1997 Star Wars Special Edition 35mm Project (a WIP)

The progress is slow unfortunately.
There were ongoing problems with the scanner. The focus motor was failing, and then after that was repaired, we had another problem that required the entire optical block to be sent away. That caused a build up of commercial jobs waiting to be scanned, which pushed the SE scan back.
It is still in progress, but I donā€™t currently have an ETA, the scanner is running 24/7 to try and catch up with the backlog.

You good, fam. Take as long as you need.

Terminator 2 Full Frame Color Correction (ON HIATUS)
Time

I know I missed the deadline, but unfortunately, Iā€™m gonna have to put this project on hiatus for a while. Not permanent, itā€™s just that Iā€™ve had a bit of a rough month and I feel like Iā€™ve bitten off a bit more than I could chew at the moment. So Iā€™m gonna just put this aside for a little bit, do some other things, then when Iā€™ve got a bit more experience and maybe a little bit of help, then Iā€™ll come back and finish this. Iā€™m sorry I said Iā€™ll post something by the end of April only to put the project on hold. If any of you are interested in the project, PM me and I can give you whatever progress Iā€™ve made so far. Again, really sorry about this, I just felt like I should stop teasing you all with delays and just be honest.

Iā€™ve color corrected the first reel of poitaā€™s 1997 SE scan, which also serves as a color reference next to the technicolor references for my regrade. Here are the Tantive IV shots and a few Tatooine shots as a bonus:

That looks wonderful, but just a question: If itā€™s the 1997 SE, how come you didnā€™t match the colors to the Laserdisc? Iā€™m not complaining, it looks great, but just a bit curious.

Because the laserdisc colors look nothing like the theatrical colors of the 1997 SE, which was color timed using a technicolor print as a reference.

Oh, was it? I didnā€™t know that. Thanks for the clarification šŸ˜ƒ

The Terminator - Color Regrade [No Longer Available]

Okay, I kind of lied about this being done for good. I made a mistake when implementing the selective color corrections in some scenes. When adjusting the colors for scenes with lots of flames, I accidentally forgot to check if work was needed in the explosion that occurs after they leave the Tech Noir, and the explosion and burning photo in the future flashback. After looking at these scenes, I feel I shouldā€™ve done some selective work in them as well.

Does anybody who already PMā€™d me care about this, or do you not want to bother? (the changes wonā€™t be massive by any means, I just think the flames look too bright and yellowy in some shots)

I mean, if you feel thereā€™s room for improvement, then go for it. Iā€™m interested šŸ˜ƒ

Here is the current color correction as it stands.

I feel Iā€™ve done everything I can with it at this point. From the evidence available to me, this regrade seems to be extremely accurate, though not perfect, of course. The big issue with accuracy is that no two prints wouldā€™ve been exactly the same, and the specific things that would be consistent are things that I canā€™t replicate without having more complete references as well as making this a shot by shot correction. It also doesnā€™t help that the Blu-ray transfer doesnā€™t like being conformed to nicer colors, so the things that donā€™t look 100% in the ballpark like the Tech Noir will just have to stay that way. That said, Iā€™m very happy with how this all looks, and I truly believe that what Iā€™ve done is nearly as accurate as can be achieved with this Blu-ray transfer.

Iā€™ll try to get this new regrade encoded in the next few days, and then Iā€™m going to stop hosting the old regrade and put this one up in its place.

Looks great, man! Canā€™t wait!

kk650's Regraded Blade Runner 2049 (2017) (blanket yellow tint removed from blu-ray)

Thanks!

Honestly I didnā€™t see this in the cinema, was incredibly busy with work at the time and didnā€™t get round to it. I would not be surprised if was there in the theatrical release, Dunkirk had a blanket yellow tint in the cinema, I confirmed that with my own eyes. I definately think it looks much better without the blanket yellow tint though.

Thatā€™s fair. It does look nice.

Terminator 2 Full Frame Color Correction (ON HIATUS)
Time

This has always been something Iā€™ve always had on the backpedal, but Iā€™ve always wanted to actually do. To make a long story short, Terminator 2ā€™s color correction has always bugged me with every version. Whether it be with the VHS, the DVDs, the Blu-rays, theyā€™ve always looked off to me. The new 4K version looks better, but they also did a lot of revisionist stuff with that that Iā€™m not too keen on. So imagine my shock when I watch the trailer and see the colors and how much better they are there.

DVD:

Trailer:

So since I also acquired the Russian full-frame DVD recently as well as have been messing around with DrDreā€™s ColorMatch tool on some other projects, I figured ā€œWhy not color correct the film to match the trailer?ā€

So thatā€™s exactly what Iā€™m doing.

What do you guys think? Iā€™m working on this in my spare time, but I already have quite a bit done. I might also make a widescreen version if the demand is high. If you guys want to help or give further advice, please PM me.
