Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Harmy, I watched your DeEd-v2.0-WP2.3 workprint. Sadly I had no time to watch this earlier.

One thing I noticed is at 20:46, the scene after Biggs' fighter explodes the movie stucks for one frame or so. This happens when the fighter explodes and then in the next scene where Leia appears on the screen on Yavin, the timecode is 20:48 exactly when this happens. Maybe it has be something to do with the editing process and can be fixed???

The rest of this looks brilliant IMO.

I thought about it. Possibly but I'm not decided yet. Maybe, similarly to what I have planned for foreign dubs, it could be available as a separate download that anyone can mux in themselves.

That is a good idea. I demuxed your version 1.0 back then and remuxed the english audio and the audio in my motherlanguage. That worked very well with Megui and I like your idea for your version 2.0.

Nice new clip, Harmy. I like the stars. I noticed that there seems to be black mask around the edges of the star destroyer; this mask seems to eat up stars before they're actually blocked by the ship's edge.

;) <------

I noticed the black matte line as well especially when the SD passes over the moon/planet on the left side. Very noticeable in comparison V.1

This is also visible in puggo's 16 mm transfer.

I think that black matte is as theatrical as can be.

The download link was temporary unavailable, but now I got it.

This crawl looks perfect to me, and the stars, there are so many stars shining so beautiful.

Then the moon of Tatooine! The moon looks really de-SE'd for me.

But then, the lasers of the Tantive, so shiny and not these thin spaghetties flying around anymore. I was so exited when I saw these bright red shining lasers there.

There is so much more to see in this scene compared to your version 1.0. Never thought this release 1.0 could become improved but now I know better.

Harmy, you say that this is not final, but this looks perfect to me. When I watch this, I really get the "Vintage Star Wars feeling" back.

Harmy,

I watched your SW-DeEd-1st-Workprint on my TV a few times. I had to demux your mp4 file and remux the video and the audiostream into a MKV file. I had to do that because my standalone can only play MKV files.

No reencoding was made, I just remuxed the streams.

I really like the colours in the Tantive scenes. But in a short shot the colour looks colder, just like the SE colours to me, it happens at timecode 3:46, the other scenes have the I call it warmer colours.

I also noticed at timecode 7:06 that Tatooine pans blocky over the screen while the escape capsule flies down to the planet. I wasn't sure if my player had problems in playing this thing properly but in your original posted workprint this is also a littlebit blocky. It is not very strong but it is there.

The yellow face of Tarkin has been mentioned here, but at timecode 16:48 the face of Owen looks very yellow too.

It might be reflections from c-3po's chest but honestly it looks rather like yellow skin and not like a reflection to me, what do you think?

Btw. the scene where Luke inspects his lightsaber in Bens hutt, I had to watch it again and again. The blue light looks soooo great.

I think I will watch your workprint a few times more until your final release comes out.

Oh, man, yes. Check out this shot. Look at the Stormtrooper just to the left of Leia. He has a #2 stamped on his chest that I would have never noticed without the high quality (and intense scrutiny).

I guess we finally know who #2 works for, eh? :)

Wow, I din't notice that before. I also noticed that the amor on the left arm of the left stormtrooper is fixed with a adhesive tape.

From what I understand George doesn't like these things and wanted to edit them out of 'his' movies.

In Mr. Lucas opinion Star Wars is about a boy, a girl and a universe, about a father and a son and a galaxy far, war away.

I agree with Mr. Lucas there but in my opinion Star Wars is also matte painting, costumes, stop-motion, spaceship models, true little explosions etc.

Mr. Lucas has stolen a lot of stop-motion, real explosions, real costumes etc out of the movies with his SE, because a lot these elements are replaced by virtually, non-existing computer animated elements.

Harmy gives brings back this physical feel of Star Wars.

Sorry for spamming your threat here Harmy, but I just had to say that.

Harmy,

I watched your workprint and was surprised, how much detail is visible. I thought I saw some dirt on the boot of the one or the other stormtrooper that I never noticed before. I may be wrong, but in one scene I think I can see that Hamill has a few ret dots in face, seems like he was in a rush when he shaved that morning before he went to the set ;-)

I had to compare it with the bluray and I can see it there too, just didn't notice that before. I think your colour timing shows those fine things better than the SE bluray. These fine details show on what a cool release you are working.

I found one thing that I like post here:

For me the rock in the distance behind the sandcrawler seems to glow a littlebit neon-blue. I just wanted to point you on this, maybe you want to fix that.

I like to post a request here for the lasers in the opening shot.

For me the unaltered Star Wars movie has these wonderful shining lasers in the opening scene when the Tantive tries to escape from the imperial ship.

A significant "fingerprint" for the SE is the the orange laser shots from the Tantive are thinner and not so brilliant in colour anymore.

Here is a shot from the GOUT (Puggo's 16mm release has the same shining laser shots too):

Here is the same shot with the "SE fingerprint":

Are you planning to change that? To be honest, in my opinion when I watch the unaltered version of Star Wars and I see the bright shining lasers in the opening scene I know that this is the "real" version.

I wasn't able to look here often the last few weeks and must say that I lost a littlebit track. So I'm not sure if you plan to edit one or another thing or if editing stage is completed.

At last here comes the pic of Hamill I was referring to:

Arent't there a few red dots on his cheek?

Sorry for posting these big pictures in your threat, but how can I post them as thumbnails?

And they wouldn't happen to be these screenshots, would they? If not, I'm totally definitely interested in seeing them! Thanks :-)

Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry HaRMy! I think I need some glasses!

Well, yes these are the screenshots. I didn't know these are on jedi1.net...

Just downloaded the CD back then.

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)

Obviously you're not THAT old school a jedi, as you nick claims ;)

As you must know the original German crawl to Empire HAS that typo. Even more: I am using the actual film transfer of that crawl (the Empire crawl isn't re-created by me... only the logo and the background were replaced by me), as it was used in the German HDTV broadcasts.

And since I've tried to re-create the classic German crawls, both that typo and the "belated" German logo for SW are included in these re-creations.

Yes, the first time I had the chance to watch ESB was when it first came out in the video rental shops on video 2000 back then. I think it was in 1982 or 1983. It was so long ago, that I cannot remember how the crawl looked.

I have several other releases on VHS but I don't have a player anymore so I cannot compare anymore.

I'm really sorry to say, but there is a little Tippteufel in the ESB crawl:

The title says 'Das Imperium schlägt züruck'. I assume this wasn't in the original crawl? I'm asking because the original release of episode II for example had the title 'Angrief der Klonkrieger' printed on the DVD-cover.

Anyway, these are nice crawls. What videocodec did you use for this?

First of all, thank you so much for doing this. I can finally watch Star Wars on something other than VHS. I was wondering, in the scene where luke blasts the door controls, almost the entire time Vader is walking towards the door (1:30:27-1:30:22), his lightsaber is bright white instead of red:

Whitesaber

Was this how this scene always was?

This is the shot (not resized) from Puggos 16 mm transfer:

The saber was white before the 2004 release.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1

When compare the neck of the guy on my GOUT DVD and the 2004 DVD I can see almost no difference. I think this scene is not 'Special Editioned'.

I like both Jabbas, in the sample the version with more and the version with less smoke. I find it difficult to decide witch version I would use. No matter what version you decide to use, Hamry, I like it better than the Chewie scene here.

Do you rearrange (cut) the audiotracks also, then?

I'm asking, because I replaced the czech audiotrack on SW and ESB with the audiotrack in my motherlanguage. Therefore I had to demux my PAL GOUT DVD's, slowed the audio down from 25fps to 23,9 fps and remuxed the video- and audiostreams. My new created audiostreams matched perfectly with your videostream.

So, I will probably have to cut my ROTJ audiotrack???

No no, the whole point of inserting the shot in there was to keep it in sync with the GOUT audio. I'm really bad with audio editing, so I'm trying to avoid it by making the video sync with the audio.

Wonderful!!!

I mean then everybody can combine the videostream you made with the audiostream in his motherlanguage from the GOUT DVD if he wants. With MeGUI it is really not difficult.

No, it will stay the way it is here. It's a reverse shot of Chewie from later in the scene. I always said I was gonna have to do that in order to remove the stupid added shot of Boba Fett flirting with the SE dancers. I did it exactly like this in the PDE and I think it works really well. In the ROTJ DVD Reconstruction I decided to use the GOUT shot and it stands out like a sore thumb even at DVD resolution, because that particular shot looks like crap in the GOUT. I experimented with only using Jabba from GOUT for the missing part but the quality difference is so huge that it just wouldn't work.

Burned at 5 X using imgburn... "The disc is incompatible...

Oh well :-(

Shame, as I thought, it being a panasonic blu ray player.. it might work.. :-(

I had the same problem with Hamry's SW blu ray ISO image.

This helped to play the file on my standalone, maybe you will get your image playable too if you try this:

Mount the ISO image in daemon tools or a similar tool.

Then open the BDMV folder. Are there other folders named AUXDATA, BDJO, JAR, META in the BDMV folder?

If not, I have no idea to get this one playable on your standalone. :-(

If these folders are there follow my little guide:

Copy/paste the BDMV folder and the CERTIFICATE folder from the image you mounted into another folder on your HDD, for example C//:videos. You could also skip this step but I really recommend to do this.

When finished, delete the following subfolders in the BDMV folder you copied:

\BDMV\AUXDATA\
\BDMV\BDJO
\BDMV\JAR
\BDMV\META
\BDMV\BACKUP\BDJO

Important: Do not delete the BACKUP folder, only the BDJO folder in the BACKUP folder.

Then burn the BDMV folder and the CERTIFICATE folder on your disc as described in this guide. Your disc should play now.

Some standalones cannot handle discs that contain the subfolders mentioned. My player cannot handle them too, but this helped.

Hello There!

As we all know by now, the GOUT DVDs do not feature a german title crawl.

I am using the gout videotrack, made it anamorph (avs script --> cce sp reencoding).

In the last week I was trying to merge my german title crawl with the gout videotrack of episode 4 and was very successful.

The crawl is from the VHS Silver Screen Collection, featuring the title crawl stretched to 720x576.

The results of filtering were astounding clear, you can download the latest video here:
http://rapidshare.de/files/35146630/deutsches_intro.mpg.html
(mpeg2-file, 16:9, ac3 2.0 german audio, 100 MB)

Please download it and post your commentaries/critics here.

R2D2 posted a capture of the german title crawl that could maybe be useful. The link is dead, but maybe R2D2 has the title crawl and the german credits and could post them again.

I still have his german title crawl only, it looked not bad.
