Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * <strong>SPOILER THREAD</strong> *
Time

Ok, back February-April, I was copying and pasting the rumors that MSW and SW7news were coming up with at the time, check out some of these greatest hits:

  • Leia sends an emissary to Rose’s planet who is killed by the “Catapult” weapon of the Empire.
  • At one point she tells Rebel pilot Poe Dameron his squadron is all that survived. He reluctantly obeys her orders.
  • Towards the middle of the film, in the Map Room of the Rebel Base, Leia has a secret “up her sleeve,” involving her own weapon called “The Sledgehammer” by the production.
  • Without storyboards, “The Sledgehammer” is difficult to understand but appears to be a kamikaze-like craft capable of taking down Star Destroyer sized spacecrafts.
  • Leia is proud of this weapon.
  • Rose tells Leia she thinks the sword found inside BB-8 should be with Finn so Leia hands the lightsaber over to him.

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

Even if that rumor about Han shooting first again in the 4k version is true (and it very well may be, Devin is pretty sincere about his sources), I don't see why reversing that one change has any bearing on an OOT release. It could still be the SE in every other way, and they've reversed changes before (Luke's scream in ESB '97).

That was debunked, Greedo still shoots first: http://badassdigest.com/2015/04/09/the-digital-edition-of-star-wars-could-make-a-major-change/

May the bullet list be with you:

  • Leia sends an emissary to Rose’s planet who is killed by the “Catapult” weapon of the Empire.
  • The sequence in which Han Solo and Princess meet for the first time in the film is described as “awkward.”
  • She is described as a Queen on the main cast list.
  • At one point she tells Rebel pilot Poe Dameron his squadron is all that survived. He reluctantly obeys her orders.
  • She appears to still be a prominent leader of the Rebel Alliance.
  • Leia wants to know what Finn knows (presumably about the Empire).
  • Leia and Han still argue.
  • The last thing Han says to Leia before he leaves for the final mission is “I’ll hurry back.”
  • When Kylo and Han meet again, it cuts to Leia who feels “a disturbance in the Force” so to speak.
  • There is no indication she is a Jedi or started upon that path with her brother.
  • Leia is elated when it appears Luke has been found.
  • At the end of the film, Leia and Rey have a special goodbye in which she bids Rey “a fond farewell.”

More from sw7news:

  • The name Rey is Daisy Ridley’s name at the beginning of the film.
  • Rey is an alias to hide her real identity. She might be Solo since she consults Han to find the saber he identifies as his friends.
  • JJ wanted to keep Ridley’s real name secret. Her identity is a setup for a plot twist.
  • BB-8 is Poe’s droid at the opening of the film. (also recently reported by MSW)
  • JK that Poe confronts in the beginning of the movie is listed in the top 10 characters.
  • Han Solo is not in the final group shot wave good bye scene. (also recently reported by MSW)
  • Luke only appears in one scene at the end of the film when Kira returns his saber. (also recently reported by MSW)
  • There is a Young Original Warrior. (also recently reported by MSW)

"It should be worth noting that “Original Warrior” was apparently Luke’s script name in the same vein as “Kira” was for Rey, as both codenames were used at the Skellig Michael shoot if initials are anything to go by. While there’s still reason to question the “Luke is only in one scene” rumor, it’s interesting that our source brought it up here as well. Still I believe there’s something more to this story.

So actually 6 of the stories our source shared with us 2 months ago were backed up by a more detailed descriptions from MakingStarWars. And I guarantee you that our sources are not the same."

Time

Hey, it's been a few days, so here is the latest round of bullet points that may or may not have anything to do with Star Wars Episode VII:

Some time after they escape the brig, Poe goes his own way and Finn wanders into the desert town. There’s Stormtroopers there. Finn and Rey take the Falcon to evade them. It is said the Falcon is “swallowed” by the giant freighter once they get to space. A lot happens to Poe and Finn before that but we’ll save that for another day. There’s still a few details that need to be ironed out.

The Gist:

  • Finn and Rey steal the Falcon.
  • The kids end up on a huge freighter in space.
  • Han is there to meet the kids with Chewbacca.
  • Han wants them off his plane ship.
  • Finn convinces Han to let them stay.
  • Something happens with the chessboard.
  • Han checks the video screen.
  • A gang is there!
  • Han explains the cargo (creature(s) without description).
  • Han hides the kids.
  • The kids pull the fuse in the Falcon.
  • It’s a good distraction.
  • The cargo is released.
  • Fin is dragged away by cargo and saved by Rey.
  • Hell breaks loose.
  • Chewbacca is wounded in the fight
  • Rey fights off the gang by herself.
  • Falcon has issues.
  • Rey fixes Falcon impressing Han.
  • Some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield as they race out.

I think you're missing the point of the thread. Such items are pricey, but do not rise to the level of batsh*t crazy.

The bids on this do...

Ah, well, my idea of batsh*t is having a life-size(?) statue of one of the most ridiculous looking and obscure background characters in my house, but tastes will vary ;).

Given the reactions to the rumors here, I wonder if there's any possible storyline that could be suggested that wouldn't get a bad reaction.

Something that moves past superweapons, Sith lords, universe shrinkage, and black hat villains with red lightsabers would do it for me ...

The universe shrinkage is one of the things I hate most about Episode I.  There's no reason at all for Anakin to come from Tatooine, and even less for him to be C3PO's creator.  That's why, desert or not, I hope that what we see in the teaser isn't Tatooine.  Black hat villains with red lightsabers, that's just Star Wars, man.

In some places, the hate for makingstarwars.net is profound.  The way I look at it is, if every single rumor turns out to be BS, it just means I'm going in unspoiled.

It's interesting to see that the originaltrilogy.com people are by and large the ones with the most negative expectations about Episode VII, compared to the forums and comments sections I've been looking at.  Given the reactions to the rumors here, I wonder if there's any possible storyline that could be suggested that wouldn't get a bad reaction.

I know there are a lot of people in general who really dislike JJ Abrams, but I'm pretty neutral in that regard.  I thought that the Star Trek films had good and bad points, but were entertaining films overall.  I do think that he's a competent filmmaker, which may be too high praise, depending on your opinion of him.

May I be very rude.

You definitely can.  I'm just going to say this:  Harmy knows a lot about color grading, and a lot about every single shot of Star Wars.  Although it may give you some satisfaction to try to point out the shortcomings of his efforts at some length, I don't think it's necessary.  He knows them very well.

From BBC News:

Asked about the secrecy surrounding the script, Abrams added: "We did the best we can to preserve the story for the audience, but it doesn't always work.

"There are a ton of rumours - some true, some false. But I'm grateful for everyone who would want to read a spoiler because it means that they care and want to see the movie.

"I know what it feels like, as an enormous Star Wars fan myself."

Saw that today also, in a few different places.  I think that the most of the basic elements that have been repeated for months now are probably true, but the order of the plot points I just pasted may not be right at all.  Also, it just gets down to details. For example, we know a lightsaber is involved, but is it Luke's, Vader's, Palpatine's?  Etc.. Probably doesn't matter, in the end.  I think those sort of details are what he means by false rumors.

I think that is a more modest price than the one the now defunct Icons company made in the 90's. And certainly cheaper than winning a real ILM miniature if one ever came up for auction.

I have to say, comparing the pictures here to the ones in the Lucasfilm Archives book, this model may actually have cleaner details than the original:

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * <strong>SPOILER THREAD</strong> *
Time

starwars7news has speculated about the beginning of the Episode VII plot:

It’s taken a number of rumors (both plausible and outlandish) and quite a bit of speculation from all across the fandom, but it now appears that the pieces are coming together, and that with the help of Making Star Wars, we’ve got a picture of what part of the first act of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is going to look like.

A long time ago, Devin Faraci reported that the movie would begin with a hand attached to a lightsaber floating through space and landing on a planet where major characters appear. While this initial rumor has since been dismissed by a number of sources, it now appears that his source was on the right track – there is a lightsaber that somehow ends up on the planet without burning up in the atmosphere (did the will of the Force get it there?), but there’s not a disembodied hand clutched to it. The lightsaber lands on a savanna environment, where it is discovered by a character codenamed “Naka”, who is a farmer. While inspecting the lightsaber, Naka accidentally sets it off, which causes a small fire.

Naka takes the weapon from the fire and delivers it to an individual codenamed “The Vicar”, who MSW speculates is Max Von Sydow’s character based on a film role he had that with the same name. The Vicar then contacts the Rebel Alliance, who send Poe Dameron over to the planet to retrieve the weapon alongside his droid, BB-8. Poe gets the lightsaber, but soon discovers that the Empire also caught wind of the message and has sent Stormtroopers after him. Poe sticks the lightsaber into BB-8′s hidden compartment and allows it to escape, while he is eventually captured by the Imperials after holding them off.

At the same time and on the same planet, a Stormtrooper squadron that Finn is a part of descends upon a village to raze it to the ground, led personally by Kylo Ren. They are met with some resistance, but many of the villagers are unarmed. Nonetheless, a number of Stormtroopers are killed in the process, including Finn’s friends. Finn objects to killing unarmed civilians, and deliberately allows a number of them to escape. Kylo Ren is displeased with this and has Finn detained on the Star Destroyer orbiting the planet for refusing to follow orders. As luck would have it, Poe is in the same brig that Finn is placed in. Poe and Finn reluctantly agree to work together to escape in order to work toward a common goal, in spite of being on opposing sides of the war. They hijack a TIE fighter in a daring escape… And they then crash-land on the surface of the planet. To be continued!

----

One of our own sources has been able to vouch for this outline, but with one notable addition to the continuity of this series of events: to ensure that their escape works out, Poe and Finn cause a large explosion in the Star Destroyer, which causes the ship to fall out of orbit and crash-landed in the desert. The leaked concept art showed a downed Star Destroyer in the background of one piece, and it also shows an image of a TIE fighter that was shot down on the surface of the planet, which now seems to be the TIE fighter than Finn and Poe take in an effort to escape in. It’s likely that the above scene from the trailer takes place immediately after the TIE fighter that gets gunned down.

----

Our source told us that Han is not present in the final scene of the movie, and given the sequence of events that were described to MSW, it’s abundantly clear why: he’s dead. He goes out to confront Kylo Ren personally before he is killed, giving Finn, Rey, BB-8, and Chewbacca enough time to escape from the villain. This scene in the trailer is thought to take place after the group escape from him. While this is a plot thread that most people suspected would happen as soon as Harrison Ford signed onto the film, both sources support each other with this turn of events, giving both reports extra credence.

Jonno was kind enough to email me my blu ray set, box, disc, and everything else exactly as I had finished it. I have put it in several places to ensure I won't lose it again.

I'm feeling a little Lucasy and debating on making some slight corrections, mostly to little mistakes I can see on my better monitor. The Empire poster, I can see a little bit of Yoda's ear from my overlays, and some artifacts. I have some higher quality scans, the coloration will mostly be the same. I also see some places where the blacks weren't as low as they needed to be.

Thanks for that!  I've been planning my own set, which may or may not come to fruition, and you're a big influence.
