Oups, I didn’t see that about the shot 29 but it’s corrected now !
Oups, I didn’t see that about the shot 29 but it’s corrected now !
All right, all the Exegol footage with crackling saber is available here (purple version) :

I’ll make available the blue version when I have time for those who are interested.
Hey everyone ! I’m done with working on the DS fight for the crackling saber and I don’t intend to modify the shots from now (but I can always share the AE files so that one can make the modifications wanted). All the shots are available here, now the only thing needed is to reunite them !

I’ll try to share the Exegol sequence next week.
I offered to help Luka with scenes and wasn’t aware Kewlfish completed any scenes?
I’ve almost finished working on the Exegol sequence and the DS fight between Kylo and Rey but indeed, there are some scenes left to do : the end of the sequence on Kijimi and the small fight between Rey and “Darth Rey”. So if you want to take care of that, it would be great.
Btw, did Kewlfish make the scenes he worked on available before he left ?
Here’s an attempt using that reading of “a”:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xQZgJAc1umsYUKpgjEEc8DcrBCXnZsrg/view?usp=sharing
I think this works perfectly fine (but I’m not an English native speaker so…) !
What if she just responded to “I AM ALL THE SITH!” with “I am a Jedi.” She’s finally accepting her role and place in the story, and it’s a nice callback to the “I am a Jedi, like my father…” from ROTJ
Actually, changing this line would also bring more symbolism about the opposition between Sith and Jedi (although I don’t know so much about the SW lore) : the Sith get more and more powerful by having the master taking control of its apprentice (as explained in the movie, thus why Palpatine is “all” the Sith), while the Jedi become more and more powerful by passing on their knowledge to the new ones (thus saying that you’re “a” jedi is enough to imply that you carry with you all the Jedi knowledge, an idea pretty well symbolized with the Force ghosts in the scene).
Thank you all for your help ! I think I’ll share an alpha render, the AE files and the movie version I’ve worked on (I couldn’t work on the original version, I have the Blu-Ray but no device to extract the movie from it). I might DM some people here for more advice when I’m fully satisfied with what I’ve done.
Also, I checked what Kewlfish did, I think we used the same plug-in since my version of Luke’s saber is quite consistent with his.
Yes, my intention was to give access to the AE files (.aep), do you think it will work ? And I will also upload the version I’ve worked on (Skenera’s LUT).
Yes Brewzter, I think it won’t be a problem, the tracking of Luke’s saber is done with another layer on AE, I’ll just have to change the video on which the effect is applied.
So I’ve improved part 1 of the Exegol fight (indeed, it was way too subtle, thanks for the feedback) and I’ve finished part 2 :

Hi ! I’ve started working on the Exegol sequence. Here’s part 1 :
pw : fanedit
DominicCobb, I didn’t find a good effect on AE to do what you asked, I know that it is possible on DaVinci Resolve with Fusion but for mysterious reasons, I can’t manage to have Resolve working on my computer.
Also, I’m having real trouble to handle the crackling effect on close-up shots of the saber, so please feel free to take a look at it if you think you can improve it.
One last question : which version of Leia’s saber should I work with for the Exegol sequence ? Blue or purple ?
Ok guys, here’s the final part of the DS fight : https://vimeo.com/492230855

I’ll try to improve the close-up shots of the saber in part 2 tomorrow.
And unfortunately, I don’t have the original material of the movie on my computer, that’s why I’m working with Hal’s version. But that shouldn’t be a problem, I can provide the After Effect files of each shot, then replacing the video with the original shot of the movie would be the only work needed.
OK, thank you all for your advices, indeed I’ll try to see tomorrow if I can make the edges of the effect a bit smoother. Here’s an improved version of part 2 :
And here’s a first draft for part 3 :

OK, I tried to increase the crackling, is it better ? My fear was that on a TV screen, it became too visible but I might be wrong.

Please feel free to give me your feedback, I personally think that the beginning needs improvement.
Great, I’ll try to finish the Death Star fight before he returns. And well, I don’t think I can do anything about this issue, I’m really just a beginner with After Effects, sorry…
Thank you all for your feedbacks ! I’ll try to work on it in the next days. And no, Chase, the impact sparks were already here.
Hey everyone, it’s been a while !
Today I’ve made a first short attempt at recreating the crackling saber, in the absence of Kewlfish.
Here’s the link : https://vimeo.com/490511813

If you think it’s worth it, I could try to complete Kewlfish’s work.
I’d rather just leave it how it is this feels like too much.
I agree it’s quite a change but it helps with giving a meaning to the fight imo.
Hey guys ! I understand why you would like to use DOTF during this fight since it was in the advertisement for the movie but imo, it isn’t really fitting story-wise. To me the purpose of this fight is to show Rey’s descent towards the dark side with her eventually stabbing a weaponless Kylo. So I made a quick try to rescore the scene with this “Dark Rey” theme made by Levente Kovacs on YT and I really like how it turned out. What do you think ?

this thread may be the better place to post that.
Well yes you’re right, I’ll do that, sorry.
Here’s a quick try (sound is not great) for an idea I posted a few days ago : removing Rey in the X-wing shot at the end of Exegol. The video is quite long for such a small change, it’s just to see how it flows. IMO it’s more consistent regarding Rey’s feelings at that moment. So what do you think ?

That’s really great ! But I agree with what someone said before, grey looks a bit reddish, it would be even more spooky if the grey color was more desaturated 😄
Well, +1 for me too.
I understand that this scene is a little absurd from a technological point of view but by removing it :
-it hurts the pacing
-it makes the next scene on Ajan Kloss feel weird, with Finn popping out of nowhere
-it makes it unclear how the Knights of Ren were able to follow Rey and co on Kijimi later in the movie
So it seems a good compromise to keep it in the movie. The only issue would be to remove Klaud from some shots…
Yeah, about the ending : Hal, have you considered removing the shot of Rey in the X-wing at the end of the battle ?
It completely lessens the impact of Ben Solo’s death in my opinion, let alone the fact that it’s just a copy of another shot in the movie with blood added on Rey. It would be more emotional if the first time we saw Rey after the battle is at the Resistance base. Besides, it would give extra-room for the music during the celebration sequence, meaning more planets…
