Syncing up DVD audio with BD video
Time

GKIDS recently released a lovely-looking Blu-Ray of Hayao Miyazaki’s Castle In The Sky. The problem is that the English track is missing ad-libs from Disney’s original DVD printing from the early aughts. I have both of these and I remuxed them myself. It looks like the audio and video would sync up perfectly…if it weren’t for the fact that GKIDS slapped their logo onto the first 4 seconds before the Studio Ghibli logo, throwing everything off. Can anyone assist?

I actualy own this dvd (just arrived thismorning actualy) its no longer being sold as its creator craig who ran white lion restorations passed away in 2012, with his wife no longer taking orders from their site, i was thankfull enough to grab a copy off of ebay along with the complete series.

That’s great! Is there a way you could release it so other people could enjoy it?

Aladdin proof-of-concept (no Auto-Tune)
Time

Not quite sure where this goes, but I threw together a proof-of-concept video of “A Whole New World” from Aladdin’s 2019 remake. I used the soundtrack version of the song to create a more natural version of the scene, free from distracting Auto-Tune. The video itself comes from Disney’s music VEVO YouTube channel. I considered posting this in the fan edit section, but I was worried that it would imply some sort of commitment to making a full version of this, which I’m not sure I will (some songs, like One Jump Ahead, would be a major PITA). Move it if necessary, mods. Anyway, here’s the link (password is autotunesucks). Tell me what you think.

Fascinating. So is the “original” version of this episode different in only audio, or have there been video edits as well?

From what I’ve gathered, not only is the script and performances different, but the episode is in the original Japanese order (flashbacks throughout) instead of how the official release does it (all but one flashback crammed into the first few minutes). So presumably this older version is the more faithful to the Japanese. If you check out the clip, you’ll see that, like the Japanese version, Snowene continues to speak over Kimba’s swimming in the ocean, while she stops after a few lines in the more common version.

http://whitelionshop.kimba.biz/KimbaRestored.htm

If you don’t want to bother with the link, it’s a DVD of a recording of the first Kimba the White Lion episode’s original English version. The more common one is actually a SECOND version, commissioned for reasons unknown. This DVD is a fan-made restoration. So why am I not buying this? Because according to this page on the site hosting the shop’s website (which hasn’t been touched in years) the person who single-handedly ran the shop had a fatal heart attack in 2012. Therefore, no more discs are likely to be sold. That leaves only this low quality clip from the aforementioned deceased man as the only surviving footage online of that version of the episode. I would be ever so grateful if someone could hunt down a copy of this, because this is a piece of history that certainly doesn’t deserve to be lost.
