's sadly a part of traditional Czech Christmas dinner).

But seriously, I'm also part of the "young" generation (I'm 23) and I do give a crap. I saw the SEs of ESB and ROTJ before I ever saw the originals but I gradually realized how much more interesting the OOT versions were and later even how crap some of the SE changes were.

SW wasn't very big in the Czech Republic before 97, so it was quite a quest to even find the originals on VHS, so I've been on a look out for a better quality version of the OOT for ages.

I'm 25 and I will literally never watch the original trilogy in a (seriously) altered form again, if I can help it (I'm very conflicted about the 3D re-release to theaters). If Lucas wasn't so bullheaded about his "vision" and gave us a decent version of the UOT, I would buy the BluRay set in an instant. Sadly, he will not be getting any of my money for this mockery of the older SW movies.

There may be an influx of new members in this thread in the coming days from Reddit...which may or may not be my fault, due to the fact that I may or may not have posted a link to this thread there...

*whistles casually while slowly backing away*

What is Reddit....?

and it is funny, I have given out over 75 invites in the past several days between the new members and here and the members at tehparadox it seems like, which is cool.

www.reddit.com. It's just a news aggregator type site (think digg) but a little more organized and very community driven. I've posted links to here whenever there's a discussion, and even started a thread, but it didn't really get too popular. Oh well, people love to complain about the changes but don't do anything  other than complain about it and buy it anyways lol  (not that I do much more than download the work of others, but still)

Well, just got past taking a good hard look at all three BDs myself, and while I don't own a surround sound system (yet), I can definitely vouch for the picture quality. It is unlike anything Star-Wars related I have ever seen before.

If my Star Wars Complete Saga box arrives, I can damn well guarantee you I will take this set over HD pink sabers any day.

Even coming straight from my television, rather than a sound system, the audio is still noticeably better than any other DVD release, and comes pretty damn close to ordinary run-of-the-mill BD audio master tracks.

I'm not going to go in extreme detail, since so many have done this before me. I can only say I totally approve their reviews, and embrace this set wholeheartedly.

These are keepers. Fine job DJ, damn fine job.

Any chance anyone who has received a copy could upload it or do something to redistribute it? With DJ's permission, of course, he said he's too busy to burn BRs for people, or to upload it to MySpleen. Anyone that receive a copy already care to push it out to the rest of us?

LOL, I do not have a ton of blank BD's lying around to burn every single person that PM's me a Set, I was busy at the time of your PM working on Conan and Night of The Living Dead, now those are done, I have also politely asked that the people that donated blanks do NOT get bothered by this kind of request, it is NOT their responsibility to share this Set, that is why they donated blanks, either they do not have burners themselves, or do not have the ability to download 75+ GB's, or both, or neither, it is a bonus for them for their donation and being the final testers, but the point is, I WILL upload\share them when I am ready, I am still trying to figure out the best way to do this, just like with the kind people that donated blank DL DVD's for the V3 DVD Set, they did not have to do any kind of sharing either, it was their bonus for doing what they did and being final testers, and they eventually made there way out to the masses.

So no offense, but this kind of request really bothers me.

Looking at your profile, it looks like you just joined 10 days ago and have only made 2 posts, so what is wrong with a little patience?

Okay, I apologize. I took your reply to me as saying that you were involved in other projects that were as involved as SW is/was so you wouldn't realyl be available for the foreseeable future (as you've been working on this since, what, 2009?) but I see your point and I'll just be patient. I've been lurking for a lot longer than 10 days but just recently put together a home theater worthy of firing up the OT version of the trilogy and got a bit excited, that's all. I'll just be patient now.
