Hey guys, Remember when Star wars had writing like this?
Time
Be careful guys. Maybe for the super special edition of Empire George will bring in Frank Oz to redo yoda's dialogue more in line with 'his original vision'...

I actually don't really like Yoda in the PT. Part of it is the over the top backwards speak that fails to maek much sense or impact. And part of it is the fact he's now an action hero. We shouldnt have seen him with a lit saber at all imo.

didn't the fx guys pretty much convince George that they could do a fully 3d yoda? I wish they'd played that down a bit. What did George have in store for us before he was swayed to use this new digital yoda...?

and keep in mind that the Empire script passed through many [writers] hands, they really wasn't any sort of George filter on the PT scripts. Just a bunch of yesmen.

Palpy: At last the Jedi are no more!
Yoda: Not if anything to say about it i have...
Palpy : wtf? English dood!

My new project (* unfinished project *)

Hey guys i'm working on some details. If ya have any ideas or suggestions, fire away - no matter how crazy...

I'll try get up some stuff soon - even at least some place holder stuff to show you what i have in mind.

Oh and earlier when i said Prey - i meant Recruitment. But i'd consider using elements from seperate strips ie: flashback sequences and such. Basically whatever tells a compelling story.

My new project (* unfinished project *)
Time

*What is it?
I have no idea whether anyone has tackled this or similar but I had an idea the other day and I just can’t shake it. I am now planning on creating an animated slideshow / cartoon based on the Star Wars Evasive Action webstrips - Specifically ‘Prey’.

*Why bother?
I’ve got a few projects on the backburner but they all require a fair bit of work, I was trying to think of something quick to throw together where most or all of the ingredients were already supplied. then i thought about the ‘lost’ red dwarf episode titled ‘identity within’ and the third main reason was a recent listen to the symphony for a saga 2.0 [tpm] which really got me thinking.

*Tech specs…
I’m planning to set it up in a 16:9 ratio and am predicting tat it will run for approx 30 minutes.

There will of course be music and sound effects however I am still undecided as to whether I will include actual vocal dialogue or stick with written dialogue.

For The most part the animation will be very basic as I’m trying to showcase the story and artwork - the odd zoom or pan here and there…I’ve got a few ideas to liven things up but i really don’t want to overdo it.

Oh, and I’ll be colourising it. I’ve been thinking about shading and highlighting, but as there is already a lot of shading in the images I’ll see how things look. I’m wondering whether to use rich deep colours or pale, almost washed out tones. I’ll probably need to reference colours, ie: characters light sabers and such so if anyone has useful info i’ appreciate it.

*This is a call…
For anyone who’d be interested in contributing vocally to the project. I’m not 100% sure whether i’ll go that route yet, just wanna keep my options open…

and of course i’m happy to hear from anyone [except lucasfilm ] about any aspect of the project

What do you guys thing?

More details to follow…

Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

Impressive. Most impressive.

It's hard to tell if the other guys are stealing ideas from here and impossible to prove anyway. I've noticed other ppl have made edits similar to ideas of my own but there's nothing i can do about it, even if it did bother me.

Infodroid, Do you have a straightforward method for stripping out the separate audio channels? I have a simple setup but it's pretty lengthy...

Another bloody edit of TPM (* unfinished project *)
Time
first of all, I like the idea but I think it depends on how things are handled...I mean at the point where anakin was in trouble didn't he just start mashing buttons and pulling triggers randomly? - which saved the day.

I do like Qui gon resting and trying to help out at that point during the fight - since the 3 of them are seperated, which pauses the fight anyway. I guess that's not quite stealing the thunder from Ben in ANH since he was doing it after he died.

Secondly I'm really tired...Let's see what everyone else thinks.

Thanks. I wasn't proposing Qui-Gonn sacrifices himself, but now that you mention it, it's certainly something to think about. As mentioned elsewhere, there may not be the footage to pull it off, because there simply isn't a held shot on Qui-Gonn as he gets killed in the same way that there is one of Obi-Wan.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the surprised look on his face...Doesn't he relax while waiting for the forcefields between him and Maul to deactivate?...Might be worth a look...

Idea: Preserving STAR TREK - a preservation project?
Time
I don't think i'd be willing to get involved in a project like this but I love the idea. There will be an audience for this stuff...

What was the computer game that had Christopher Plummer reprise his role as Chang? something to do with Klingons. I never played it or saw it in action but the trailer was great. I think David Warner might have been in it too. Klingon academy?...

Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *)

No.. I'm happy to got the 'kidnap Ben Burtt' option. Anyone know where he lives? - I guess tedious is the way to go...at least for now. Are you guys rebuilding the audio in 6 chanels or pretty much stereo? I'm not an audiophile, just wondering. Btw I forgot to commend how well you did with the Audio.

A trailer has only 1 purpose. To make people want to see the film and damn the expense.

The reborn trailer definitely delivers.

The episode 1 trailer/s only showed the very best of what it had to offer.

What are our methods in regards to preparing audio. are you processing to remove ambiance from dialogue? I'm also planning on rebuilding a lot of the soundtrack from scratch for edits i'm working on but haven't had a whole lot of experience yet.

If you guys are planning on a webdoc type release then I'd love to see some time devoted to this side of things.

One thing that annoyed me most with TPM was that almost every scene began with a conversation already in progress.

It doesn't take much to make lil Ani more interesting, just cut all the apologies.

Are you proposing Qui gon sacrifices himself in order to guide ani to save the day? that would be a fresh tie to the OT that actually makes sense rather than a backhand remark in the closing moments of the film. - Ala Yoda's muddied eplanation of force ghosts to obi wan.

I love yr idea of slimming down the climax of the movie and giving more focus to each, And wow - the idea of moving the gungan / droid battle to earlier in the film actually makes it seem interesting.

Re: Jar Jar - remember yr telling the story, so he doesn't have to be an exile at all if that means you have to work around it.

Re: yr Amida/ Padme issue. You could seriously consider not mentioning it. Back in the OT hardly anything was explained [within the films]. I know this is a hardly simple but what of keeping the padme / boss nass scene but reducing him to the sole gungan present? it would help since he's got his mug alover the big plan scenes later on. just throwing that out there.

I liked that Ani fought with greedo. I didn't like that the film was like "hey everybody, this is Greedo, okay?!".

And i think i prefer Maul being a bit of a suprise them rather than have been sitting around just waiting for thm to finally show up.

So I've been watching season 7 [again] and I feel there are a LOT of moments that are a little lame from trying to take the joke too far, There are also a few cases where you might successfully mute out the audience laughing that doesn't overlap dialogue. There are a fair few average scenes that may well be good if you can tighten them up a bit and trim the fat. We dont need to see Kryten dancing around after he's delivered a punchline to get the joke.

---

I still recommend dropping all the eps in a blender and combining the best bits into a fresh story. granted that wont be easy. In any case I'm willing to help out in whatever capacity I can - regardless of whether you take my suggestions on board.

---

The Good
Tikka To Ride // Ouroboros // Epideme // Nanarchy

---

The Bad

Stoke Me A Clipper
is just all round bad. it could have worked well if they'd done things differently, one one hand I like the 'Rimmer finds his own destiny' but loather the fact that there's a hole in the show without him that Kochanski comes nowhere close to filling.

Duct Soup
isn't really that bad I just don't like it - the whole season started gearing towards Krytens feelings over Lister and Kochanski. I prefer when the show was about
1 The last man alive
2 the wacky adventures the guy got into.
I got the sense that all they did all season was sit around in Starbugs kitchen...even tho they didnt. And DS amplifies that for me...It also feels like a bit of a rehash of much better episodes like 'marooned'

Beyond A Joke
Cringe worthy at best, what with 'Jane Austin world'. It could have been really good if it were all about Kryten 'blowing his stack' / the crew trying to save him / and the stuff with Able and the simulant. The whole AR thing really put me off a bit. And other episodes made hilarious use of the AR unit.

Blue
This episode could have been good, but again suffers from trying to be about Kryten vs Kochanski - rather than Lister Missing Rimmer. Maybe in trimmed down / edited fashion this could work and might allow for insertion of more 'flashback clips' using classic moments between Lister and Rimmer from earlier seasons.

---

How about something like this...

Teaser - Something compelling with a cliffhanger
Main titles - i suggest scrapping anything that refers to it as season 7 or shows shots that will be ommited. Maybe use some slow mo shots of starbug.
Act 1 Introduce the main characters
Act 2 the high point of the story.
Act 3 Resolution of course. make sure all the questions are asnwere. I hate when movies don't do this.

consider using a fresh name? I guess red dwarf works fine as the ship itself does feature towards the end.

The season 7 title music is too upbeat for a

Maybe have

fade in from black - Lister appears before JFK "I have a strange tale to tell"
opening titles - slow sprawling space sequence with slow / deep theme with title credits.
Lister and JFK discuss the assassination...
Titlecard '3 years earlier'
the assassination intro and the boys fro the drawf beam in to the book depository.

-obviously this omits the reason why they are there...maybe flashbacks? just tossing ideas out there...
-also keep in mind that the JFK plotline needs to be resolved early on because the JMC doesn't exist in the altered future...
- what about a paradox, where we only show the 'no curry' intro after the other stuff, only this time lister realises what to do rather than travel back in time. [teleport the curry as seen in the xtended ending] - that might make things counfusing tho.

I got it! slap an 'h' on her forehead

tikka to ride impressions...

- if yr considering doing a stand alone / theatrical style presentation then the intro is a LOT of info to take in. and not entirely necessary. and it only provides a minor laugh...also the remastered space shots still don't look too great. - the shots at the start i mean. some of the other space shots look nice. I'd drop the whole ship expanding / instability plotline.

- Re: the x-tended scene where lister explains how he worked it out and Rimmer tricks him into detaching the rear section. I'd suggest you use it at the very end of the story as a sort of resolution [providing it works with the other episodes] - Although IF you do make sure you DONT include any early shots of curry debris.

Davey, I don't mean to tell you how to do things but is there much point in introducing the time drive [in trimmed down fashion] if they don't really focus in it throughout the rest of the season? As an audience i'd be most interested in seeing something fresh, a new angle on things. I'd be happy if you chopped up scenes and sprinkled them all over the place as long as i can sit and watch it and be entertained without being confused. - And as ocp mentioned if you really work on the pacing alone you could improve things.

I think that maybe you should go thru and rate certain things according to how important you think they are to the overall story. If you can also inject anything from season 6 then that'd be great. Season 6 was the best season by far - and it actually flows pretty well if you st and watch all 6 eps in a row. I also really like the flashbacks ideas as has been mentioned.

I haven't actually picked up a copy of season 8 yet - it's sold out everywhere i look atm - bit I will go back and take a look at the other dvds.

As an audience i'd be most interested in seeing something fresh, a new angle on things.

what about a really grand theatrical style opening? I'd love that.

-FYI I have seen every episode of the show more times than i care to count. all except 'Krytie tv'. It's never been aired here in oz as far as i can tell

Look everyone agrees that season 7 is the worst but if you're planning on improving on it then i say go for it. I actually really like Tikka to ride, it kind of went pear shaped after that.

would you consider elements of other season / episodes if they work within the context of the story?

seem like they stared heading your way during season 8 with long multi episode storylines and such.

Jedi as ninja

Wow...Agreed.

That'd be a lot more interesting. I'm happy to watch the PT [shhh] but the Jedi of each trilogy don't really seem consistent. What happened tot the obiwan of "there are alternatives to fighting"? in the OT lightsabers were a bit of a treat but when you've got fights going on every 2 minutes ala rots it gets a little bland.
