Yeah, "as long as you stick with them" is the key. Fairweather fans are the pits.

Prime example is when the Jags were losing last season the games were always blacked out because the ticket sales were down. People didnt start going because they cared and couldnt watch on tv. The games stayed blacked out, and the stadium stayed "empty."
This year when they were undefeated we didnt even get one sell out crowd!! Now that they have beaten the Colts I wonder how it will be? My mom is a big Steelers fan, so she bought tickets for that game - but it wasnt near selling out.

How ideal would it be if all fans were like Packers fans? Those clowns, and I use the term endearingly, will fill Lambeau no matter how cold it is, and no matter how bad the Pack is doing. Die-hard.

One of the most uncompelling aspects of the PT, imo, is the love story between Anakin and Padme. It goes along with what most of you guys are saying - I guess GL is trying to be non-formulaic. As far as I can tell from watching (until the last 2 minutes) they have about as much chemistry as...well, two persons with no chemistry. The relationship that we see through Ep.II is so pitiful...
As far as the other characters are concerned, I dont find any of them to be as accesible as OT characters. In Ep.I the relationship between Obi-wan and Qui-Gonn was pretty good, and honestly I enjoyed many aspects of that movie(though overall I though it bland at best). In Ep.II - it all just seems so mechanical. The master-pupil relationship is nothing like Obi-wan and Luke, nor Yoda and Luke. The most "genuwine" emotion we get is from young Boba...*barf*

And I really must agree that in the OT even the droids and aliens were accesible. I think the C3-P0 dynamic that develops with the different characters is wonderful.

I think the Sox will sweep. After tonight they just seem to be out-performing the Cardinals in just about every category. Lowe still feels like he has something to prove, and Manny is debatably hot right now on both sides of the ball.

I think that if the Sox lose tomorrow, it could very well deflate them. They wont get another good start from Schilling.
Its too bad though, id love to see them win at Fenway. But I agree with whoever said that the majority of fans just want them to win, it could be on the moon for all they care!

My faith in the PT might be restored.

I dont think that leaving the UN entirely is in the best interest of the US. I dont have a very high opinion of the UN, but I think the best route would be for the US to take a stronger interest in the UN and try to reform some of its stances. If we feel its ineffective as an intermediary for the world, then we need to change it.
Im sorry, I just dont think that Isolationism is effective for a nation. Especially not one as dependent as the US is on foreign "stuff" (for lack of a better category). And I do think that this can change as well. But even if the US becomes self-sustained in terms of energy/commerce/etc. we still have ties to the world.

In the case of Iraq specifically, I think that the UN was horribly inefficient. However, I think that the US could have allowed inspection to continue. And the US could have applied more pressure to its allies in the UN to get the process sped up or tightened up. I just wonder, if we had given them 3 more months and they had come forward to say they had no weapons, and no legitimate components/plans/etc. would we have been satisfied. Would Bush have blazed his path into the Middle East anyways? All hypotheitical, and at this point, truly not worth entertaining beyond that.
I think that the best thing for the US would be to invest more time and effort into the UN. Apply pressure to our allies to get the UN shaped into a tool we can agree with. As a concept, the world needs the UN. In practice, as with many things, the reality falls short of the ideal.

Not to completely discredit, or go against I guess, starkiller's post and link - but I live in Florida, so I think I have a pretty accurate grasp on the voting scene here. Im by no means saying that report is wrong, but I think it is oversimplifying to say that the only voters turned away were felons. There is a very strong case, still present in Florida and especially my county (Duval, Jacksonville) of minority voters having their ballots discarded before the initial count, and being prevented from voting all together.
I AM NOT SAYING THAT THE ELECTION WAS STOLEN. NOR AM I JUSTIFYING THE DISENFRACHISEMENT OF MILITARY VOTERS. Im just saying that the case is not as clear cut as some people/reports would have you believe. I know that in my county especially, there are a large number of non-felon citizens who feel their votes were not counted for a number of reasons - the least of which is not race.
At any rate, its sad how far we have spiraled. You would think that things would be a lot tighter this election. Here is first hand experience pointing otherwise. My girlfriend lived in Ohio until about 4 months ago, and she hadnt registered in Florida. She happened to be home last week and went to vote early. When she got there, the people running the poll handed her a ballot without asking for her registration or ID. She voted, sealed the envelope and gave it back. She was never asked for any identification - to prove she was registered, from Ohio, or even old enough to vote!! I just dont understand. It raises many serious questions in my mind about the legitimacy of elections in America.

I certainly hope that the absentee ballots for Pa are counted. It would be unjustifiable if they were not. Regardless, I think this election will be a mess. As somebody else already said, there will be at least one lawsuit. Ive heard from a number of media outlets that America will know by noon on the 10th who the President is. Who knows if that will hold up?

What is wrong with this picture??

Maybe the city had a surplus of those signs with the guy walking, and when they added those "wait for walk" signs, they hadnt considered the wasted money. So they used the left over signs of the guy walking. Or maybe vice versa, or maybe the "wait for walk" signs were added later. Or maybe the explanation is this: "Mice are telepathic. Everything is made of mice."

Bush Smarter Than Kerry?
Time
Thats amusing Kingsama. I fully understand the point, but will have to maintain that "Bush is dumb" has never been on my list of reasons not to vote for him...at least, if Ive said it, I havent said Kerry is smarter. More eloquent and versed in a foreign language sure, but not "smarter."

I think anyone who honestly believes that George W. is dumb is completely out in "left" field. (hardy-har) That article already cited most of the situations I would...however, considering the Rangers record while Bush was the owner, I might leave that off the list

Forget the plot, we want action!

I have to add, after consideration, a few more action sequences. The lightsaber duel in RotJ is top notch. The haunting music is really a compliment to the overall scene, not to mention when Luke takes Vader's hand...the look on his face...I love it.
And as far as the PT is concerned, the lightsaber battle at the end of PM, are people calling this Duel of the Fates (sorry for my ignorance I dont care much for the PT so ive not invested much time in making myself familar with it).
I was heavily disappointed with the Yoda vs. Dooku duel...thats all I have to say about that.

To starkiller, and somewhat to Kingsama: those are really excellent points you bring up. To be honest with you guys, while I watching the Republican Convention I found myself really supporting many of Bush's economic plans/ideaologies. I guess I try to play the Devil's advocate with those issues because I just dont trust that things play out like politicians say they will (pretty simple truth). I still think that Bush leaves too much opportunity for large-scale business to go UN-taxed, and leaves many loopholes which work in opposition to American domestic employment, etc. Im by no means saying that Kerry is the model we ought to run by. I think the record of Heinz is horrible, ive seen the facts.
I guess I have to say, economically im more in favor of Bush. But everything else I side decidedly against him on. So I try to question that economic stuff more. I feel like the only way you can be sure of your stance is if you have to defend it.

The majority of my dissent with Bush comes from outside his economic policy.

Im glad to see so many people agree about this. This is one of the biggest faults I see in American voters. People seem to think they have a grasp of the issues, but so frequently you find they are basing their opinion off of what they are told by an authority (pastor, professor, mass media). Its unfortunate, and I think that it is due for change. I think this election will set records for number of first time voters...and by the time the next election rolls around people will be more motivated to "get smart" on the issues. Thats a lot of wishful thinking though.

I really hope that yesterday wasnt an indication of the effect that Jerry Rice will have on the Seahawks offense. They just got upended by a suprising Arizona defense. I think they will get back on track this week though. I think you might have some pretty good stats from Hasselback before the year ends.

Kingsama, I definitely agree with you about the UN. In all honesty, I can understand the perspective of George W. when he basically told the UN we were going into Iraq with or without them. Not that I initially supported the war, I didnt. But seriously, with the UN's track record I would have felt like (if I was Bush) that I needed to take matters into my own hands. At least, I can understand why he would think that. I still fundamentally oppose the War in Iraq, and all war for that matter.

I think this has been a great thread, though it seems to be losing steam. I think we have all debated the topic very affluently, gotten our views expressed civily, and come to a pretty even ground. Perhaps Ill start a new thread with a new topic, and we can attempt the same thing. Congrats to everyone who posted, this thread has restored some of my faith in humankind as rational.

P.S. Shimraa, please go ahead and post your writing. This thread would be fine, we can just continue in a new direction if necessary, or you could make a new thread if you like. Either way ill keep an eye out.

Jim Ward on SE Changes...

But that was before they went back and made Nemo and Merlin eels...man, after that the sales just dropped. Its a good thing that Pixar went back and changed that.

As for that approximation by Jim (regarding the 5 people who thought the changes were controversial)...Im thinking he and GL have been hitting the pipe a little too much out at Skywalker Ranch. For some reason their heads just arent clear anymore.
Somebody else noted, and its really funny. If only 5 people were upset about the changes...how the hell did it make it into a question...why is there and interview about the changes...weird.

She's still a girl to my eyes and has more of a cute side. As for her wardrobe in the Prequels, it is as revealing as that of a nun.

Personally, who's really hot in the Star Wars universe is hands down Harrison Ford. As a kid, I used to find Mark Hamill really cute but as I got older, Harrison got the nod. He's in fact quite a good looking dude yet not so much to the point of almost looking feminine. In short, his looks is what a handsome MAN should look like.

I agree about Portman, she does seem to girlish for me to consider her "hot." And as for Han Solo, all I can say is, "Who's scruffy lookin'?"
