Hello everyone, I come to you with hat in hand for some help with the Domesday Duplicator. I am working on a project where I’d like to pull pristine footage off some laserdiscs. Not an expert on electronics, but when it comes to the software side of things, I got it on lock. I got myself a Pioneer CLD-R6G that was in working order because it was post 1995 and had RF test points and all of the tutorials online were straight forward enough. I have been driving myself mental trying to get this thing to work.
My Domesday duplicator was flashed and assembled correctly, it is working as it should. I have tried two different wire riggings. It’s not an issue with my cables as I tested all of them with a multimeter. Every time I run a capture the signal is blown out. I’ve tried every dip switch setting. But it seems like the audio channel is coming in too hot. I even tried BNC attenuators to try and quiet it down. Any one I tried (3, 6, 10, and 20 db) and all it did was kill my signal completely. I’m not an electronics expert but from the looks of things all of the capacitors look fine, they aren’t bloated or leaking. I also don’t have the skill or technical know how to figure out what problems there might be and fix them either. The electronics guy in town blew one of my machines trying (I bought two! Just in case!!)
At any rate, I am about ready to pitch this thing out a window because it is not cooperating with me. I am fed up and annoyed because I am wasting entire days trying to get this stubborn thing to work and it’s just not. At this point, I’m giving up on this specific machine. Unless someone has a Hail Mary solution, I think she’s a turkey. Like, it should be a lot easier than this. I feel like the machine is gaslighting me.
So rather than blindly try and figure out a machine that’ll work, I want to reach out to this community and get some suggestions on workable models. I’ve scoured the DDD documentation and Reddit and yadda yadda yadda. So I know the “Gold Standard” models and I know about post-1995 Pioneers being the most agreeable to conversion. But a comprehensive list is hard to come by and finding the two or three machines people swear by in the documentation are just as hard to find in working condition. So I am asking those of you on here who have had success: What model LD player did you successfully mod? Because I am scouring eBay and the like to find something that’ll work and after getting burned with the CLD-R6G, I am more than a little reluctant to throw down my money on something that nobody can attest to.
Thank you in advance!
