tbh i didnt even notice that issue and i forget the settings i used in gigapixel.

The contrast is a little strong (highlights on Luke’s sleeve), also having a pink cast.

oh yeah i know it needs proper color matching to the other tatooine scenes in the real movie and probably a bit more clean up.

nah man not for a long time i just dont have the right tools to fix up the deleted scenes.

i like the idea but upscaling such a low res show into 4k is going to be a nightmare, i fucked around with using topaz gigapixel to try and upscale the intro of the show and there was literally no improvement to the fidelity.

Those frames are some of the easiest to repair. It is a small scratch that wanders. It is merely a matter of filling it with the right color to hide it and you have adjoining frames to work with. It is all the dirt and other junk that I have problems with. The scratches and other damage are what I’ve been working on for years. I have a great photo of my great-great grandmother and her 4 children and it has a scratch right though one of her eyes. I was able to eliminate it and no one who sees my correction can see the fix. In this case, it is just a few frames and I could do that in an afternoon. I’ve been dying to start working on this, but I’ve been distracted by color correcting the various versions of the finished films.

i’ve been trying to avoid painting out scratches and just trying to use adjacent frames but it seems like i’m gonna have too

nearly all the frames of luke at the catching the binoculars have big ol scratches down lukes body and it would and i might be able to fix it if i had another source. nice idea but i dont think it would work

800: bhl (got sick of typing black horizontal line)
801: oh heres a change its a green horizontal line this time
845: some one at ilm has dipped their finger in alien cum and smeared it on the frame
900: holy shit 2 black lines in 1 frame mum get the camera
955: black horizontal squiggle
956: big fuck off scratch
957: line and squiggle
1528-1533: massive scratches
2853-2857: scratches running through luke (perhaps unfixable)

Update 1

done a second automated clean up attempt using the film9 tool for virtualdub and it looks a lot better than the original clean up attempt but its not perfect just yet.

i now need to go through and manual clean up individual frames that are really badly damaged as well as replace a few frames with the originals because the dirt remover has caused motion smearing similar to that of the gout.

Good idea for a project. I’m not sure if it’ll help but Blackmagic has a couple of free tools that might come in handy. The first is Davinci Resolve, which is excellent for color correction. The second is Fusion, which according to the manual, has some frame repair and cloning tools. I’ve never used Fusion, so I can’t vouch for how good they are, but both programs are Mac/Windows compatible. They’re both pro tools, so they’re not exactly easy to learn, but they might be worth a look.

Project Outline

in this project i will be trying to (to the best of my ability) clean up and colour correct a few deleted scenes of the trilogy.
ill be starting with a new hope and working my way through. as of now i have preformed an automated clean up on a small bit of the tosche station scene aswell as a small bit of colour correction (if anyone has any colour references it would be greatly appreciated)

this mainly applies to star wars but can also apply too other films, i was wondering where i could find the actual 4k files of film scans. (who too ask, where to download)

anyone else pissed that they aren’t bringing back more things from legends?, i appreciate things like thrawn and his body gaurd being brought back but i dont like how they keep making new planets when there are plenty of planets from legends to choose from, i mean did they really need to make jakku and scarrif when they could of just as well used legends planets (i understand disney are trying to make star wars their own thing but as ashoka says “there’s always a bit of truth in legends”)

bloody hell man i can not believe this, the video rivals that of the blu ray and apart from the red “flaring?” in some scences (i think it might be damage on the original film and not a product of the color correction) the colours far outdo anything on the blu ray. keep up the good work man.

i don’t think the prequels are bad movies i just think they were bad in comparison to the original trilogy, i mean seriously how are you supposed to follow up probably the best movie trilogy ever? i think that episode 3 was a pretty good movie despite creating a few plot holes and the overuse of cgi (oh and padme dying of a broken heart/losing the will to live what ever it was that was dumb)
