Great movies you hate.
Time

Mulholland Drive (2001)

Years ago I’d slogged through Eraserhead, so I knew what I was getting into, but it didn’t make the viewing experience any easier. Most of the symbolism or meaning went right over my head, and after the movie was over I went online to see if I could make heads or tails of it. I found that Lynch had given clues to unraveling and understanding the movie. Problem was, I didn’t care. I don’t think that any understanding of what the movie was about is worth sitting through it again; just can’t see any possible way that something will click and I’ll suddenly go “Wow, that totally changes my perspective on this movie; it’s a masterpiece!” I’m so glad that I will never see this movie again.

Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring - Extended Edition - 4K Dremastered
Time

This looks to be my ultimate version of Fellowship. I’ve really enjoyed having 44rh1n’s version available, since it gave us the extended version without a break midway and with corrected colors, but this would replace it as it has a better source (his version used the theatrical blu-ray for all the non-extended scenes), making it a best of all possible worlds edition. Can’t wait!

Only Yesterday (1991)

I remember finding out about this Studio Ghibli film a year or two ago and was surprised I had never heard of it before. Finally watched it this week, and it is now one of my favorites from the studio. It does not have any fantastical elements like some of their most famous films, but its main character is very relatable and the slower pace still keeps you invested.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

I feel kind of dumb, but it wasn’t until after I’d seen Solo (twice!) that I realized that those two lights weren’t L3’s eyes:

L3

I think the reason for this is because in the brief glimpses we caught of her in the trailers, I latched onto the idea that those were her eyes and I could not unsee them. That or I had Wall-E’s robots on my mind

Info Wanted: Which trailers accompanied the actual Star Wars movies?
Time

Let’s see, for AotC I remember seeing trailers for Minority Report, Austin Powers in Goldmember, Men In Black II, Die Another Day, and Like Mike.

For RotS, I remember trailers for Mr and Mrs Smith, Batman Begins, The Island, and Fantastic Four.

I know I’m forgetting some but it’s been a while!

If you need to C*mplain about the CGI Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One... this is the place

Is it just me or is Gollum from LOTR and The Hobbit the most realistic CG character?

I still go with Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean as being the most photorealistic CG character even after 10 years, but I do understand that recreating a human (and one whose features we are already very familiar with) is extremely difficult and the final frontier in CGI.
