Info & Chat: 50th anniversary merch... that you'd like to see released / want to acquire?

It appears more ‘50th Anniversary’ merch - mainly official and some unofficial - is now becoming available…

Book, Magazine, Comic, Manga, Shooting Script for Star Wars, Audiobook, Calendar, Advent Calendar, Annual, Watch, Jewellery, Cap, T-Shirt, Sweater, Jacket, Concert, Poster, Badges, Bags, Stickers, Coins, Stamps, Collector Cards, Glassware, Mug, Tumbler, Lego, Funkos, and Hasbro (Kenner / Palitoy retro) with more Hasbro (Kenner / Palitoy retro) - and undoubtedly more to come.

That is a lot so far, and we’re not even in 2027 yet, but nothing there appeals to me. I hope next year we’ll see far more products included, with more merchandise on the re-release of the film itself.

Lucas once again tries to justify his Special Edition alterations: "Fans are doing it."
Time

Most movies aren’t finished; they’re simply yanked out of your hands and put in the theaters. So you’re always saying. ‘Oh, I wish I could have just finished that one piece of thing’. But then I went back, after Star Wars, and redid all the movies, in terms of finishing them. So that they’re actually finished. A lot of people got upset about that, because they said, ‘You’re not allowed to do that.’ I said, ‘Fans are doing that. They’re making alternate versions and all kinds of stuff.

Fans weren’t doing that at the tie of his 1997 special editions, were they? I think The Phantom Editor wasn’t until 2000-2001? And nobody was suppressing the original cut release like George did.

George also called his 1997 SE “The Final Cut”, so maybe he is talking about “You’re not allowed to do that” for when the 3 other releases happened years later?

The only Superclass Executor I’ll ever have is a VHS tape box in a metal tin. And unlike the early run mine is not signed by David Prowse. I wish it was.

I didn’t know he did that. Was it hand signed or one of those signature replica machines?

It’s cool, but I still prefer onecase’s MOC:

Mould King’s version of this MOC (13134) has more pieces than the Lego set and costs a fraction of it…

Now that looks even better than the official LEGO release!

The new Lego Star Wars Star Destroyer, the longest Star Wars vehicle ever made, and costs £649.99 in the UK, $799.99 in the US, and €749.99 in Europe.

Brick Fanatics did a good video explaining the history of these type of vehicle releases, and why they cost so much, the Halo Effect, the quality of the sets, alternative options, and other related things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idnsjHOYMz4

It is far too expensive for me, I’ll wait to see the MOC builds and unofficial sets from Ali Express, before making a decision.

What Do YOU Think Star Wars Should Do Next?

I’ve been pondering the “what next” question for Lucasfilm, especially with Star Wars Starfighter on the horizon.

Instead of ignoring or hiding from the franchise’s history, I think a brilliant path forward would be to coordinate the project alongside a hypothetical, multi-month theatrical reissue of the completely unaltered, unedited 1977 original trilogy cuts.

By stripping away subsequent CGI alterations and editing changes, these original versions offer a massive “artificial scarcity” advantage that standard streaming platforms just legally can’t replicate right now. It feels like a rare win-win scenario that could work heavily in Disney’s favour commercially, while finally giving us the archival releases we’ve wanted.

I wrote up a quick breakdown analysing how this strategy could benefit both the studio and the fans https://grafxflow.co.uk/blog/general-discussion/2027-star-wars-pivot-how-disney-should-weaponise-nostalgia-and-fix-box-office

I wish they’d do something like that, or other ways of making it an event, like they used to do. I think they may use it as a way to promote Starfighter, which is okay, but would rather see the the re-release be the main event.

What do you think of The Prequel Trilogy? A general discussion.

Cloak of deception also really elevated Phantom menace and the prequels for me. It elevates the politics of the prequels in a great way.

I haven’t read much of the Prequel books. Would this be a good book to start with, or are there other books also dealing with the political backstory and expansion of the PT?

I think it’s a good place to start. If you want to read more stories involving the politics before episode 1 you could read Darth Plagueis also. The later chapters play simultaneously with cloak of deception and kinda show the Sith’s perspective on everything. Also both Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter and Darth Maul: Saboteur have tie ins with Cloak of Deception. The former takes place immediately after Cloak of Deception.

That is very helpful, thanks. I’ll start with Cloak Of Deception, then Plagueis and go from there.
