Actually the only reason I haven’t posted anything about this project on this forum is because I didn’t know where to start with the description and updates, since project blew up in the proportions. But then here comes DZ-330 and actually condenses everything in a nice and meaningful way. Thank you!

I love the GI and tie fighter stuff that’s being worked on, and the creator of those clips already said he’d let me use them. That’s what I mean by a version 4. It would just be to incorporate that. I’m not going to wait for that to be done but would definitely add it in when they are finished.

I’d also be open to adding a crawl as an alternate version if there is demand. I personally don’t think it needs one.

I’m aiming for a before-Christmas release, so that we all have something to look forward to. Plus it’s a tradition for the past few years 😃

I saw it too. Some of it is interesting, but really nothing stands out much from the other edits on this forum. He added CG stormtrooper by the fire asking Vader if they shall proceed. It’s looking…okay, I guess, but the fire is CG as well so it doesn’t look as the rest of the shots.

Now, as someone who studied film editing (before turning to VFX), I was bothered by some musical choices in his edit.
I’m a visual guy, but I was “tortured” for three years on the academy by some really great sound editors, and I learned some things there which bother me now if I see someone not following the principles. For example DON’T fade in or out music 10 seconds before it’s actually needed. It’s distracting! Also DON’T change the music abruptly on cut with some other piece of music which doesn’t have the same tone or rhythm. And when you use music, it should have a meaningful beginning and the end.

As you guess it, none of those rules apply to that edit. And he used well known themes over some parts that have more weight in silence, so that took me out too.

Oh and speaking of music, there’s Bespin theme playing on Alderaan, which makes it seem out of place.

Overall, keep up the great work. Loving your edits and ideas. We don’t need tons of media coverage to create something great(er).

Hi everyone!
Since this is a general ideas thread, I’m posting here until I have something more to open my own.

So yeah, I’m going to do my own take on Kenobi theatrical cut. Still writing down the ideas and doing smaller scale tests, but will probably start working on the edit itself sometimes at the end of July. And it will be the one of Adywanic proportions!

Now, given that I have academical background in editing, but decided very early on to chase the career in VFX, this sounds like a perfect side project for me. Not to mention that SW inspired me to do what I do, and that in fact I did some visual effects for the upcoming Andor series. And please don’t get your hopes up for my editing skills, they’re a bit rusty after years of not doing anything on a larger scale.

For now I can present you with two tests:

1. For some reason I expected Vader to fly his own TIE fighter into the final duel. He’s going there for personal reasons, not so much for the official Imperial business. Plus we didn’t see live action TIE Advanced since '77.
   This is a single frame test, since I’m still working on the camera tracking (and that compression in the darkness doesn’t help at all!).

2. I like Rupert Friend’s performance as Grand Inquisitor, so much so I don’t mind that he doesn’t really look like Pau’an. But hey, why not fix it if we can, and bring it a bit closer to 2005 look of the species. I have a full video of it, and in motion in looks marvelous. Have to tweak the tracking on some frames, then I’ll upload it.

Are you talking about Anakin’s “dreams” from ROTS? If so, that was actually more of a Force vision that Anakin had more than a dream. That visual style should be separated from the dreams and nightmares visual style. So either leave it as is, or even better, create their own visual style.
Obi sensing Leia’s kidnapping is on a good track visually.

I know that not everybody is exactly on board with the Kenobi show, but it is what it is and it’s canon.
So, what about adding some burnt blasters next to the corpses of uncle Owen and aunt Beru? Just to give them a bit more satisfying end.
