If you aren't already on it, might I suggest a change and re-scan. You might be able to get most of your missing parts then.

Hi Sterntrooper,

I'm glad you did sign up, as lately I've been d/l what I can from Virgin then getting the rest of the incompletes/etc via Astraweb - using some resources I'd rather keep for groups which are not on VM's server list.

This explains a lot - I just thought they were having some kind of issues (which wouldn't have surprised me either).

Thanks again!

cbaka,

I don't know who provides your Usenet access - however I had the same problem going through my ISP's (Virgin Media) newsgroup access. But on checking through Astraweb - who I also use (pre-pay) and the files are there.

So you may need to try another Usenet provider.....

I had tried different NZB files as found on newzleech.com and binsearch.info but none yielded all of the RAR files in one batch, so I pulled some files from newsgroups manually and created a composite RAR/PAR archive to try to extract from to no avail. I just ran SuperNZB's PAR tool on one of the PAR files, and it told me that I needed 1500 more recovery blocks!

Do I simply need to post a request for more PARs?

I think the issue may be that it's been posted approx 119 days ago - I don't know who you are using just now - is it still Astraweb? They're retention is 120+ days, so it's right on the borderline.

I really don't think more Pars would help, as there's a hell of a lot of blocks missing by the looks of things. What you need is for it to be re-posted, either that or try downloading again via a different usenet provider?

Stevie.

Lets say your folder is C:\Star Wars Revisited-Adywan-XviD

Now you can open the torrent file and download as usual. When asked where you want to download select "C:"
It will then detect that it's already downloaded, and will start seeding.

If you need me to be more specific feel free to PM me.

Great stuff NormanS - that's me joined in with the uploading too - @ 60kB/s.

Haven't had a chance yet to view - but will be doing so very soon. Can't wait!

Fantastic stuff once again Adywan!

Molly,

I've almost got this fully downloaded from a.b.starwars - so can you tell me how I go about joining in with seeding the torrent?

Absolutely fantastic news Adywan! Haven't been posting in your thread 'til now - but have been keeping tabs on this as often as possible.

As everyone else says you have done an absolutely tremendous amount of work (if the whole movie is to the standards of the previews you have been releasing!) and you most deservedly need to take a break from this, sit back and watch the positive comments roll in!

Many congratulations to you - a prince among men - with the selfless hours you've put in here!

Marco

Marco - do you have newsgroup access too? If you can download it via a.b.starwars then post it to myspleen then if you let me know how it can be done, I will join in with the seeding as soon as I get it down from the newsgroup.

Let's get this baby out there quick sharp!

Maybe you already know - but just in case you don't, the RAR's are the files which contain the file/s you require - just zipped up. The Par files are used to rebuild any damaged or missing files from the batch. I use Quickpar which can be downloaded from http://www.quickpar.org.uk

I've tried the a.b.hdtv.x264 group, but I haven't had any luck obtaining the 1080p ESIR version of Episode III; the 1080p-hv version wasn't available in the thread either.

It's definitely there - again just go to 'advanced search' and search for 'star wars esir', and it should pop up - it's the only one there. 32 days old.

I've also looked in a.b.starwars and a.tv.tech.hdtv. Comcast's retention is supposed to be up to 90 days for binary. I was able to locate the listings for all of the pieces for the "ESIR" file which Adywan was nice enough to point me to, but the NZB found no available files in a.b.hdtx.x264 to download. The movie is only 32 days old according to www.binsearch.info. So far, Comcast and Usenet servers have shown no more than 12 days of content in GrabIt!, and only 15 days via Usenet in Xnews.

Yip - 32 days old is the file I've found. 12 days of retention isn't very good I'm afraid if that's all they're offering, you might be better having a look at Astraweb (which has 122+ days retention) or another provider, and pay a minimal amount for a 'Pay As You Go' service...

Again - hope this is helpful.

I was hoping to have my edit completed by the end of this month.

The newsgroups are very easy to navigate/use once you get used to it - I never used to use them until about a year ago. Before then it was Bittorrent, and before that eMule and such stuff. I found it a bit weird at the beginning too - but don't worry it will all become clear to you in a very short space of time. All the best for your edit!

I've got the a.b. correct, but when I "get new message bodies" and have let it build for a while, I can't seem to get to the actual messages. Have I overloaded ny system with the 2 million messages that the service has retrieved?

I used to download the headers, but have since stopped this now, as it more often that not seems a pointless task. What I do instead - and I think this should benefit you too - is to visit http://www.binsearch.info and have a look what it has to offer. You can either browse the newsgroups themselves, or indeed if you know what you are looking for then have a search.

In your case - go to the 'advanced search' and select and type hdtv.x264 into the 'newsgroup' field - which should then let you select the group to be searched. Now type Star Wars as the query to be searched, and maybe set the 'maximum age of post' to about 70 days or so. And Voila you will find all the Star Wars HD rips listed. Download and run the .nzb file for the one you wish.

The only prob with this is whether your ISP allows newsgroup access, and if so what groups and how long the retention is. I use Astraweb (http://news.astraweb.com) which allows me to purchase 90GB of downloads for $25 - (approx £13) and this normally lasts me a while as it's a pay by download plan. Their retention is currently 122+ days.

I use Grabit as my newsreader - this does the job (for me) perfectly - it's also free and is available to download from http://www.shemes.com

I hope this possibly helps!

Info: Star Wars Executor Boxset VHS (1995)
Time
Right - I've done a quick transfer of 'From Star Wars To Jedi' to my standalone recorder. Had a quick look at the VHS as it was copying - doesn't look as though the VHS is the nicest source material I've ever seen. This has been recorded in 3 hour mode - and (I think) for the quality of the source, and being recorded in 3 hour mode that the quality isn't too bad.

If anyone can be bothered, then please have a look and let me know what you think. I have posted a 1 minute sample at YouSendIt - filesize is 20MB. Clip can be found here - http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2LP6YKIBB28G2233HQO4U3K6V3

Oops! Any ideas on how I would go about changing my username? Wouldn't want to go stepping on anyone's toes just as I've arrived at the party...

Thanks for the welcome guys - I've opened the tape now anyway, so I think I'll have a go recording it - just to see what it's like. If you wish, I'll maybe try posting a sample up later.

Long time listener - first time caller!

Let me say first of all guys - what a tremendous job you are all doing with the Fan edits, etc. My goodness there is just so much coming out in the Star Wars universe right now - and I don't mean the official goods (thank the lord!)

Anyways, as I have taken so much from the forum already - I'd like to give a bit back, if I can.

I recently acquired the Executor box-set via eBay - yes, this is a used set, HOWEVER - None of the VHS cassettes have been opened - and I mean NONE of them. They are all still sealed! I wasn't gonna open the videos originally - however, if it is of interest to you guys then I will definitley open them to see how they transfer to DVD.

These tapes are UK PAL format - which I believe you may be looking for?

I dunno if my transferring method would be ideal for you or not - but I have some really nice results when transferring some VHS tapes to DVD already. I would be transferring them straight from the VHS onto a standalone Liteon LVW 5005B DVD Recorder. I would only transfer in either 1, 2, or 3 hour mode - I wouldn't go beyond these times as it can pixelate pretty badly after this point.

Any takers for this - just let me know if you'd like me to have a go at transferring these, and I can see how they come out.

Cheers,

Rebel Scum.
