Jackie Chan Hong Kong restoration project UPDATES (Released)
Time

No English dub on DM2. At least we don't plan on it. I don't want to waste any time with it, but I'll ask my editing partner if he is willing to make sure it lines up and can be included.

As for the German releases... Upconverts a complete no-go for me. These projects take so damn long to do that we are sticking with HD only sources.

The LONE exception that I will make is with PROJECT A. That film is such a classic that I'm willing to make a hybrid.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

EDIT: Some of my words are being misconstrued as an insult and that was NOT my intent in any way shape or form, so i have edited them below. Edited comments are underlined.

I really feel battles need to picked and chosen carefully. The matted in eyebrows are very distracting. That's one change we can just let slide. It's not a big deal, but becomes a bigger deal with them matted in

Certain other oddities about these are kind of perplexing. Why not show R2D2 with his true blue sections during the finale in Episode IV? Reverting to black is kind of silly (that is my own personal opinion). That is one issue about the original effects where they were forced to go black for R2 because of blue screen. Showing the true blue would be fine with me. It's not a horrid CGI change or some stupid creature matted in. It's a flaw that has been fixed. I don't object to those at all.

That being said, I bow down to the expertise it took to pull these off.

I'm finally burning all three of these to DVD DL and will show my nieces (ages 10 and 12) each film, one per Saturday... And it is their first time. They have yet to see a single STAR WARS film and know nothing about them.

Not even who Luke's dad is. So I'm pumped.

For the record, I for one would like Star Wars 2.5 as a 50GB Blu-Ray. Or even a 25GB Blu-Ray. Either would be a huge improvement of heavily compressed 720p (which still looks fantastic, so don't get me wrong).

Last thing... Why not leave PCM as is? I just don't buy into compressing it down. 16 bit LPCM cannot be beat and should be left completely alone.

Yeah, I'm just going to get the ones you linked on Amazon and have them shipped to you.

Looking forward to the upcoming Team Blu releases. Are you still working on The Black Hole?

Yes and a bunch more, we just really could use some help in the audio dept. I just have to much to do to do all these LD PCM tracks lol, I could use some help here.

As I have pointed out, I'll take on this task, but need a final video edit (it doesn't have to be 1080p, just the correct 23.97 fps). I visually verify these tracks each step of the way. It's the only way to get perfectly lined up audio and video in my very humble opinion.

Yesterday I completed Drunken Master 2. There were over 500 sound edits. It was a massive undertaking and my version is actually more in sync than the original theatrical prints (Hong Kong films are all dubbed in post and the dialog is typically quite sloppy, with the sound effects only being slightly better).

Anyone know of reliable DVD+R DL inkjet printables? Verbatim discontinued the ones I prefer.
Time

UPDATE: I was lucky enough to find a small town dealer who has a 20 pack in stock. I paid $44 (shipped) for it, but dammit, it's what i wanted. So A-men to that.

Original message...

Oh my God, I am going to DIE!! (an exaggeration, but let me vent) I have always used Verbatim DataLifePlus Inkjet Printable DVD+R DL (P/N 9512) blanks.

I've had less than a 1% failure rate and my printer loves them. I use about 20 to 25 per year (that's it) and I am down to my last one.

And whoa!!!!! the shock when I saw Amazon no longer stocks them. Nobody stocks them! And holy crap, the ones on eBay are crazy expensive. They have been discontinued. The new version is a 50 pack (I don't need that many) and what I do not like... Printable to the very center of the disc. My Canon MX850 won't go to the absolute center so the Verbatims i was using were perfect.

So... Anyone know of some reliable inkjet printable DVD+R DL's out there?

While I will settle for blanks that have a printing surface all the way to the center if I must, I would really like to avoid that. I frequently have to send out sample DVD's and it would not look professional of part of the surface was blank white. These are what i want...

Verbatim

Note the black spot around the hub. Perfect for my printer, which cannot print in that area.

And I only need a pack of 20 to 25. A big bundle of 50 or more is just not needed and too rich for my blood right now.

Thanks, all.

Burning AVCHD ISO with ImgBurn... Clarification please
Time

Gents, normally when I have burned DVD9 AVCHD's I have had folder structures. it's been quite some time since I burned one via an ISO.

Well... I just snagged the AVCHD ISO of Star Wars Despecialized and... uh... I am blanking on what I need to do differently.

Can anyone clarify? All the guides that come up from Google involve folder structures. None deal with ISO's and an ISO is what you can dl in regards to Star Wars Despecialized.

Thanks!

For Sale: STAR WARS CAV Laserdisc Boxed Set, plus the CLV FACES release for sale
Time

Guys, I am cleaning house on my laserdiscs. I have the following I’d like to sell…

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>STAR WARS Trilogy CAV Laserdisc Boxed Set with Lucasfilm book. Included would be my DVD backups of all three films, each film spread over two dual layer DVD’s, possessing the PCM soundtracks (audio NOT converted to lower bitrate DD2.0). The box itself has some wear and I can provide pictures.</span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>STAR WARS TRILOGY THX Faces releases: The last time the originals were released to laserdisc. There is some shelf wear, but mostly these looks fine.</span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>I also have some Jackie Chan and Jet Li films (all DVD9 backups have LPCM audio)…</span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>PROJECT A Japanese laserdisc with DVD9 backup.</span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>POLICE STORY Extended Japanese Laserdisc with HD <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>Blu-Ray</span> containing the laserdisc audio. </span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>FIST OF LEGEND Gold Laserdisc. English subtitled. DVD9 backup.</span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>And… HARD BOILED Criterion CAV set, including my <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>Blu-Ray</span> restoration with the Criterion’s audio synced and restored. </span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>Finally… THE TERMINATOR, plus a <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>Blu-Ray</span> with the Laserdisc PCM audio synced up. Awesomeness defined.</span>

<span style=“font-size: 1.2em; line-height: 1.2em;”>I’ll accept any fair offer. I am not trying to score big bucks here, as that would be absurd. </span>

Info: Hard Boiled and The Killer
Time

There is not one single solitary decent release for The Killer, A Better Tomorrow or Hard Boiled. All are marred with one or more pathetic problems.

My HARD BOILED restoration at least allows us to enjoy that film in real high def with good sound.

We can only pray A BETTER TOMORROW is given a real proper 4k restoration. Just because it is happening does not mean it will be done correctly.

Jackie Chan Hong Kong restoration project UPDATES (Released)
Time

Gang, sorry for the long absence. Been busy. Moved. Current net connection is damn near dialup. 😦

<span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>POLICE STORY</span> has been finished for quite some time. BD50, custom menus (courtesy my editing partner, who’s awesome).

<span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>HARD BOILED</span> is also finished, as many of you know. Not Jackie Chan, but clearly an important HK film.

<span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>DRUNKEN MASTER 2</span> is back on. The audio is mid-way and a royal BITCH! Hundreds of edits and shifts so far with hundreds more likely.

However I won’t quit. It’ll be finished by the fall.

After that we will move onto <span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>SUPERCOP</span>. Likely the U.S. version (there are no true HD sources for the original cut), but with both the 5.1 DUB and restored original audio taken from the Chase Stereo laserdisc (it sounds the best).

<span style=“text-decoration: underline;”>If anyone would like to volunteer to work with me on a 5.1 hybrid audio version</span> I am ready and willing. My dream would be to use the original dialog wherever possible, but with the 5.1 sund mix (effects & music). Obviously there is no real way to make that work 100% due to not having actual sound stems, but we can create a hybrid with limited dubbing. The 5.1 is miles ahead of the original (unlike most 5.1 mixes, which are lazy shit).

Maybe someone out there has the software to edit using a demuxed 5.1 track???

More titles will come, but they will definitely be in 2015.

CROCODILE DUNDEE - 1080p video &amp; Uncompressed audio from Laserdisc (Released)
Time

Mine arrived today and I sampled it. Looks great. But I think the PCM laserdisc sound bleeds more into the surrounds and therefore has more envelopment. No doubt there is zero distortion in the DTS track, even at crazy high volume (same as the LD's PCM).

The iTunes transfer massacred the blurry DVD and this is even better. Less DNR too (iTunes transfers are frequently DNR'd to reduce compression artifacts).

CROCODILE DUNDEE - 1080p video &amp; Uncompressed audio from Laserdisc (Released)
Time

I just placed my order. I am curious about the black crush. It's not really bad on my version. Maybe something happened between the iTunes xfer and this encode.

I am glad to hear the original film is given 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio. All too often these older pre 5.1 films get shafted with compressed DD2.0.
