Was George Lucas a trickster the whole time?

Im right there with ya GF. I dont really think Luca$ is a trickster, just an overrated, talentless shmo that got lucky and made lots of shrewd business decisions.  Personally I dont hold Luca$ in the same light as I did from 77'-99'.  I used to think the world of him.  For the past 13 years Ive learned the UOT to be a collaborative effort, but with Luca$ name on it.  Originally George just wanted to make a Flash Gordon film, when that was rejected, he cobbled a bunch of space characters/ideas around on paper, and with TONS of collaborative help and editing and direction from REAL creative minds, we got ANH in 77.  Years ago at TF.N we had a forum called the "bashers sanctuary", which was created at the time of TPM, for obvious reasons.  Its shut down now, but I do recall there being many articles posted on Luca$'s original unedited scripts for the OT.  They were as circus-bad as the writing for the prequals.  I find it a blessing that Luca$ had executives telling him what he can't do and honest colleagues standing up to his silly ideas.  All in all I dont think Luca$ a trickster, but I do think he has held a grudge against all the people REALLY responsible for making the UOT spectacular, and has gone to great lengths to change and distort the UOT in order to avoid paying royalties and to thumb his nose at them.

You must admit though, without George having the initial idea, and the talent as a director, those "REAL" creative minds would have nothing from which to be creative with. You can take a lot away from Lucas, but you can't take that away.

I watch whichever one is most convenient at the time. For instance, I am watching ESB Blu-Ray as I type this. But, as soon as I get a new VHS I am popping in the 1985 widescreens. I think it was '85 anyways...

Yep-----same me!

Although the 1st widescreen VHS's were released in 1991.

(i think it was available on laserdisc as early as 1987 in Japan and 1989 in the US)

Ah, that's right. Regardless! They're excellent, I still have the box they came in where they lay flt next to each other.... bunch of old Star Wars coupons in there too.

I was born in '91, but I've loved Star Wars since I've been able to cry. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing any Star Wars in theaters besides the Prequels which, and I apologize for this, is why I'm excited about them in 3D, so I can see them in theaters.

I get what someone (I forgot who) said each person has their own definition of what Star Wars means to them. Makes sense.

Born in 91' eh?

Could it be????

My long lost twin???? Oh joy! I am quite bereft with happiness!

What's this? Another "youngin" who knows nothing of "the glory years"? Rejoice!

George Lucas: Changes are not unusual — I mean, most movies when they release them they make changes.

Oh yeah George???

Name one.

Or better yet, name three.

Name the latest three movies that have been released that were 'changed'.

Let's see... Harry Potter 1-however many their are... umm, Avatar, hmmm.... Well, every movie ever. You do realize that by the time the original theatrical Star Wars movies had made it to home video they had already been altered by the publishing company, right? Riiight.

It is entirely atypical for movies to be altered from their theatrical release. If you can name 100 movies that have been altered, I can name you 10, 000 movies that have not.

Fair enough.

Damn, didn't mean to piss off so many people. In the past five seconds I've read that I don't love Star Wars, I am a troll, a former poster, and that I haven't read enough; though that last one is probably true.

What I meant to say was, my first impression of the forum has been people complaining. Every thread has just been "George Lucas takes a dump on Star Wars fans" or "What pissed you off most about Blu-Ray release and any SE?"

I'm the type of guy that can normally just take the changes with a grain of salt and say "oh fxcking well" and move on with my life. This alteration was a little bit much though. Despite the fact that Hayden had an awkward look of "Yeahhh, sorry about all that killing stuff..." on his face, it was just insincere. When I was little, I would cry when I saw Anakin at the end because he looked so peaceful, and so happy.

They should have done something with like, Hayden Christianson fading into the old-guy Anakin. That would have been an acceptable change in my books.

Speaking of which, is there any truth to Hayden Christensen's claim as to not knowing he was going to be edited into the end of "Jedi"; I read that some where

Hmm, not sure. I didn't hear that one. I did however hear that Hayden got all butthurt when someone made fun of him in some parody, and apparently actually called George Lucas to tell him lol. I think George just said something along the lines of "Get used to it."

But no, I didn't hear this rumor. Interesting thought, though, but it looks like it was filmed intentionally for that scene... so I feel like he would have had some idea of it.

I was talking with a bud about all the dumb things the Special Editions did or didn't do.  He mentioned that George should have fixed the shot of the Tusken Raider that was created by looping the footage back and forth as it was attacking Luke.

How hard would have been to go shoot footage of a guy in a suit in the backlot?

Hard enough that they did the same thing to Dud Bolt, the podracer guy, in Eps I
