The Last Jedi : a Fan Edit <strong>Ideas</strong> thread
Time

ziggyonice said:

As I watched the film for the very first time in theaters, I was thinking to myself, “I want to cut this in my fanedit.” So many poor choices with the script, I just have trouble comprehending why they made some of the decisions they did.

  • Don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to have humor in Star Wars. I thought the humor in The Force Awakens was perfect, and I actually do not like fan edits that try to strip it all out. But the lame jokes in The Last Jedi were way over the top.

  • We need to find some way to kill Leia on-screen. I don’t want to sound like an asshole, but we know that since Carrie Fisher passed away, they’ve already said she won’t be CGI’d into Episode IX. There were opportunities in this film to have her character pass away in line with her qualities as a Resistance leader. She could have died in the explosion, or in recovery, or she could have even been the one to go kamikaze in the end and save the Resistance in the process. No idea how to handle this one.

  • And numerous other things.

I wish they wouldn’t have made so many poor choices with this film, because much of what they did can not be fixed in fanediting. And for that matter, much of it cannot be fixed for Episode IX.

Agreed.

I already got some scans from Poita and I’m waiting for more. I might use some footage from Grindhouse for patches where needed but a big chunk of it is plagued by this red flashing that becomes much more obvious when the colors are corrected, so that makes it pretty much unuseable as a primary source.

Sorry, I didn’t realise you were waiting on anything from me, please drop me an email and I’ll try to get anything to you ASAP.

I’m glad to see that you’re back on your feet Poita.

NJVC Custom Blu-ray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions now available on Mega

Yeah, everything everyone is saying makes sense, plus the fact that the stand alone film is available officially From Harmy in DVD5 format.

I guess I just wish that there had been OOT DVD’s besides GOUT.

Way back in the 90’s, pre-special edition, the “Face” VHS copies were pretty good quality for their time. Now, thanks to Harmy & NJVC, the movies can be well represented on blu-ray as well.

But DVDs never really got their fair shake at having a fully feature loaded release of the OOT. And that makes me kinda sad. Perhaps it’s just the nostalgia in me.

You’re not alone in being semi disappointed in the out not getting a decent dvd transfer.

STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **

Congratulations on the success of the challenge and meeting key milestones - absolutely well deserved ady and I can’t wait to see what you do with eps 4 and 6.

Here’s a question which I don’t think has been addressed yet: Will the Ghost (from the Rebels TV show) appear in your ROTJ (or indeed ANH)? A little cameo like your inclusion of Chopper at Echo Base would be awesome.

We know from Rogue One that Hera, Chopper and The Ghost are present at the battle of Scarif (so very much active at the time of the destruction of the first Death Star), and we now know from one of the Forces of Destiny shorts (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs_vQgnVnIM) that Hera, Chopper and The Ghost at the very least are present during the aftermath of the Battle of Endor. Given that, it’s not a huge leap to allow for their presence during the space battle of the Second Death Star - it’d be great to see it at least in the background of the odd shot.

I agree.

After tehparadox went down and all the file host links to my regrades went down with it, continuing to use file hosts was no longer an option. I will be uploading my releases only to torrents from now on and I won’t be changing my mind on that.

Be patient and give it time, I also want to be able to share my work on recent films in as high quality as possible, but the conditions have to be right and they aren’t yet.

Not being dissentive here but I question how useful 2gb and also 9gb torrents of your regrades to gauge interest in 22gb versions is. Most fans ignore lower bit uploads and the effort to seed them which muddles the results. They then become bored waiting for the ultra quality encodes since all these films have been watchable for weeks or months in various forms already.

If you check the statistics of the torrents, you’ll actually see that the vast majority of downloads are for the 2gb releases, so actually more fans are ignoring the larger 9gb releases than vise versa. The smaller 2gb releases are much more popular than the 9gb releases, that is an undeniable fact.

Watching the seed/peer/number of downloads stats of the 2gb and 9gb releases is the only way to get a good idea of which releases are more popular and decide which releases should get higher bitrate releases. Its not a perfect system but its the best I can think of.

My advice to you is don’t wait, watch the actual blu-ray when it comes out and then wait patiently for a possible 22-23gb release.

ok I undestand! no worries

conditions have to be right - does that mean high demand on your work?

There are a number of factors to consider but higher interest (or demand as you put it) than there is now is certainly one of them. Keep in mind that i’ve only been uploading these new regrades to public torrents for a month now.

I’m thinking of testing the waters by uploading the first 23gb version over Christmas as a present to you guys and seeing how it goes. I’ll pick the release with the most seeds at that time.

If you are talking about playing the blu-rays on Xbox one, you can’t. According to towne32 X-box Ones are specifically designed to not be able to play burrned media.

I have no idea what their capability for playing ISO files is. Perhaps Towne32 or another member does?

Update after lots of hours of research Xbox one do allow burned blu-rays https://www.vg247.com/2016/11/04/blu-ray-bd-r-and-bd-re-discs-now-work-on-both-xbox-one-and-xbox-one-s/

Thanks. Guess that happened quite a while back now.

Also, I made the mistake of looking at the comment section.

Does anyone know how to get their BD-50s to play on PS4s? Whenever I put my disc in the PS4, it says Unrecognized Disc. Do you guys think it is because the videos are in .m2ts file formats?

If it’s a disc that works in another blu-ray player, it probably means your PS4 has a pickier laser than the other player. I’ve only used Verbatim discs and never had an issue. But lesser quality ones might have problems. My PS4 reads discs burned using the BD50 iso files.

m2ts files are part of the blu-ray video format.

Do you know if the Xbox one can read ISO files burned onto a Blu-ray Disc

Well, as you’ve posted, Xbox One can apparently read burned discs. News to me, but I’m glad they’ve changed their ways!

But I’d just like to clarify what you’re trying to say. They way you’ve worded it sounds like you mean that there is an ISO file sitting on the disc. As in, you would put the disc in your drive and see a file named E:\Thing.iso on the disc if you browsed it.

I assume Zerome thinks you meant properly burning an ISO image to disc and not what I described above. Though maybe I’m wrong and the Xbox can do that, but I find it very unlikely.

There’s really no reason to burn a disc like that. I’ve got HDDs with .iso files that I use media players like Kodi to play back. But it’s a specialized function. If you’re going to burn it to the disc, you want to burn the iimage properly so that it reflects the contents of the image file. Otherwise you need to put the disc in your computer, mount the image on the disc, and play it. A waste of a disc, really.

Sorry if none of this is what you meant. It’s a common problem both in that people new to this burn things the wrong way, and it’s easy to describe the wrong way.

I got pre-burned DEEDS before I learned the rules.

Yes it can. I have played the DEED on it.

My Adobe Premiere Elements Photoshop 2018 is not working the way it should. IE: it keeps colouring over my tracing layer. Any suggestions would be great. If anyone could also please suggest a better version to use or an alternative to the version I have that would also be great.
