Yeah, you’ll be able to use the actual scan later for all those screenshots which will look a lot better.

A guy on DeviantArt made some high-res textless versions of the posters.

Needs a bit of work, but I like where it’s going.

Thanks! What would you suggest me changing?

Edit: I noticed the resolution is messed up in imgur. I’ll try fixing that!

Just kinda add some elements from the existing Star Wars DVDs to have it look a bit more proper (Example: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d167/dragon_1987/starwars_rotj_dvdcover.jpg)

Hey guys I made Blu Ray cover and disc art for SW 97 in anticipation for this project!

I’m planning on doing this with the rest of the trilogy AND with TPM project. Let me know if you like them and what I could do to improve upon them.

Thanks!

Needs a bit of work, but I like where it’s going.

Yeah I’m not sure what BrightestDayFan2814’s question was regarding either.

The SE scan actually has more detail in the shadows then I was expecting. I wonder how Empire’s detail will compare to the Eastman prints of the 80s?

The shadow detail is quite good, triple-flash makes sure we get all of it, the resolution on the print is a little lacking, but the dynamic range is quite good, and the print is in far better shape than any of the original releases.

I know you said no more public examples, but can we see a frame from Empire to see what you mean?

That fighter take-off shot actually looks really natural on the print, despite the low contrast!

For comparison, here’s the blu-ray (and then some of my own adjustments):

This seems like a right time to introduce my new color matching algorithm. It’s based on the machine learning methodology used for the color grading bot, as such henceforth it shall be known as…the color matching bot.

Bluray:

Sweet! Looks great.

Alright, I’m working on a restored version of the Death Star Alderaan scene poita uploaded.
UPDATE: I’m kind of having a little trouble with trying to stabilize the film, especially during panning shots. I tried using DeShaker in VirtualDub, but that really didn’t work. Would you guys recommend anything else?

That isn’t raw, it is pretty much matched to how the print looks projected.
The raw file is a 16bit log file and looks quite different of course.

The Tatooine scenes are probably intended to look sunblasted and a high key look to get across the hot, sunbaked, dry desert feel. The black levels are certainly very elevated on the print, and the image very soft.

Ah, okay. Sorry about that.

Annoyingly, a hair got into the gate of the scanner on Reel3, and I have to rescan the entire reel.

Part of the downside of working remotely.

sigh

Anyway, here is a 720P sample, complete with dancing hair, nothing done other than a very quick levels setting, thought people might want to see it in motion.

Note the Technicolor-style cue-dots/reel markers at the end. It’s about 200MB in size, I tried to make the file size small enough for anyone to get a look at it.

A higher bitrate and bit-depth version is uploading now for those who want something bigger.

EDIT: It’s up. 1.5GB. https://we.tl/SxaAFMqUAg

I love you.
