What we like about the Prequels
Time

When you're discussing what is best about the Prequel Trilogy, I think it's a cheat to cite John Williams' score or the special effects, simply because they're not unique to the prequels.  Asking whether Williams or ILM did an excellent job on any Star Wars project is like asking if the movies were in color; it's a given.

Now, if we look at elements unique to the prequels, that leaves us with...

- Ewan McGregor.  It's not easy to replace one of the greatest actors of all time, but McGregor definitely succeeded.  He completely sells his performances in each part of the trilogy, progressing from apprentice to journeyman to master with confidence and authenticity.  I'd gladly watch more Obi-Wan solo adventures if McGregor starred in them.

- The Order 66 montage.  The emotional lynchpin of the PT.  Shot after shot of Jedi being betrayed and murdered by their own troops, backed by Williams' epic score... to me, it make the whole PT worth it.  Powerful, bravura filmmaking.

Flaws, plotholes, and "could-have-been-done-betters" in the OT (alternate plot points especially welcome)
Time

At the Pit of Carkoon, two changes:

- Jabba falls into the Sarlaac

- Leia strangles Boba Fett with her chain

It just makes sense to me that having this bloated slug fall into the ravening hole in the desert would make for an awesome moment.  Plus, you get the symmetry of the villain who likes to feed victims to monsters (the Rancor, the Sarlaac) getting a taste of his own medicine.

And, by having Fett die at Leia's hand, the baddest bounty hunter in the galaxy no longer dies by accident.  He's eliminated by a resourceful and deadly foe, not by the SW equivalent of slipping in the bathtub.

***The Custom DVD Cover Request Thread***
Time

For those who don't know, Dr. Randy Pausch was a computer science professor at Carneige Mellon University who died on pancretic cancer in 2008.  He rose to fame when his famous lecture, "Achieving Your Childhood Dreams", was posted to youtube and became a sensation.

My wife got a copy of this lecture on DVD for Christmas this year, but, alas, it was inside a plain cardboard envelope.  I see there is a classroom edition available:

Can someone please make a copy of this cover?  Or perhaps someone would want to make their own version of a DVD cover?

BTW: The lecture is available on youtube at

If you haven't ever seen it, it's awesome, life-changing.  Highly recommended!

Thanks in advance, gang!
