If people really want it, I can upload a copy of the timecode print. (To clarify, the TC print was a 700MB DivX5 compressed version of the X0 transfer with burned-in timecode and we used it as a reference.)

Yes! That would be cool! Please do!

Also glad to read about the lossless captures (but sad that I could never DL any that size, at least not within the a year or two). :O

Sorry for dropping off the map the last couple of weeks. My internet went down at home and my modem still isn't working. I'm actually posting from a Kinko's right now because my cable modem is currently running at the blazing fast speed of about 56K. :| (January 19, 2011)

Anyone in contact with Zion knows if his computer situation has improved? Maybe someone can help him?

... that will allow us to combine the LD captures together (XØ and Japanese DefCol) that I spent hours pouring over, manually IVTCing, matching up frame for frame, and noting where any and all frame differences occured. (January 7, 2011)

Zion, hope you can get to the "display" these LD backups at your very earliest convenience (it's "pins & needles" for all us). ;)

BTW, exactly what caps have-you/will-you put up? All the caps referred to in your quote above? Hopefully individually? Including work done by you and/or colleagues (text notes, data files, etc.)? Any additional info is appreciated.

I'm not really a torrent guy, but anyone is welcome to do that once it's uploaded to usenet. (January 19, 2011)

Great news, Zion! Thanks for "displaying" step one of The XØ Project for all us SW laserdisc owners. (I'm glad I check back here yearly.) :)

Has anyone *noticed* these backups on some rapidly-sharing site (it's all that works for me)?

Should the mods just lock this thread?

Why does everyone suggest that?

It's not "everyone".  I've noticed it's the same, small handful who constantly spam this thread with that message as each occasion arises.

Dear spammers, you may "lock this thread" anytime you like ... simply stop reading it.  The rest of us are still interested and will continue to discuss the XØ Project and, yes, get updates from the author(s).

I, also, second the motion to stay on topic (the XØ Project topic).

And so, back to the topic ...

Hey, guys. I'm still around. ...

Thanks for the update and happy to hear you're still on The XØ Project (even with it's obvious change of focus).

Those of us who have the laser disc sets might want a plain backup or transfer to view through our alternate devices. Apart from the XØ restoration proper, can anything be done in this regard?

By the way...anyone know of a quick way to archive a whole website?

Perhaps a spider? Try Teleport Pro at http://www.tenmax.com/teleport/pro/home.htm . It's shareware and "fully functional (but capacity-limited)". It'll crawl through every link and grab every page (and you can specify multiple pages for dead-end retrievals). If everything is nicely organized (or if you're clever), you can break the retrievals into smaller pieces and use the shareware to do the entire job. ;)

BTW, great job on the restoration (and thanks for the updates)!

For what it's worth. I am still willing to finish the X0 Project. However, I've not heard anything from Zion on our private board since July 13th, and his last post here was August 6, 2008.

Thanks for the info MBJ! What about:

* who determines whether The XØ Project moves ahead (or, for that matter, who must pronounce that it is ended)?

* assuming the project has been "effectively abandon", what can be done to make it's resources accessible to our interested parties here? At the very least, I'm sure many of us would like details on the techniques you guys used (that is, beyond the generalities posted here).

* can you give us a practical update of the project's progress (before you lost contact)?
