The Bad Batch (animated series) - a general discussion thread
Time

The first two seasons were a surprise to me for how much I enjoyed them, but I still decided to keep my expectations in check. It was an alright season. There were some very good episodes, other were a waste of time. I think it was a let down after season 2 but I’m satisfied with the ending. There were so many stupid paths they could have taken instead of what we got.

Tales of the Empire

I’m interested in the Barriss Offee episodes finally explaining her story, but will give the Morgan Elsbeth episodes a miss.

Was this meant to come out before the Ahsoka series did? (It seems set up material for Morgan and how she became so loyal to the Empire and Thrawn, but would have been better to show this before the Ahsoka series and her lackluster ending in that show).

It’s crazy how much they have been jumping around the same small time frame of the universe with all these spinoffs. Telling a story like this gets increasingly harder, specially when all those plot lines are interconnected.

I’m not sure how I feel about the final season after watching that trailer. I do like the show, but also wish Star Wars would stop resurrecting long dead characters.

I’m worried they will pull a

“somehow, Tech returned” since they didn’t show his body on that episode.

That would be an extremely cheap move.

Episode 2.5 - Clone Wars
Time

The real main issue with The Phantom Menace is that it barely advances the story. You can’t have actual romance between Anakin and Padme because the age gap is too big, and Obi-Wan does nothing for most of the movie while Anakin bonds with a guy that gets killed in the end, thus you don’t get to see their friendship. The Clone Wars also have no development because we just see a precedent that isn’t that important.
The next two movies suffer a lot from having pick up the slack. It’s frustrating to watch CW03 and TCW and see all those interesting (and better) stories that were left out of the movies.
My proposal would be to somewhat merge TPM and AotC into a single Episode 1 while placing the beginning of the war to before the movie starts and explaining it in the title card and through exposition (like the OT did).
Episode 2 would start with the Battle of Coruscant and go on with a plot similar to the cartoons, my picks would be the Mandalore arc from TCW and stuff from CW03 for Anakin.
Episode 3 would be like RotS from the point Anakin turns to the Sith extended into a whole movie, but instead of Order 66 we would see the hunt being something that took more time, and Vader participates in it.

'The Mandalorian & Grogu' (Upcoming Movie) - General Discussion Thread
Time

Not sure how to feel about this. I loved The Mandalorian but I wish it had been made into movies instead of a show, some stuff on the series was clearly filler for the main story (even if not bad). But how are they going to follow up on S3? I thought it was a finished story by then and it was already stretching what it should have been. Is Gideon going to somehow return?
I wanna watch this in a theater but I’ll wait for reviews first.

Apparently there were message boards discussing the OT back in '83.
Time

I know this thread is very old, but there is something I believe it’s worth being pointed out:

Take a closer look into this review

[…] I suspect that the Emperor is NOT dead, but that he used the Force
to teleport away from the Death-Star; that blinding flash was a manifestation
of this activity. The Emperor had a very good reason to escape at that point,
the shield generator had been trashed, and the destruction of the Death-Star
was imminent. He realized that he didn’t have enough time (and/or stamina) to
kill both Skywalkers with the blue bolts, and hoped that they would die in the
explosion of the Death-Star. This conjecture is supported also by my extensive
experience with the Universe of Marvel Comics, wherein a character is not dead
unless you see the corpse, and perhaps not even then. […]

Not a bad guess lmao.

Ahsoka (live action series) - general discussion thread
Time

This show made me wish Disney Plus had a double speed option. The dialogue was painful with all the sighing and pauses and the monotone. It felt like 20 minutes episodes stretched to ~40 minutes almost the whole time.
All the characters I liked from the previous shows were downgraded here in some way. Ahsoka is boring, Hera lost her assertiveness, Thrawn feels like he is just pretending all the failures are part of some master plan, and Sabine is just irresponsible to the point of being an insult to herself in the cartoon. The only ones I think were portrayed correctly were Chopper and Ezra, but I didn’t really like him in the cartoon anyway.
It also highlights how much the sequels bring down the franchise for anything past RotJ, the new republic being incompetent in the way presented is just very disappointing. The lack of OT characters in this also feels odd.
But I feel kind of guilty to say that I enjoyed some aspects quite a lot. The aesthetics are just right and I think Baylan and Shin were cool.

What do you think of The Prequel Trilogy? A general discussion.
Time

I started getting into this franchise not long ago after years of avoiding it, so I have no nostalgic attachment to it. (I had watched some of it as a kid with my parents but the movies did not get my attention at the time so I mostly forgot what I saw then)
I don’t have anything new to say about the prequels but I want to highlight that the greatest problem in them is just how much TPM doesn’t advance anything in the plot or relationships.
In the grand scheme of all the trash that gets released into movie theaters, I think the prequels are fine action-adventure space movies, even good at certain points. I see the bad reception as a result of Lucas getting out of touch but also the fans have massively high standards set by an overrated perception of the originals. Prequel fans are accused of being nostalgia biased but the same is true for OT fans who can’t see the issues in those films.
I respect ANH knowing the time it came out and the limitations in technology and budget, but it is a movie that didn’t age well. RotJ has many of the flaws that plague the prequels but it’s not acknowledged enough even by those who criticize it. ESB is the only Star Wars film I believe deserves it’s legendary status, the only things that rival it in quality are the 03 Clone Wars cartoon and a few episodes from TCW.

The Original Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

What annoys me about the sister twist is that there was a thousand ways the “another one” could have been done and they choose one of the most awkward options. All ESB had established was that Luke wasn’t their only hope. It didn’t had to be a sibling or something like that.

One way I think this could be fixed is by just stating that Leia was also force sensitive but no blood connection. It is consistent with ESB (including the scene where she communicates with Luke), the twist mostly remains the same, Vader can still taunt using her and there is no incest.

I believe this change could be done with AI voices, though I’m not sure what the opinion on AI is favorable here and I don’t have the means to do it myself right now.
