Help Wanted: 'STAR TREK - TOS' deleted scenes preservation
Time

I couldn’t say if Gurian’sel is 8 or 16mm. The reel below is The Managerie two parts. The reel below should not be 35mm because one single episode would need 2 or 3 35mm reels, so the reel below should be 16mm. This would make the blooper reel above 8mm.
However it’s certainly not 35mm and, as you say, the 35mm are the best elements one could hope to get.

Hmm…well what about this, then:

That looks like one of the original reels. Here’s the original article on StarTrek.com, written by the StarTrekHistory.com guys:

Well, the picture shows that David Tilotta, co-owner of startrekhistory.com, has a copy of one blooper reel, but he was not involved the the Roddenberry Vault project. Also Gerald Gurian, author of the book series “To Boldly Go - Rare Photos from the TOS Soundstage” and owner of the website startrekpropauthority.com shows a blooper reel he owns in this article:
http://www.startrekpropauthority.com/2014/01/special-report-behind-scenes-look-at.html
And there are certainly other collectors who owns them. Simply they weren’t on Roddenberry vault, and in any case they decided they were not interested in them.

Info Wanted: Star Trek TOS Bloopers - where are they now?
Time

Well, here are my preservation files, used for the video I uploaded on YouTube some time ago and now no longer available. They are all sourced from various VHS (I have several, original and copies), and for each one I tried to select the best source, sometimes mixing differnt parts coming from different sources. I also did some video adjustment and color crrection but the final result is still bad.

Reel 0: excerpt from the “Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special” (includes scenes from reels 1-2-3-4)
http://www.marcellorossi.info/Blooper0.mp4

Reel 1: first part of the first season, probably made for 1966 Christmas holiday’s party
http://www.marcellorossi.info/Blooper1.mp4

Reel 2: full first season, includes scenes from reel 1 and the happy birthday video for Roddenberry’s wife Eileen at the end
http://www.marcellorossi.info/Blooper2.mp4

Reel 3: second season
http://www.marcellorossi.info/Blooper3.mp4

Reel 4: third season, includes scenes from reels 1 and 3
http://www.marcellorossi.info/Blooper4.mp4

Reel 5: compilation of reel 1-2-3 with better quality, released on VHS within the documentary “Forty Years of Science Fiction Television Featuring: Star Trek”

EXTRAS
Outtakes compilation

Scene 29D: unused take from “Whom Gods Destroy” released on startrekhistory.com website (http://startrekhistory.com/article2.html)

Dailies from “The Cage”. Released on startrekhistory.com website (http://startrekhistory.com/cagepage.html), those were used on the “E! Mysteries & Scandals” Jeffrey Hunter documentary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0567719/), I suppose they were in possession of Hunter’s family

Audio bloopers

According to my research, this is all the behind the scenes material available, aside from the official releases (“Billy Blackburn’s Treasure Chest” and the wonderful Roddenberry Vault boxset).

By the way: I don’t seem to be able to access FanFiltration video (https://youtu.be/V5g5GoRSfMc), YouTube says it’s private.

Yes, I’ve asked Roger Lay specifically about the bloopers reels. He said that they weren’t among the materials found in the Vault. This does not necessarily means that Roddenberry’s son does not have a copy of them somewhere else. Roger said that they wanted to include only new materials, things that has never been seen before. Honestly I don’t find this very convincing, my idea is that they don’t know exactly where to find them.

I had the opportunity to talk about this release with Roger Lay Jr., who supervised with the Okudas the Roddenberry Vault project (along with all the other recent Star Trek Blu-ray releases). He assured me that there is nothing else. They didn’t left out anything of value, all the new materials found in Roddenberry’s reels (and they’ve checked all of them) was included. And there was no sing of the bloopers reels.

Info Wanted: Star Trek TOS Bloopers - where are they now?
Time

Hi, I don’t know if this may be of interest but some time ago I did a exhaustive research to understand exactly how many different TOS blooper reels existed, and I assembled one long video with all the existing variations sourced from the best materials I could find (all VHS, including the original “Forty Years of Science Fiction Television Featuring: Star Trek” and “Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special”). The final video lenght was 44 minutes and it included the followings:

  1. Reel 0: excerpt from the “Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special”, better quality. Includes scenes from reels 1-2-3-4.

  2. Reel 1: first part of the first season, probably made for 1966 Christmas holiday’s party.

  3. Reel 2: full first season, includes scenes from reel 1 and the happy birthday video for Roddenberry’s wife Eileen at the end.

  4. Reel 3: second season.

  5. Reel 4: third season, includes scenes from reels 1 and 3.

  6. Reel 5: compilation of reel 1-2-3 with better quality, released on VHS within the documentary “Forty Years of Science Fiction Television Featuring: Star Trek”.

I put it on YouTube (here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sd1Fc0u6hoE), but CBS blocked it, despite the low quality, the fact that they have never been released and that there are hundreds of other TOS bloopers reel videos on YouTube (I’m honored CBS chose to block mine).

I did a similar job for all the original NBC promos (also never released offcially) and this time it wasn’t blocked. You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbOKvBq2iSk
In the description there is the list of the contents.

This site lists a few Trek workprints but no STFC or STI: http://www.freewebs.com/workprints/workprintcollection.htm

Actually they are listed in the "wanted" section under "Rumours Only": http://www.freewebs.com/workprints/wanted.htm

I believe he's the same guy from Star Trek BBS (http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?p=8399647).

I read somewhere a 'workprint' of an early cut of Insurrection is out there someplace, does anybody have a clue as to where I might look to find that footage?

I don't know if it's always you, but someone asked a similar question here: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?p=8399647 (he mentioned Insurrection and Nemesis).

Nobody was able to give any help though. To my knowledge no workprint of Insurrection or First Contact (or Nemesis) has ever leaked anywhere.

That's why I stopped myself from sharing it on the Trek BBS ... I think the "Thomas calls Marcus" clip would have ended at least one discussion over there.

Yes, I was tempted to do the same but decided no to following Akiotena request.

The deleted scene still doesn't explain why Marcus has a CGI Constitution class starship in his office and why it has the same registry number of another starship in the movie, but... never mind. After all they deleted the scene, didn't they?

I'm somehow surprised that nobody posted the links to the videos in the comments to the article at TrekCore or at TrekBBS here.

Anyway I suppose the deleted scenes will end up on YouTube (as listed) sooner or later.

LINK TIME.  All the files are more or less named correctly, and not as my stupid abbreviations below.  >_>

Enjoy!

First of all THANK YOU akiotena again!

I can't download the deleted scene "thomas calls marcus - http://180upload.com/xybbvhdnkgrk". I always get this error message: "This server is in maintenance mode. Refresh this page in some minutes."

Also this two links are the same:

video spruce goose - http://180upload.com/e3r7f3rcm9sj
video there will be darkness - http://180upload.com/e3r7f3rcm9sj

And it's the link to the Spruce Goose Hangar video. So it's missing the link to "there will be darkness" video.

sonthegreat mentioned that they were able to get ahold of the Smartglass XBox material.  I have no idea what's going on with that, you should PM them for details. I'm curious about all the deleted/alternate/extended scenes myself, and would like to watch them.

You mean jsonthegreat? Where did he mention that? On the Blu-ray.com Forum he/she hasn't post anything else after the original announcement post. Another user, jcpelc, wrote that he/she tried to send a private message to jsonthegreat, but he/she hasn't post anything else afterward. I'll probably try to send a message myself but I doubt I'll get any answer.

Star Trek Into Darkness Bonus disc (Released)

First of all, thanks to BillyBoy for his work.

Now that all the retailers' exclusive extras and the iTune commentary is somehow available, I'm troubled that there is still no sign anywhere of the XBox SmartGlass extras.

This link was already posted (by digitalfreaknyc) in this thread:

http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=8202900&postcount=4526

I'm following that thread on Blu-ray.com, but no news over there as well.

Among those extra there are 10 deleted/alternate scenes, and they are:

Deleted Scene: Captain's Log (0:44)
Alternate Scene: Original Ending of Pike's Office (1:51)
Deleted Scene: Thomas Calls Marcus (0:46)
Deleted Scene: Kirk Watches Pike Get Shot (0:48)
Extended Scene: Klingon Conversation (1:18)
Deleted Scene: Kronos Fight Before Khan Arrives (0:42)
Unused Footage from Dailies: Khan Walking Back and Forth in Brig (0:19)
Deleted Scene: Carol's Accent Explained
(0:21)
Deleted Scene: Scotty Talking to Hangar control (0:47)
Deleted VFX Scene: Vengeance Falling to Earth (0:19)

There is also this picture floating around, but nobody was able to confirm if it's from one of the deleted scenes (or if it's from the XBox contents at all).

I've done a test with an XBox and an iPad, but the SmartGlass extras are available only for US territory (and I'm not in the US).

So: does anyone has some news on this? Am I the only one who is eager to see those scenes?

Best,

Maab
