Koyaanisqatsi - IRE Fullscreen Version (MORE IMAGE!) (Released)
Time

Not too sure about that. I saw the film upon release in the theater, and the guy with the Hispanic woman, his face, even hat was visible.

Cut off in the MGM version,  the IRE version face, hat visible.

So that even when this film was shown theatrically,  by showing his face was going against what the film maker wanted? <confused>

The MGM version was a hack job of a release and here's the proof

The difference is very stark. In the MGM version, you only see up to the guys chin, while the IRE version shows his full face.

When the film was released, I'm sure the cinematographer wanted  the screen filled.

I highly disagree with you.  I remember this scene, and I remember feeling like not showing his face was making some sort of artistic statement, and I liked that a lot.

I stand by my theory that this film was never meant to be seen unmatted.

To throw my 6 cents in on the "true" aspect ratio topic: My impression was that they filmed it assuming it would be displayed in both ratios, so they shot it so that it would look good in either. There may be more information in the full screen print, but the widescreen also looks quite good, and I honestly don't think you miss a huge amount. That being said, I'm glad people have preserved the fullscreen print for posterity.

Siliconmaster, I have seen both versions. The "letterbox" MGM version leaves alot out.

There is one scene in particular, a businessman walking across a city street with an attractive Hispanic woman.

The difference is very stark. In the MGM version, you only see up to the guys chin, while the IRE version shows his full face.

When the film was released, I'm sure the cinematographer wanted  the screen filled.

LOL understood jedi.  Not much of a Beatle fan also.

Originally a few people paid $180 for this  Koy disc to fund the Trilogy.

There is not many out there.

I was one of them. When I found out  MGM was releasing the DVD in 2001, I pre-sold my IRE copy on eBay for $300 (thats how I currently got my starting price).

When I bought the MGM version, I was totally mad on how inferior this copy was, and spent 3 years looking for another IRE version.

I ended up getting the one I now have on eBay at an estate sale in 2004.

Will let this site know how the sale goes.  If it doesn't sell, I will just keep it.

The only comparison I can give on this is a Beatle album "Yesterday and Today".

I can get copies of this album for relatively cheap. But the original cover of the 'butcher cover' sells for over $10,000.

The content of both albums sound exactly the same, but the hard to find original is what collectors are after.

Thats why I'm selling the IRE edition for this price.

I have decided to put this on eBay.

Here's the link:

LOL, $300? good luck with that one, hope it sells for you, that is why people torrent, way cheaper.

Yeah, but torrent is just a burned copy. This is an original IRE release.

I have 6 torrent discs of this version.

I put the eBay ad in yesterday, and I already have 4 'watchers' on it.

We will see...

^^^  I have that copy. Horrible version compared to the IRE one.

I doubt it, ive just made it.

Now I'm confused.  I was comparing the MGM release vs the IRE version.

If you burn a copy, are you burning from the MGM version or the IRE version?

What I have is an original IRE release disc with Roggio signature, and I was wondering what the value was.
