Live-Action Akira Confirmed Already for 2009!

Newest rumor: Trent Reznor to score Akira....

On the one hand, Trent Reznor annoys the hell outta me, NIN is about as overrated a band as they come and most of their fans make me want to strangle someone.

On the other hand, Trent Reznor did the score for the original Quake, and it was among the most brilliant video game soundtracks I've ever been witness to.

Basically, I'm on the fence over this tidbit until I actually hear it.

Why do PT defenders and such keep claiming the OT was badly written as well ?!
Time
People say that?

I like the prequels, and my usual response to anyone who gives me shit about it is never "well, the OT sucked too"... my response is "fuck you, I'll give a damn what you think when you think like I do". I'm a real teddy-bear that way.

I have never heard anyone defend their like of the prequels by bashing the OT. (I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm just saying that in my years of Star Wars fandom, I've never once heard that.) I'd pretty much have to slap anyone that said that. I mean, like whatever you want, but don't try to elevate it beyond what it is. I loved the Doom movie, but I'm not going to try to butter it up as anything other than an intellectually-vapid action flick.

Yes! This is shaping up to be a pretty decent little cast of characters. Do we have anyothers? I think I shall be Cautious Carl and not say anything about this film. I have never seen the original anime (or any other anime film for that matter), seems like a lot of people have though. Perhaps I should consider the possibility of maybe considering giving this a rent sometime. The question is, is it that good of a film that somebody who is not into anime (it is not that I have anything against anime, it has just never struck me as anything interesting. Most of what I have seen on TV while channel surfing has always seemed pretty teeny bopper) might enjoy it? Anime like this are considered mature films for adults in Japan, right? (I don't mean "mature" or "adult" in the pornographic sense, but in the sense that it might not be odd to see people over the age of 25 buying tickets to see it) Perhaps I should broaden my horizons and watch a few of these kinds of films.

I'll be Informative Ike for a moment and break down anime for you.

It sucks.

There's some good stuff out there, yes, and even some stuff that is bad, but is bad on purpose, so is good (Ping Pong Club springs to mind). But most of it is pure crap. If you want good anime, look to Akira, Ghost in the Shell (the movie, the series just isn't working for me), Grave of the Fireflies, The Wings of Honneamise and things like that. The trick is to watch good anime as a good movie, not as anime. That's the thing, good movies are good movies regardless of where they are from or how they are presented.

I'm going to be a Realistic Regina and agree with lordjedi on this one. This movie is going to bite, and it's going to bite hard.

And on that note, I think I'm going to saunter over to my entertainment center and watch Akira again before mainstream society barges into my memories and has their non-lubricated way with them.

Um, Starcraft had a good single player mode, but it hasn't lasted 8 years on that mode alone, I assure you! Multiplayer was the original game's life's blood, just like any good RTS.

Don't remind me... I'm convinced I've lost precious years off of my life due to the lack of sleep caused by weekend Starcraft LAN-party benders.

Why would a world of Starcraft suck?

Best as I could understand from that response was that they think “World of Starcraft” would bite because the original was a single player game and an MMO would not be.

Which begs the question: Do they know there was just “Warcraft” long before there was a "World of"?

And there was a reference to some press release I guess, which I must never have read (nor would I have been looking for it for that matter), that I guess they must think we got the idea for a “World of Starcraft”. Personally, I think the idea for “World of Starcraft” simultaneously popped into a million people's heads the second ”World of Warcraft” was announced.

That wasn't a press release by blizzard, it was by vivendi, their parent company. The whole "all our games will be mmog" was about vivendi's games, not blizzards. Blizzard has said as much in a recent release.

Well, I went ahead and started doing a recreation of the cover in case the guy never pops back in...

I'll keep in touch.

Ooooo... that Ocean's 11 cover looks nice. Finally I might start the process of replacing all my lame printed-cardboard DVD keep cases. Those things make Rebel Rouser cry sad, sad rockabilly tears of grief. Or something.
