The Jedi, The Witch, and the Warlord (Ahsoka Movie Edit) [Released]
Time

I think I’ve seen “Master and Apprentice” used for a different edit. I like it but it doesn’t feel weighty enough for me. Another I’ve seen was “The Phantom Apprentice” which I associate more with Maul, “The Path to Peridea” which feels too impersonal, and “A Threat from Beyond” likewise feels too impersonal and just generally vague. I’ll stick with what I have for now and if I am struck with inspiration, I may change it. (and it’s totally not because I already put that title on a poster and the crawl and can’t be bothered to make new ones 😅).

Anyway, I’ve updated the main post. I have v0 ready for viewing! I am happy with this initial release and don’t consider a rough cut. The only things I currently have in mind for a v1 are embedded chapters, subtitles, and maybe a smaller file option. Though, if anyone watches it and has feedback, I will incorporate that, too.

After getting through the preliminary edits for all 8 episodes, I couldn’t bring myself to cut a lot that I had been planning to. Hayden is just too good 😅. In fact, the only noticable parts I cut are the New Republic fleet arriving on Seatos and Shin fighting alongside the raiders. The run time is currently at a hefty 3 hours. However, I’m very happy with with the pacing of everything. It moves like a motherfucker and I’m actually kind of pleased that it retains most everything from the show–just squeezed as tight as possible. It feels right. I’ll probably go through the whole thing one more time and get a version 0 out sometime this week for feedback.

Also, thoughts on naming the edit after the last episode? I love the reference to the Narnia series. The WBW is a reference to Narnia, as well.

The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!)

Damn I knew it was too long. Though I’ll stand by that I think it needs to get more specific to feel like a proper crawl.

FWIW, i was able to shorten mine to 90 words

It is a time of despair. Luke
Skywalker, sworn to rebuild
the legendary Jedi Order,
has vanished.

In his absence, remnants
of the fallen Empire known
as the FIRST ORDER have
risen from their stronghold,
Starkiller Base, to threaten
regions encroaching on
the fragile New Republic.
Funded in secret by daring
senators, General Leia
Organa leads a RESISTANCE
against the growing power.

Desperate to find her brother
and restore hope to the
galaxy, Leia sends her best
pilot Poe Dameron in search
of a clue to the last Jedi’s
whereabouts…

That last paragraph is awfully close to The Phantom Menace’s crawl. I actually like the language in the original TFA crawl as imo that last paragraph should really hone in on specific context for the opening scene.

Not that anyone asked, but i find writing crawls endlessly fun so here’s my take:

I watched it and overall it’s very well done. I do have notes:

Wow, thanks for the extensive feedback! I did think about including “A long time ago…” But I’m going to wait till I get to ep6 and decide if I want to keep Huyang’s line where he says it. If I decide to keep that, I want it to remain a meta reference to the Skywalker saga, and not an awkward meta reference to itself. I’m leaning toward that, so decided to leave it out.

Maybe someone will come up with some workaround suggestion. I only watched the show once so I dunno.

I get what you mean in not wanting to not do the exact same thing, but it’s really not the exact same thing at all. The situations are just different enough, and they are spaced apart. Morgan is talking about the one who stole the map from her and just gives Baylan her name (which is literally how it happens in the show), and Clancy Brown introduces her by name to the crowd (again, literally how it was done in the show). By doing it this way, you’re given us what the show gave us, but allowing them to mirror each other and say: These are our protagonists.

After watching through it again, I think I’ll compromise and further tighten Ryder’s speech, then cut to Sabine’s intro after he says “Where is she?”

For the lightsaber issue, I’ll see if I can keep in the scene where Hera briefs Ahsoka on Home-One while retaining a brisk pace. Baylan asking Morgan “Who is this Jedi” prevents any implication that he and Ahsoka have encountered before.

As for the Star Wars title into, I’m not sure if that’d fit with the music. The current one fades in well with the eerie violins. But I’ll play around with it.

I knew the lightsabers were going to be the iffiest thing retained. I thought it might be implied she’s encountered them before but I know that’s a stretch. It can’t be easily cut because it’s integrated into her conversation with Sabine and the subsequent reveal that Sabine has taken the map – and it’s a good development to Baylan and Shin’ characters. I may alter the crawl to make a reference to some “previous encounter with Morgan’s allies” though I am not a huge fan of altering canon.

When Ryder tells that guy to cover for him, it always gets a laugh from me. I know most people would probably cut it, but I couldn’t bring myself to. I may play around with tightening up the awkward moment so it’s not quite as cheesy though. Plus, having a character revealed after someone else says their name was already done to introduce Ahsoka. I didn’t want to do the exact same thing again.

I really like your choice of shot to introduce Ahsoka herself.

Thank you, I originally had that cut straight to her jumping out of the hole but decided the map needed it’s due introduction. To make that sequence go faster, I spliced together the shot of her turning the first pedestal with the shot of her standing up from the last one. Consequently, the shot of her smirking makes a great intro.

I believe the Ahsoka series is some of the best Star Wars has to offer but was held back by such poor editing and pacing. This movie edit remedies that by condensing the series as much as possible and comitting to a more theatrical experience. I want this edit to feel like you could view it in a theater and have it stand side by side with the other Star Wars movies. Originally, I had hoped to get the run time down much more but through editing it found that most scenes were either enjoyable or necessary and mostly just needed pacing edits. As a result, this edit can fully replace the series for first time watchers – you won’t be missing anything important.

I have a comparison trailer of the first 15 minutes to get a good sense of my editing sensibilities.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LN1BVYGQusCT7P1g6SKYqy8y0jultfWV/view?usp=drive_link

Broad changes:

  • A new traditional-style crawl was added that retains the orignal series’ music and red coloring. It is slightly condensed with some added context for those who didn’t watch Rebels. The final episode’s title was chosen to represent the edit as a whole (Its reference to the Chronicles of Narnia was compelling to me and it has the weight and whimsy I think the story deserves. The World Between Worlds is also a reference to Narnia, so it has precedent)
  • Slight color grade
  • Significantly trimmed down every single scene for pacing, adding 24 new transitions where necessary
  • Removed particularly useless/dumb dialogue, awkward pauses, and unnecessary/confusing beats

I have not kept track of every single change as it is in the hundreds. My timeline shows 493 edits.

Deleted scenes:

  • Ahsoka and Huyang’s conversation after her introduction
  • Sabine reminiscing on Ahsoka’s ship
  • Ahsoka and Hera’s conversation about Sabine after she takes the map
  • Hera talking to Sabine in the hospital
  • Baylan and Shin arriving on Seatos (scene of Baylan looking up at the purrgil reused later on)
  • Ahsoka and Hera’s conversation about Sabine on Corellia
  • Ahsoka and Sabine talking about her past training and Sabine trying to use the force on a mug
  • Hera leaving the fleet to go to Seatos
  • Baylan sending a hunting party out into the woods to attack the T-6 shuttle
  • Ahsoka waking up on the Ghost
  • The New Republic fleet arriving on Seatos and most related scenes
  • Sabine in the Eye of Sion’s cell
  • Sabine fighting the raiders on Peridea
  • Hera’s trial on Coruscant
  • Ahsoka viewing Anakin’s old training holograms
  • Baylan and Shin’s conversation while tracking Sabine
  • Shin being aided by the raiders during her attack
  • Baylan and Ahsoka’s second fight on Peridea
  • Ezra building his lightsaber
  • (there may be other minor things I am forgetting)

Rearranged scenes:

  • Moved Sabine’s conversation with Huyang in the hospital to before Ahsoka finds the droid, allowing all of Corellia to happen consecutively
  • Morgan arrives on Seatos just before Ahsoka finds the droid and goes to Corellia
  • World Between Worlds occurs immediately after the Eye of Sion enters hyperspace and is interrupted only once by the arrival of Hera on Seatos.
  • The Eye exits hyperspace as soon as Ahsoka enters hyperspace
  • Baylan speaks to Shin about old Jedi stories right before Ahsoka and Huyang talk about old Jedi stories. Huyang’s “far, far away” line then cuts to Peridea and Thrawn’s introduction.
  • Moved Ahsoka talking to Sabine about Anakin before getting attacked by TIEs to the very end (before the epilogue). This may be the most significant story change I’ve made but this keeps the momentum going in the third act and gives a nice finality to how their relationship develops.
  • (there may be other minor things I am forgetting)

Star Wars Episode II: The Approaching Storm (Released)
Time

Watching through the full saga fanedited and this is the first of yours I’ve seen (I opted for octorox’s ep I edit). Just wanted to say excellent work. Couldn’t tell what was a deleted scene and orignal, it was all integrated and edited so masterfully. The last time I watched ep II, I’m pretty sure my brother and I gave up 20 minutes in and fell asleep. It was too bad as I remember watching it a lot and loving it as a kid before ep III came out. Now, I feel like I can finally love it as much as I did back then, so thank you.

I’ll list some of my nitpicks here in case you deem them worthy of changing for a future version.

  • The lack of Dexter’s brief introduction felt awkward and unecessary. Obi-wan and this random Alien just appear in a diner out of nowhere. You can kind of figure out that Obi-wan knows this guy, but it’d be more effective imo to just leave the scene of him greeting Obi-wan from behind the counter.
  • I noticed in the changelog that ending to the packing scene was reinstated. I’m curious why that decision was made because it felt like the only thing really out of place in their love story. The rest of it was handled really well and makes their romance pretty believable, but the “it makes me uncomfortable” and his creepy stare was distracting for me.
  • The color grading for their kiss was too dark and felt out of place compared to the rest of the film’s visuals. I’m not sure if that scene really needs to be at sunset, anyway. The pear scene could easily be morning or the kiss could be the day after.
  • I understand the music transition from the kiss scene is the original music as it cuts off when Padme regrets the kiss, but it doesn’t work here. It just sounds like a poor edit. Something from “love pledge” could probably be plugged in there for a better transition.

Star Wars: Episode IX - Resolution of the Light
Time

Hello, all. I’m presenting a fully scripted 124 page rewrite of Episode IX. I hope it is enjoyed by whoever finds the time to read it! Here’s a brief overview:

Featuring exciting action based on the writing of The Force Awakens script. This is meant to be a legitimate alternative to The Rise of Skywalker that still feels as though it could have been written by JJ Abrams and belonged side-by-side with the other two sequel movies. This was initially conceptualized in 2018 after the release of The Last Jedi. I fell in love with TLJ on first viewing but after several discussions, I came to understand people’s issues with it. I conceded that it set up episode IX with a nearly impossible task to satisfyingly conclude both the sequel trilogy and the saga as a whole. But after much thinking, a few ideas came to me and the following story was birthed.

Opening crawl:

STAR WARS

EPISODE IX

RESOLUTION OF THE LIGHT

The galaxy is a hellscape! Everywhere,
there is chaos. Since Luke Skywalker’s
death, Supreme Leader Ren has destroyed
all remnants of the once mighty Empire
and the ephemeral New Republic. All that
remains is the FIRST ORDER.

But there is still a spark. As the
Supreme Leader begins a campaign to find
the source of Snoke’s power, the successors
to General Leia Organa travel across the
galaxy in secret, spreading hope and
securing valuable allies.

They have just been called to the
mountain planet of Dyama to aid in its
RESISTANCE…

Premises:

  • Rey, having taken on new students, is afraid she is not a good enough teacher and feels overwhelming guilt for any mistakes she makes. She fears she is repeating the past failures of the Jedi Order during both the republic and under Luke.
  • Finn is fired up with a vengeance against those in the First Order who have wronged him and those he has learned to care about. This is particularly realized through his rivalry with Phasma who has once again returned from the grave.
  • Poe is committed to ending this war by uniting disparate allies led by a restless Chewbacca. The wookie chose a more violent path a la Saw Gerrera. In his search for Chewie, Poe and crew visit the smuggler’s moon and meet Lando.
  • Ben is numb as supreme leader and longs for a connection he knows he can no longer have. He finds the source of Snoke’s power, a massive and ancient sith holocron, and is simultaneously haunted by the trauma he experienced from Snoke.
  • General Hux makes plans to take over Kylo’s rule and wipe out the Resistance all in one fell swoop. His first step is to convince the Resistance he can be trusted. When his treachory is found out, the Knights of Ren are called upon to protect Ben.

Conclusions (spoilers):

  • Rey learns to accept that she will make mistakes and has to trust and forgive herself. She comes to understand that she is essentially good. She refuses to kill Ben knowing it may be the greatest mistake she’s made so far.
  • Finn reunites with Rose and finds new purpose in uniting the First Order’s stormtroopers against their leaders. He learns there may be a place in the galaxy for even the Phasma’s of the world.
  • Poe and Chewbacca meet on Kashyyyk and trust Hux in a desperate bid to finally win a decisive battle. When Hux betrays them, Poe is separated from his group. He accepts he must be left to die in order for his comrades to retreat safely.
  • Ben kills Rey and regrets it. In a kind of force-guided psychological experience, Ben is greeted by his grandfather and learns he has a power within him that Anakin was only able to dream of – the power to save the one’s he loves from death. With the energy of the holocron, Ben is able to revive Rey and they share a mind-meld in which their memories are mixed together (and it is revealed in a twist that much of the story the audience has experienced up to this point is a result of this mind-meld). They come to a near-perfect understanding of one another. Ben learns to forgive and regains control of the First Order in order to de-escalate the battle and eventually dissolve it entirely, accepting whatever consequences the galaxy may have for him.
  • Hux is found along with Poe toward the end of the decisive battle and is taken into captivity.

What did you burn? The ~7GB AVCHD or the ~18GB MKV? Did you burn it onto a DVD-R DL or BD-R? What software did you use? If you used the MKV, did you convert it to a BDMV folder first, or are you just playing an MKV file that's on a disc (which the PS4 definitely wouldn't support, but many Blu-Ray players would)?

Just for future reference, would a DVD DL still work on PS4?

Yes.

And also what's the difference between AVCHD and MKV? What would work for PS4? Sorry I'm so new to all this.

MKV is a video file format. The specifics of it (like how MKV is actually just a container) aren't important for what you're asking, but suffice it to say that standalone players may or may not be able to play video files--and then only specific file types. It depends on the player as to whether it can play files and, if so, which ones. But usually if people play video files, they do so from a plugged in flash drive or external hard drive (or copied to an internal hard drive as is the case with my PS3) instead of from a disc.

AVCHD, in a nutshell, is a limited bluray format. Basically, it's lower-bitrate, menuless HD video that can be played on most standalone bluray players but is small enough in size that it can fit onto a dual-layer DVD (DVD9).

Ah, ok. Yeah that makes sense, thanks much and wish me luck!
