All Things Star Trek
Time

Is it the one TM2YC is doing? Promising indeed, if he gets back to it.

I like the Orville because it’s like classic Trek with some Seth McF humor, which I enjoy. And I’m also loving DIS for vastly different reasons, mostly unrelated to it being ST (like, there’s still morality questions and everything, but in a very different format). I think it’s fantastic the two shows are coming out at the same time, so we have something closely resembling classic Trek, and also all-new Trek, but not in the same package.

There were other effects that didn’t make it to the final cut; the blue and red lightsaber glows on Luke’s face were also left out.

See the effect on the Trailer here, at 0:27 and 0:38

Oh no, why is that?

I still think Ackbar’s, and I can’t put enough quotes around what follows, “lip sync” works better without reversing that shot.

It kind of bugs me that it’s the same reaction shot of the female pilot that was used in the firing sequence. Also, I think the Poe looking out the side window shot would work better after Ackbar, though it might be too short.

I understand it as we wouldn’t actually see what he is watching, it’s all implied. In fact, if done right, the hypothetical viewer has no idea what Anakin’s status is, so it’s kind of like a mystery, like what did Obi-Wan see in the recordings that is so horrific?

Well, really, it’s either Anakin turns to the dark side, or Anakin is killed. Then, in ANH, Obi-Wan says he got killed, and in Empire, the viewer finds out that he lied.

Why did Adywan have Obi-Wan take out his lightsaber before Vader?

I had that question as well. I think there is some clever symbolism about who is the first to turn on his lightsaber in a duel, I remember there being a video about it also. I don’t think Ady has said anything about this change though.

Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

It doesn’t follow any established formula and that bothers me.

The (action) of the (thing)
The (thing) (does something)
The/A (adjective) (noun)

The last one it sort of follows, but it’s star wars specific this time and also ‘Jedi’ has already been in a movie title. It also sounds cliche. At least it’s not dawn or rise of something. And look at that red star wars logo, that means it’s going to be Dark™, didn’t you know Dark™ equals good? Remember Empire? Empire’s the best star wars film and it sure is Dark™!!

I’m sorry, I’m just all sorts of bothered by this. I’m probably wrong and it’s just a title and it’s all going to be good, but this already seems more on the nose than TFA and I loved that film. Sorry bout all this

And, just to add another opinion to the mix, I will say that in my view the idea should be that everyone at that point knows that the FO is there and that they’ve found them, but they’re unsure of what exactly they’re going to do.

Maz decides someone has to take the lightsaber to bring it to Rey, so they go to the basement (and Finn, as someone who knows the FO, wouldn’t be against potentially hiding in there). But the FO sends TIEs to wreck the castle, which Maz wasn’t expecting them to have the audacity to do (hence why they went down there). She is angry and slightly shocked at the FO’s shameless act, cursing them to herself: “Those beasts!”

Changing this a bit. At the moment, I’m feeling Rogue One fits in between TPM and the rest of the PT, which might be mostly because I’m bored of those.

The scores are essentially (I feel) incomplete. Especially AOTC. ROTS sort of annoys me in a way because it feels quite un-Star Warsy in places (with all the epic choirs and tracks like “Padme’s Ruminations”), though I do think for the most part it’s rather consistent and a lot of great moments don’t even make it onto the OST. AOTC on the other hand tends to be boring, and though it has an amazing theme that works throughout the score (unlike ROTS), the whole climax is basically unscored which is a huge minus.

I agree with this so much.
Those scores are hard for me to compare, so my rating:
ESB
SW/ROTJ
TFA/TPM
RO/ROTS/AOTC

STAR WARS: Symphony for a Saga (Released)
Time

I’m reviving this thread to announce that I have continued what tlbauerle started, and made a Suite version of the TFA score. This isn’t an official SfaS entry, just something I decided to make and share, but it was inspired by this work.

No artwork or personal interpretation notes included in the download, but I will mention, I went a little experimental with Jedi Steps, hopefully it works. Here is the “tracklist”:
01 - Attack on the Jakku Village
02 - Rey the Scavenger
03 - On the Run from the First Order
04 - Starkiller/Awakening
05 - It’s the Resistance
06 - Husband, Father
07 - X-Wings Attack
08 - “Our job’s done here, let’s go home!”/Journey to Find Luke
09 - Jedi Steps

The total runtime is 30:32
I hope whoever listens will enjoy and/or leave feedback!
