How many times do we need to reiterate the difference between Lucas' changes and suppression of the original versions and fan projects that present mere unofficial alternatives?
Hey, I couldn't agree more about Lucas' suppression of the original versions. It's offensive in its disregard of the fans that made Star Wars what it is. 100% with you on that.
But as for the changes he made or ********* has made or anyone else has in their own fan edits, one is no worse than the other. Not all the changes in the SE are for the worse, and not all Ady's changes are better. Just wondering about the lack of balance in some of the praise for his work and the absurd tip-toeing around him when people want to post a criticism of one of his updates. He's just a guy who learned some skills who's meddling with a movie for his own satisfaction. That's all.
And let's face it, who the fuck ever thought The Empire Strikes Back needed fixing? There's nothing wrong with it, unless of course you have OCD and can't bear to see a minor continuity error or two. How did this movie ever survive?
So, yeah, Lucas went about it the wrong way, but Ady has put some crap out there as well. Dual of the Fates in A New Hope. A screen full of TIE fighters that, while technically excellent, demonstrates his inability to compose a balanced image within the frame, etc.
It's been six years so far, and this is the movie that most people agree has the least wrong with it. Gonna be waiting till 2030 till he finishes ROTJ:R are you? Stop kissing his ass, learn some self respect, go out and discover girls or boys, or better still, actually learn these skills for yourself and apply them in a constructive way. I know, I know, you have lives. I'm sure some of you do, but if your response is to attack me just for daring to speak my mind about the culture around Ady's fan edits, then I disregard your criticism. If you have sound arguments why I'm wrong, you have my ear and my complete respect.
Merry Christmas
