J/K … I’ve been following (but not posting in) your R&R threads on Reddit for a couple years now. (I know this isn’t your first Rock & Rule post here on OT, ala “All the different versions”.) I’m hoping someone miraculously finds, and gives you a 35mm print of Rock & Rule to scan+remaster as it’s obvious no one would put more care into that than you would. (Too bad about the crushed shadow detail and such on the DVD+BD. :SadFace: )

I don’t have anything super to contribute here beyond my silliness-plus above so hitting “Post” now.

I wish I could scan a 35mm print. I’ve heard of one being sold but I have no clue weather or not its a 1983 print or a 1985 “Ring of Power” print. I am looking for a Japanese LD which I hope someone here can help with. I had to wait a year for a rip of the US Laserdisc.

Yes, it is the US Disc. Both it and the Japanese use the same cut MGM made and was later slapped with the “Ring of Power” title in 1985 which was the version used for the Blu-ray but with the original title sourced from a tape.

A rip of the 1986 MGM Laserdisc of 1983’s Rock & Rule (Also known as “Ring of Power” outside the US) which sadly is a pan and scan master (same as the 1984 VHS) but it has the best light transfer compared to the crushed blacks of the DVD and Blu-ray. DM me for link to rip.

A simple (and now completed project) to make a soundtrack from the music of the 2007 Transformers Game. All tracks are using the lossless PC audio except the bonus Hoover Ext which I sourced from the Wii port. All main missions are there and with proper credits.

I thankfully found a guy with the Japanese LD or Rock & Rule and got a lossless audio rip of it. Now it’s synced to the BD which I’ve made public. PM me if interested. I also have a rip of the US LD if anybody wants it.

The film edit of the 5-parter opening to the hit Disney series uses a notably lesser quality master than what is seen on DVD. I am hoping to get a LD rip (with lossless audio track) and reconstruct the film version using the DVD with the Laserdisc audio. The main issue is I lack the laserdisc of the film version. If anyone had a copy or rip If u can send a rip that would be steller!

I did get the audio from the disc from a guy on Discord and have it synced to the Blu-Ray but I am looking to get a rip with the video to compare to the other versions I have. Said versions include: 2010 Blu-Ray, 2005 Screener DVD, 1988 CBC Tape and 1986 MGM Laserdisc which is the same transfer as the 1984 VHS. Both the Blu-Ray and Screener DVD use the same 2005 HD master with the screener being in 4:3 Open-Matte with the final being 1:85:1. If anybody can rip the video from the 1985 Japanese LD that would be amazing!

US Cut Not sure about the transfer but I do have the audio which is a massive step above the MGM VHS and LD.

Rock & Rule is Nelvana (Yes, the Star Wars Holiday Special guys) first film and it bombed hard. It has had a few releases over the years. Here is a list of all of the ones I know.

1. US MGM Theatrical Cut

2: 1984 Pan & Scan VHS (Ported to LD in 1986)

3: 1985 Japanese LD

4: 1985 Ring of Power Re-release (Prints for this used for DVD and Blu-Ray)

5: 1988 CBC Tape (The original cut before MGM recut the film that aired on CBC)

6: 2005 Screener DVD (Same HD Master as BD but in Openmatte)

7: 2005 Mass Market DVD (With CBC Tape on disc two due to Directors personal 35mm copy of the original cut being lost)

8: 2010 Blu-Ray (Same 1080p transfer made in 2005)

9: 2015 Spanish Bootleg Blu-Ray (Same as above but has the Spanish dub)

This is all of the ones I own currently (Minus the Japanese LD). I think I need help.

The 2005 Screener DVD and 1988 CBC Tape of Rock & Rule (1983) are open matte while the retail DVD and BD are widescreen. The Laserdiscs and VHS’s are pan & scan expect for the CBC tape.

Yeah, It would be sweet to see a 4K71, 73, 77THX and 78 Graffiti. I sure hope it can happen when after the THX-1138 4K is done.
