As we all know, the prequel trilogy was kind off disappointing. The Phantom Menace gave us 9 year old Anakin, Jar Jar and a story that felt disconnected from the other 2 (even though Maul was freaking awesome). Attack of the Clones had an irritating Anakin, weird romance and some confusing (Kamino and whole Syfo Dyas thing) or disappoiting (don’t know about you guys, but I really disliked how Anakin and Owen Lars met) plot points. In the end, the only prequel that gave us the things we wanted to see - the Clone Wars in full scale, Anakin as a hero and becoming darker, Darth Vader, Palpatine’s manipulations, etc - was Revenge of the Sith. So, instead of making another 3-1 edit, I thought that maybe Revenge of the Sith had everything we needed from Anakin’s story. So, the fan edit I made tries to make ROTS work as a standalone experience, hoping it gives us what we wanted to see without having to watch boring padawan Anakin to understand the full thing. The base material for this edit was Hal900 Labyrinth of Evil, who made a really great work with the movie! The list of changes I made are:

• New logo.
• New starting crawl (letters are red, heavily inspired by the Ahsoka crawl, couldn’t justify because I edited in Premiere Pro, put the Imperial March), trying to give us a full context of the Sith, the clone army and the war.
• Cut the reference about Anakin’s mother and the sand people after Dooku’s duel to work as a standalone (we don’t really need Anakin’s full backstory for the story to work). However, kept scenes about former duels between Anakin and Dooku so the audience learns they have a backstory. Also kept Palpatine’s line “He cut off your arm, you wanted revenge” because I thought it worked, but I’m not sure - you guys can tell me after you watch it.
• Cut Anakin’s line about the Outer Rim sieges to Padme. In my edit, it’s never stated that Padmé and Anakin are hiding their relationship (it works for those who know and for those who haven’t watched).
• Cut any reference about the chosen one prophecy - edited Mace and Kenobi’s dialogue in the helicopter, and also, unfortunately, had to cut out “YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE” so it works for the purpose of the edit.
• Cut the line “in my point of view the Jedi are evil”, just because I really dislike it.
• Cut the twins names - This might be weird, but I made it so it works for those who haven’t watched A New Hope and also for those who are watching in the Machete Order or who have already seen the OT.
• Edited the dialogue with Obi Wan, Yoda and Bail about the fate of the twins so it doesn’t show Yoda talking about “Anakin’s family in Tatooine” since we don’t know abou them in this edit.
• Ended the edit with Vader being born, with a final shot of his mask and his first iconic breath.
• Added a new song to the credits (Emotional version of the Imperial March - made by Samuel Kim Music, all credits to him)
• Added Leia going to Alderaan with Bail and Obi-Wan taking Luke to Tatooine as post credits scenes to give us a little tease of the OT. Didn’t show their names or Beru’s face.
• I’m using Labyritnh of Evil’s credits.

While watching the prequel trilogy, I always thought that Revenge of the Sith basically told us basically everything we needed to know from Anakin’s backstory and what’s been referenced in the OT - Anakin’s fall to the dark side, the Clone Wars, the creation of the Empire, etc. I also think that The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones aren’t nearly as enjoyable as Revenge of the Sith. So, if the third movie tells us everything we need to know from the prequels and it’s the best one, why not making it a standalone experience? That’s what been trying to do. I’m not a particularly skilled editor, so if you like this idea, feel free to make this project as well!

The basis for the edit is Hal900’s Labyrinth of Evil, because it already makes some great changes to the movie. The biggest issues are:

• Removing the Chosen one prophecy
• Setting up the Clone Wars (who are the Separatists, why is the Republic using clones, who are the Sith and what’s their role in all of this)
• Removing references to the other movies (Anakin’s mother, Qui-Gon, the sand people)
• Somehow - and that’s my biggest struggle - set up why Obi-Wan takes Luke to Tatooine. This one is hard because, without Attack of the Clones, Yoda’s line of “taking Luke to his family on Tatooine” don’t make sense.
• I think Padmé is introduced pretty well in this movie, and her expanded role in Labyrinth of Evil really helps that.
• Maybe including Obi-Wan’s scene with Luke in A New Hope for context.
• Rescoring the scenes after the cuts.
