The fact is that when watching letterboxed material from analog displays (CRT TVs etc) using zoom from TV is better than digitally making the letterboxed material anamorphic (resizing it) when mastering. With digital displays (LCD etc) it's different because the digital resizing has to be done nevertheless in the display.

So in this case analog zooming (or resizing) is better than digital. That's that.

But with modern resizing alcorithms the advantage is so small that most of us won't notice it. Alcorithms like lanzcos etc.

Anamorphic is still far better than letterboxed but only in case when the anamorphic DVD can be made from proper source - not from letterboxed material.

I also prefer the DVD anamorphic rather than letterboxed. Simply because in the future I might not be able to use analog zooming.

Liteoni it should be possible to convert the set using almost no recompression at all. certainly no recompression on the front cover/spine would be easy. Your best bet is to still save it in JPEG format because it's already gone through lossy compression to get to it's state, so you may as well sacrifice more quality since you aren't gaining anything by not. If people want it the same quality as the original JPEG they can do it themselves.

Daniel

Yes I said it's _theorically_ better because of one less JPEG compression... But that was not the real reason to use PNG. The real reason is that the .png file size is actually smaller than original .jpg Though when i zipped those 4 files as someone requested the jpegs package was smaller. Not much though. But I don't want to keep my covers in archives so I just use PNG.

I uploaded the Minimalistic Ink Saver Definitive Collection cover set also in png format. It's lossless so it's theorically better, though you propably won't be able to see the difference. I changed the link in my earlier post to point at this png set. I'll remove the jpg set in about hour or so (don't want to do it right away 'cause some of you are downloading it at the moment I think)

If someone want's also episodes V, VI and the SM just ask me.

Looks very nice!

Yes, I´d love to see V, VI & SM done the same way. Is it possible for you to make all 4 of them available to download in a ZIP file in high resolution? Like to print them out.

Here you go. Negative Cerbero Minimalistic Cover Set

Something like this? I left the background like that. Could made it also pure white but in my opinion it's better that way. That's just an example, I can edit them all and host them if someone would like to...

Yea but Pagz just posted it way much bigger than that. Doesn't matter if it's white text on black or the other way around 'cause I can just use 'negative' option in Gimp.

Gimp is a free image manipulation program if someone haven't heard of it... but I think everyone has

It should be noted that I did not recompress the spine or front cover. Here are the

What does that "Analogously PHX Mastered" mean? I haven't never heard of such thing... Have you just made it up or is there officially such thing at all?

And it would be great if someone could give me the "IV", "V" and "VI" symbols made with the font that says those episode names on the spine of the cover. Because I would like those symbols on the spine as well...

Thank you.

And if someone needs some of the original trilogy DVD covers maybe I could upload them to my serverspace. I don't have them all but some. Ask if you need.

BUT I understand the PAL transfers actually BITE - real bad

Some early PAL DVD (and why not LD too) mastering was done by simply stretching NTSC DVD material to PAL resolution. So if those LD PAL releases are done like that, they are worth nothing unfortunately...

The only advantage they would have would be that the NTSC->PAL stretching could possibly be much better than modern PCs can do nowadays. And I doubt that seriously.

Now if there is somewhere a LD PAL release made directly from original film material, that would BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF NTSC

No one wants a DVD-R that has so small resolution as NTSC... And if you use Computer (HTPC) to watch your DVDs you can slow down the speed to original 24fps with ReClock.

Go for the PAL my friend! PAL has the Force in it!

But unfortunately I don't think there are any PAL versions existing... that's quite a problem...

Where'd you find that cover that has been specifically designed for the anamorphic set?

Could you upload it, and the other covers for ESB, ROTJ, and Supplemental Materials.

Cheers

Well, you could go and try to explore that address where the sample picture is... Who knows, maybe you could find two different sets specifically for the anamorphic set. Not my work though.

If you have at least names for those 79, 73 and 72 chapters (BTW why on earth so many) in anamorphic version I could maybe try to do some chapter inserts. I'm not so big Star Wars -fan myself that I could come up with good chapter names... But I Think I could manage the graphical work though.

Well... I know I post a bit too much to this topic perhaps... I'm sorry about that.

But I would like to know if there are any chapter paper art (I don't know what to call it) for inside the dvd box matching the 'original trilogy anamorphic ld rip' -version. There are numerous pics of all kind of things in this thread but most of them doesn't work any more and it's _very_ confusing...

BTW, if you think it wouldn't be too risky legally to host best ones of these pictures permanently on a page I would have 50MB of useless page on a pretty good server in Finland. Is it too risky?
