Some general info for the Original Trilogy on CED (Capacitance Electronic Disc)…

This is a brilliant post oojason! Thanks for compiling everything into one place. 😃

To add, here’s a discussion of the Star Wars (ANH) CED releases from the excellent CED Magic site, which in turn links to a nice document from 1995 on the deleted scenes:

Here’s a technical discussion of the time compression that features a couple of OT alum:

Strange… especially as looking through this thread members on here have helped fellow members acquire this Edit - and also even pointing out it is available publicly on usenet. So not quite ‘unfindable’.

It seems you did not try PM’ing the thread creator / Editor to see what options there are on how to acquire this?

Nor did you read the Welcome to the OT.com; Introduce yourself in here thread - where a lot of useful info and helpful links are located.

Though you did fancy having a rant instead…

Indeed, with their only post they launched into a rant… 😮

And alienating the helpful members on here who would have likely provided you with assistance in finding this Edit… probably to the point your rant may have made them think twice about doing so.

As has already been stated, their attitude appears to be steeped in pure entitlement. Every single project on here has been undertaken by volunteers who’ve devoted their time, money and efforts to locate, preserve, restore and archive films and TV programmes in their best possible presentation. Often with painstaking commitment and all completely for free and that’s not even mentioning the technical advice that’s provided again for free - and has helped me on countless occasions with information and solutions.

It’s a community that I’m proud to be a member of and it bears no resemblance to their description. 😃

Idea: RoboCop - Theatrical Version Preservation - any interest?

Bumping this thread to let you all know that Arrow has announced their edition for RoboCop on Blu-ray (US and UK) which will include (in addition to the Unrated and TV cuts) the original theatrical version for the first time officially on Blu-ray!

Excellent news, thanks for sharing this information! 😃

According to the details tab…

Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1

^This means that the Criterion release still remains the best version for the OAR.

Info: TV shows on DVD edited either due to syndicated prints or music rights
Time

SpacemanDoug said:

Though the unique thing is sometimes the first DVD release had extra bits not seen in the TV versions of the episodes, but sadly they were omitted on the re-release due to them wanting to reflect the original BBC broadcast versions

That’s interesting and also disappointing that they didn’t include the extended episodes as alternate versions on the re-release. Doing so would have given fans the best of both worlds.

Info: Forces TV (UK tv channel) beginning Quantum Leap re-run tonight

I hadn’t seen that thread. Thanks for the heads up. 😃

…but a couple of syndicated episodes which we may be lucky enough to get broadcast unedited.
Could be wrong though, as I’m by no means knowledgeable on the series.

Yeah, I mentioned that in my original post. This I suspect might interest people the most. They’re airing a 16:9 version of the pilot - was the series shot with HDTV protection? If not then its been cropped and it might not be worth recording the episodes if they’re in the wrong aspect ratio. 😦

Just happened to look through the EPG and discovered that they’re airing the pilot tonight and it would appear, also the entire series over the coming weeks/months.

Given the information in this thread, the soundtrack has been restored for the Blu-ray releases but they lack some of the original movie length versions of the episodes. They’re included on the DVDs apparently but it might be worth capping them in case of soundtrack substitutions.

Let me know you think. If there’s enough interest, I’ll clear some space on my PVR and record the whole lot.
